Love / Polish girls and traditions (esp. between mother in laws and daughter in laws) [45]

Neharika, I think you should just stick to your own tradition and food. I'm Polish married to a German. When I first went to visit his parents they prepared some Polish dishes, had all kinds of pictures handy from their Polish vacations, and all kinds of Polish this and Polish that. I really appreciated the effort, but I couldn't help but feel like with all this gestures they are saying you are not one of us, we need to accomodate you. I would be so much happier if they did everything their normal ways. I would fell more like I'm being "let in". Just my perspective...

Life / What gifts to take? Presents customs in Poland. [173]

Womens' Day has a strong political point about equality and human rights.

I would say the opposite. If a group gets a holiday designated to them IMHO is a way of saying "You are not equal and historically you never were, but we love and cherish you nevertheless". Where is the white man's day, after all?

Especially in communism, the women were cornered into believing they have equal rights, but how many of them actually got to take key positions in the country? Also, it's not a secret, that womens' salaries were essentially lower than men's during that time.

History / Polish and other Slavic nobility in our time [71]

Serbian Princess Cathrine

She and her family had a reality show called I Married a Princess. I saw it once. One thing that has to be said; they are very attractive people.

Also, did you notice that noble people are always skinny? Must be the breeding, I guess.

Po polsku / W dupie - w Polsce lekarz zarabia mniej niz fryzjer? [32]

Marynka- hejzel to w mowie potocznej znaczy rozpiździaj, albo kompletny bajzel ;)

Food / Is brain-damaging vegan fad growing in Poland? [176]

What about the blood type diet? Does anyone believe in it? According to it I'm eating waaay too much meat.

"Eat Right 4 Your Type" - Blood Type Diet

The concept to "Eat Right For Your Type" - or "Blood Type Diet " - is based on research conducted by Peter D'Adamo, ND, who claims that people fare better (including with weight management), when tailoring their diet to their specific blood types.

Life / New born baby traditions in Poland [26]

When you go over and "meet" the baby for the first time, you should bring something small, like a toy or romper. What is not customary in Poland (at least where I come from) is to give gifts for the baby before the baby is born. It's supposed to bring bad luck or something.

Something for the mother is always nice.

Life / Rate Poland (Life Quality / Culture and People / Food): 1-10! [232]

Quality of life - Dependent on financial circumstances 4 to 10

Polish culture and people - There are still some hidden gems in PL, which is like going back in time, Generally people are very hospitable and very forth coming.7 to 10

Agree 100%

Food: some 6 points. It's very tasty but not very diverse.

Fuzzy, are you going to come up with some charts using this thread? It would be interesting to see :)

Life / The Art of Complaining by Polish people [47]

Complaining is just Polish version of small talk. British talk about the weather, Americans talk about how wonderful everything is, and Polish complain. :)

Love / Polish girls and contraceptives [68]

That was never my experience. However the contraceptives can slow down metabolism. This could be a down side for many women.

Love / Polish women are complicated. Why? [51]

Why are polish women complicated?
have no ambition and sit and watch TV or Top Modlee/Mam Talen..
and complain and expect a lot ..

Pls explain your selfs, all polish women on the forum.

Why do you expect Polish women to explain themselves for your own misfortune? You don't feel like watching another Top Model episode? Just get yourself a different girlfriend and stop this stupid generalizations.

Off-Topic / Simple Things One Guy Wants.. (Parody.) [23]

I want no kid in the world to go hungry.
I want genetic disorders to disappear.
I want the politicians to lie less.
I want the people to fake less.
I want to see my kids to feel empowered.
I wish all people would die when they are ready to and peacefully in their sleep and not prematurely and in pain.

Plus:
I want a faster metabolism.

History / POLES NOT KEEN ON REPRODUCING? WHY ARE THERE SO MANY GERMANS AND RUSSIANS? [67]

convex

It's not a bad thing. Smaller population means better use of resources...

If the age groups are balanced. What Europe is heading into is a huge amount of retired people and less and less workforce. That means the workers will be taxed more and more.

I actually read something recently (don't remember where) that it might take as little as 200-300 years for the European nations with low demographic growth to die out. I think the most endangered species were Italians and Germans.

Po polsku / DZIEŃ POLAKA? Dlaczego w Polsce nie ma pracy? [12]

Może na śniadanie powinien zjesc polski chleb z polskim masłem a na to szynka Sopcka i pomidor z Grójca zamiast tego niemieciego piwa. I zdrowszy by był.

USA, Canada / Your favorite USA kiełbasa? [37]

I had an aunt in Detrioit (she died last month) who used to say: 'Ja i kiełbasa to dwie sprzeczności.'

I hope she lived a long and healthy life.

USA, Canada / Your favorite USA kiełbasa? [37]

ow about the big American corporations that also produce something they call "kielbasa"?

I would not feed that crap to a dog.

I'm a Polish who doesn't like kiełbasa. Are there more?

Food / Taste of food in Poland vs other countries [188]

I think the different taste of meat might result in the fact that the animals are not fed as much corn as eg. in the States.

I live in the States and visit Poland once a year. I find that chicken does not smell as much like bleach (the supermarket chicken in America does). Pork also seems to taste better in Poland, but I generally do not like pork or beef that much.

Whatever beef I had in Poland was horrible. It's not a place to get a good steak.

I buy the chicken from the Amish and I have to say the difference in taste is tremendous.

Life / My experience in Poland 15 years ago as an American trying to live and work there. [167]

I agree with you except the part where we give Mexicans already here working visas.
1) they'd be rewarded for breaking the law,
2) after the 12 million or whatever the number is, 24 million more would arrive the next day.

I t will never cease to amaze me how Americans are just fine with illegal immigrants when 10 tiny Mexicans are doing the landscaping, and jet when they get to talk abut it on the forums they call them criminals and want all of them out.
