History / Tuchola in Poland - roots of Katyn? [220]

A very interesting article. I liked it very much.
It can see it says Russian personnel of the Imperial Russian Army, and Russian civilians was captured by Germany during World War I and left on Polish territory after the end of the war;

It also says that "Due to epidemics raging at the time" the Russian people died.
They were in camps... They were prisoners...
Being a prisoner is extremely difficult. Many people can just go on a fence and to get a shot in their back, because they wanted to escape. Prisoners have to listen to their superiors. In other case they could lose their life.

Being in place like this You have to be soo clever and strong to survive! It depends in most cases if You were born under a lucky star or not!

There is not a matter of other people who will allow You to live (in many cases of course). There was a war. Conditions were, like it usually happens, in those times, very very hard.

Surviving was a matter of a character and power inside you. When You body dies it may mean that Your soul does not want to live in Your body anymore.

It's not a matter of anybody's fault IMPO.
I feel sorry for all people who had to be in places like this one. They are all in my memory and my heart.
Their nationality in not important. They were all victims of the War.

Love / Polish women are complicated. Why? [51]

rt3d
I don't believe we don't have ambitions. We like to have them, really many of us do.
Today my ambition was except doing well at my work to visit my friend and to make our meeting nice, fascinating and interesting. Silly? Yes, maybe.

So many people I know want something more than just everyday work, having a family and duties. Ambitions are a matter of my mind. They are equal for me to dreams. I have many dreams and some ambitions. But I am an incorrect dreamer.

I want make one hundred of my plans to come true. A good goal, don't You think?
And then, after getting it, I want to dream more...

Off-Topic / Simple Things One Guy Wants.. (Parody.) [23]

I have three cats I feed who hang around my house.
It's enough. I hug them every time I see them.
One is a strange orange creature, two are black.
Which one should I choose?
I can't have them all!

Off-Topic / Simple Things One Guy Wants.. (Parody.) [23]

I wish I were younger.
I wish I were a student again.
I want to have my own happiness back (I'm closer with every day)
I want 100 other things.
But the thing I want the most now is a cat to hug.

Love / Polish women are complicated. Why? [51]

Do you want to say, rt3d that women from other countries don't watch TV?
Is watching TV shows originally Polish or what?
It's strange, that you don't notice Polish girls who have a high ambition to become a model and take part in the programme, but You see Polish women who watch the show.

I would change You thread on:
Why so many Polish women have high ambition to become a famous model, then You eventually could answer, "Because they have no ambition to become a student".

Yes, I heard the same info today.
How to convince foreign investors to trust Polish economy now?
I guess they are a bit too sceptical about the growth.

Life / What gifts to take? Presents customs in Poland. [167]

zetigrek
It is a custom and EVERY child gives flowers to his/her class tutor.Of course it is not a bribe or anything like that. Just a standard way of showing a respect for a profession of teacher.

I agree with the post. Sometimes one class gives bunch of flowers. Some younger students used to give sweet little gifts like a candle in a shape of a ladybird or a water lily for teachers they liked very much.

It happens more often to get one nosegay from a class than a flower form every student.
Tutor gets as a gift dinner-set or tea-set or something like it when his class finishes school.
What would I give to a male tutor?
I don't know
A bottle of Vodka?
;)

Po polsku / DZIEŃ POLAKA? Dlaczego w Polsce nie ma pracy? [12]

USA, Canada / Polack/American Polonia/Plastic Pole "culture" [568]

So is Polack Johnnys "negative"?

YYY, Brit Tom?
I don't catch, what do you mean?
Ok, sorry, I haven't read the thread carefully.
Your intentions are good but a title is a bit like a magnet.
I felt I even didn't want to read it.
That's all.
But, actually, as far as I'm trying to read it now, I see that the thread is not as bad as I thought at the beginning.

:)
Actually it's very good.
But I think that a title is very bad.

USA, Canada / Polack/American Polonia/Plastic Pole "culture" [568]

I wanted to say that a word "Polack" is negative and shouldn't be in a title as something what can cause direspectful attitude toward readers and writers who take part in the discussion at start.

Actually, it's as biased as a word "black" for them who have black skin.
Polish slang does not keep in its spoken language a word "Polaki".
It sounds bad.
JIMHO of course.
Literary translation would sound "Plastikowa kulturka Polaczków".

You can't name daughter after mother, that's the reason!

Why?
I know Zosia who is a mother of a little Zosia.
Kasia, a mother of Kasia.
:)
I think it sounds nice.

Those 2 are not original at all. Standard classic names, popular for years.

Sure, you're right. However not many little girls are called Kasia or Marta today.

If we were all patriots in the true meaning of the word, we would be mounting horses, dressed in hussar armour and riding towards Lwow, right? :)

Not exactly. But I like a vision of it.
:)
I am patriotic because I am proud of our past, I know a lot about it and I still want to think that I can change something for better.

Even if it is just a little something.

Polengsss
I must say that you either picked a bad sample of Poles or are not that bright.

Yes, but don't you think that not many people in Poland are not proud enough of our past?
especially in the contrary to English, american and so on...

PolengggsThe majority of British represent mentality of dopefiend opiate-adickts.

Well said.
Haven't you noticed that that British see great events of their history, mention them sometimes while speaking in public, whereas Polish if say anything about the past, it is not signed with a great feeling of passion or pride...

How to be patriotic in a country like our?

News / Polish in vitro treatment fully refundable - bonkers! [62]

delphiandomine
the Church simply cannot "let go" in Poland and allow the country to be a modern democracy

Politics and bishops -a wonderful team! Really!

"The birth of one child leads in each case to the death - at different stages of the medical procedure - of many other lives," the letter said.

I believe they are right.

delphiandomine
Because in this case, the church has directly interfered with the workings of a modern democratic state.

I don't agree with you.
The church gives directions and does not, in any case, force believers to anything.
A base of every religion is freedom.
And freedom is natural for Catholic religion as well.

I don't catch one thing when I visit PF.
Why so many people and so many aspects of threads are conneced with Church, Catholic bishops, priests, reformations, being retarded (because Polish are Catholic so therefore they are retarded...) and so on...

Why do you see Poland in this way?
Geeees...

Po polsku / Pomnik ku czci bolszewików? [26]

Sokrates

Being Pole equal to being stubborn? Being stubborn complicates life too much sometimes. Many Poles realise it I guess.

It's rather a matter of genes, parenting, not necessarily national trait IMO.

"-Cholera jasna." or: "-Do jasnej cholery!" are my favourite.
"Cholera mnie bierze" - "I can't stand it any longer"
"Kurza twarz" (hen's face) is nice too.
"Do diaska", "do diabła", and plenty others.

Life / Are Poles typically nasty people? [42]

Allison

The more time I spend in here, the more I value Seanus's :" some are, some aren't".
Simple and obvious.

Try to be silly - they will call you 17 and stupid.
Be smart and Polish - few British girls will talk with you if any.
Try to say sth wise- they will answer sth like "weird stuff".

It' a real society, not it's mirror.

Somebody will flirt with you, sb will ask you for a date, sb will want to discuss, somebody will call things you say trollish or b****, somebody will say, you "generalise", sb will envy you although he/she knows nothing about you, sb will not start to talk to you just because your nickname does not sound good for him/her.

Being in here you are a part of of society, you just have to accept and play with their rules.
If you say to them that they are nasty or neutral it will mean for them that you see them this way. You give a clear comunicate to them then.

Say them: you are great, I like you, I like to laugh...
They will accept you... or hate you.
:)
In other cases you can become an outsider.
Speak you mind - that is all what I wanted to say actually.

Po polsku / Pomnik ku czci bolszewików? [26]

A artysta to pojęcie względne.
