News / Russian criticism of Poland - Soviet war memorial removal [325]

I don't have an issue with soviet war graves and statues of the fallen Russian soldier, if there was one on top of my hill I would tend it. In the same way the graves of the fallen are tended to at Casino.

I do have issues with any statue that glorifies the Soviets as some kind of saviors, especially officers that have subsequently been proved as war criminals.

I ask the question who tends the graves of my Family murdered in Siberia, is their any mark of their very existence left .

News / Russian criticism of Poland - Soviet war memorial removal [325]

Back in those days Britain had empire and all the wealth derived from it , the Russians had their vision of empire and Poland and its spoils would be part of that.

The Russian soldiers back in those days had the same vision, my father and Grandfather said the majority saw the war as a gateway to personal wealth, If you look further than the murder and theft in Poland look at Silesia where the rapped murdered and stole from the German civilians.

My Grandfather knew them well when he fought against them in the Bolshevik war in 1919, they gave no mercy, anyone who did not hold to their beliefs was to be put to the sword, just like Isis sound familiar.

Those who died far away from home had their pockets stuffed with stolen gold.

There were many cases in Silesia where Russian soldiers died after the war had ended, usually fighting over their ill gotten gains.

Yeah good riddance, at least the soviets will be able to visit the museum to remind them of how evil they once were, and while we are at it lets demolish the Palace of culture, another reminder of soviet oppression, If they moan about it we can gift them back the rubble.

Oh while I am at it we should also have an exhibition at the museum, remembering those who died in Siberia, Katyn, and those disappeared during Soviet occupation .

Oh If I have missed anything please chip in.

Better life in USA or Canada, Quality of life is better in the USA and Canada, If you are earning , but no good for sponging, for sponging the best place is the UK, because of the very generous benefits and healthcare system, second to non in my opinion.

News / Poland in the European Union. Polexit? [559]

"People in Chicago are having an internet petition on whether Poland, a country they don't live in, can be part of the EU?"

What a Joke if they cared about Poland they would return and apply for their citizenship and contribute to the rebuilding of this great country .

They need to stop dreaming and talking about the "Old country" and do something positive.

Life / Polish people are the most ignorant people in the world! [331]

"PF's Anglo-expats are posting less frequently.", I don't think it is just that, (but one or two longtime members are currently absent) , I believe there is now more of a spirit of mutual respect and restraint when it comes to personal abuse and ignorance, be it from Anglo or Pole.

I'm pretty sure that she would have thought that she had a wonderful child that she loved very much, I don't think the DNA test would have mattered to her , the fact that some your family survived Siberia (Like mine did) is the most important and valuable factor here,.

Feedback / Polish forums members - please stop being agressive and dishonest. What a waste of potential. [48]

Must say that before I moved to Poland I found the forum main topics useful, I still use it today to ask questions and usually get an quick answer.

Yes there are trolls here and some members spout of fa bit including me , the mods do a good job in general and quickly dump stuff that is off topic into the bin (Random chat) .

If you have questions or have something to discuss then feel free to post, I am sure the majority here will respond in a helpful way.

Life / Consumer Rights & Returns in Poland [22]

Another Castorama Saga,

A Brit neighbor of mine bought a table saw from casta drama, after a month of use the motor blew up, he asked me to tag along to the store with him in case there where any problems.

Of course there was a problem , He went to the service desk and complained In English as he can't/ won't speak Polish.

needless to say an argument ensued the store stating that they would have to return the saw to the supplier for repair that could take six weeks.

My friend (Who has lived in Poland for six years) argued that there should be an immediate replacement, he told them he had spent 30,000 zl at the store in the last few months (Which he had but forgot to put the receipts in his pocket when we left his house ).

Needless to say his hand went into his pockets and no receipts were to be found, the surrounding staff members proceeded to ridicule him (in Polish) between themselves and accuse him of lying he is 70 years old..

At which point I exploded in Polish , I demanded they get get the store manager, my wife came running over to see what all the noise and commotion was over,.

Eventually the manager turned up I explained that the staff were rude and accused the customer of lying, I asked them if they thought it ok to ridicule someone in Polish when he didn't speak polish, they were all red faced, I told them I would write a letter to the head office and proceeded to take note of their name badges.

Manager promptly filled out a note and my friend got his money back straight away, we went to the isles an bought a better model.

I never intended to send a letter (Not one for getting someone the sack over a moment of stupidity) but it did do the trick.

Life / Consumer Rights & Returns in Poland [22]

Back n the day when we first bought our place in Poland, I thought it would be a god idea to buy some of our electrical good in the local town.

So wife and I found a shop , we bought a washing macihne and a fridge freezer and a 5zl plug adapter, we didn't haggle on the price.

A few weeks later I tried to use the 5zl adaptor, it was no good one of the pins was loose, I took it back to the shop expecting to get a replacement.

No such luckk , he basically accused me of breaking it and said he would have to send it back to the manufacturer (China) and await their decision. what a knob I thought, I told him I would never buy anything off him again (I still remind him about the adapter when I see him shopping in town).

I have found the above is typical of customer services where I live, big sheds like media expert and castorama are a tad better.

I once returned some twisted floorboards to castorama, the guy promptly got out his tape measure to one of the boards which was still half straight, he said he could not replace the whole board and offered to chop it in half and return the value of the spoiled half. I told the idiot i needed a full board, this fell on death ears.

This is all part of the fun here. We find the good in Poland still outweighs the little hurdles you need to cross in daily life.

Life / Stereotypes about Polish people being stupid? [281]

Spade a spade,

found a link that explains the problem pretty well

npr.org/sections/codeswitch/2013/09/19/224183763/is-it-racist-to-call-a-spade-a-spade

looks like it would of been a problem at school in the 70's for me to say it links to malcom x and some books written at the time.

best advice is not to use it nowadays, I don't.

Just goes to show that you can be called out as a racists, or get accused of stereotyping when you dad no intent to do so.

I guess you have to keep up with changes in society so as not to offend, wife told me off for saying colored when refering to black and Asian people, It now should be black asian mixed race.

Trouble is that people used colored when i was a kid , and it kind of stuck , I had no intention of offending by using that term.

Is there a list that is kept up to date anywhere ,as to what is currently acceptable and not acceptable nowadays.

Calling polish people eastern Europeans is problem for for me as I don't see Poland as eastern European, it was always middle Europe, maybe it is due to Soviet occupation of Poland after WWII.

I get it Jon, but I guess if the same jokes / stereotypes were made about black people all hell would break loose.

So Are the Polish Jokes dying away in America In the same way that racists jokes are a no no today?

Archie Bunker. That does sound more plausible than some kind of mass conspiracy against the Poles, why would any Americans wish Poland any harm , the vast majority of Poles like the American people (Although not always the politics and vice versa I guess)

Law / Statistics of crime rates in Poland [42]

The below video should help answer the question, there are many other documentaries on the subject

youtube.com/watch?v=rcsG-u2GtZEP

To my knowledge Poland does not have any sharia law zones as yet, but if Poland is forced to take in migrants these zones will start popping up and crime rates will rise accordingly.
