Food / Today's Polish Sunday dinner? [30]

The dinner in posts 6/7/8 was a little joke.

Now a true Polish dinner.

Except it wasn`t Sunday, but Saturday. Never mind, all the same.

The main dish is Polish fave fried pork chop - kotlet schabowy.

What is this liquid in photo 2 and what is this stuff scooped onto potatoes in photo 4?

Law / Buying from Allegro.pl with Money Protection? [10]

Allegro Pay

Allegro Pay estimates your credit history first before they allocate funds to your credit account. If your history is good, you can hope for a bigger credit. If you are a novice member, I doubt they will allow you to buy stuff for 50.000 PLN.

Yes, I knew I can always depend on you. :):):):) Excellent.

Chickory roots which I dug out from the field in winter time are put into soil in pots/buckets and stored in the cellar. After two weeks you can harvest excellent Belgian endive.

The first photo shows the timber wood burner used for heating. What does the other photo show?

Study / Various education and school issues in Poland. Opinions, stories, controversies. [1006]

At the Polish language final exam in the eighth grade, students of primary school, aged 15,

Are also expected to deal with grammar and punctuation issues. Utter madness coz 99.9% adult Poles wouldn`t be able to correctly answer such crazy questions.

Exercise 18
The table contains information about the functions of the punctuation marks used in the text Three chestnuts. Choose the information that is true - mark T in the correct place.

1. Quotation marks in the words "Alpha" and "rescuer" have the same function.
2. An ellipsis is used in the last sentence of the text because it precedes words surprising and unexpected in the context of the previous statement.

3. In the utterance "However, with some evasive, perfunctory answer, she cooled down his zeal." a comma separates the clauses.

Exercise 17

The table contains information on the word formation of words. Select this information which is false - mark F in the appropriate place.
1. In the derivative words "papers" and "card" there are performing formants the same function.
2. The word "rescuer" was created from the word "rescue".
3. The word "hug" has a null formant.

This forum has native Poles living in Poland and Polish expats who moved abroad. As well as pure Americans living in the USA who have Polish connections like wives etc and Brits born in Polish immigrant families in the UK. And other nationalities interested in Polish issues, e.g, Germans.

The proverbial melting pot.
Why???

What does a plot of land cost on the outside of a city in Poland?

Unfortunately, it is impossible to provide good info coz regions and cities in Poland differ enormously. You should specify where exactly in Poland you would like to settle. Probably in northern Poland, close to the seaside??

History / The great mistakes of Poland's history? [216]

An additional burden on Russian Poles (peasants) was compulsive service in the Imperial Army.

Not only peasants. The plan for the impressment into the Russian army of young gentry and intelligentsia from patriotic families was the direct cause of the outbreak of the January Uprising 1863.

I had assumed Poland was somehow more enlightened/evolved

In all cases except the treatment of peasants by Polish szlachta which was horrendous and for which they paid dearly later on.

The greatest mistake in Polish history has been trying to colonize Ukraine.

:):):) Funny you are mentioning Ukraine to suit your current propaganda agenda needs about Russ-Ukrainian war.
It wasn`t only Ukraine, also today`s Lithuania and Belarus were subject to Polish expansion in the East. Poland proper allied with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in 15th century, gradually polonised the Lithuanian elites and defended the Duchy against Moscovians and Tatars. In result, Poles started associating the Duchy`s territory with Poland.

The Duchy encompassed a gigantic area in Eastern Europe.

are expected to write a composition,

Apart from a long composition, they are also expected to write shorter argumentative opinions or interpretations.

E.g,
Can every celebrity be called a famous person? Justify your answer. In the argumentation, refer to the texts of Leszek Kołakowski and Mirosław Pęczak. Do not quote wording from the spreadsheet.

The answer:

Not every celebrity can be called a famous person, because according to Leszek Kołakowski, to be famous you have to do something great, not just gain mass popularity. Mass popularity results mostly from frequent appearances on television, as Mirosław Pęczak claims in his text..

News / Unfulfilled promises by PiS [559]

most of the foundations which got donations are related to PiS

More scandalous facts about PiS gangsters donating each other public money leak every day:

e.g,,
In an interview, Lubnauer assessed that "fourteen projects are directed to the Lubelskie Voivodeship, i.e. the home region of the Minister" Czarnek. - I would like to point out that only 5.5 percent of all Polish residents live in the Lubelskie Voivodeship, but they received practically thirty percent of the funding - she noted.

- Out of fourteen of these projects that go to the Lubelskie Voivodeship, ten have had a negative assessment of the advisory team. Ten out of fourteen, she noted. - There is a Volunteer Fire Brigade in Jakubowice Konińskie, where the headmaster of the school is his brother-in-law or brother. There is also the Sokół Gymnastics Society in Lublin, which received five hundred thousand - she described.

Lubnauer was further asked if she believed a crime had been committed in the grant case.

- If we believed with Ms. Szumilas that it was legal, we would not have submitted an application to the prosecutor's office. The notification to the prosecutor's office has already been submitted, because not all institutions, in our opinion, meet the competition criteria. So, firstly, co-financing was granted to those institutions that do not meet the competition criteria, and secondly, we are dealing with a situation in which, in the opinions of experts, it is written quite clearly that some spending of money can be considered inconsistent with the principle of rationality of spending public funds, she replied.

The MP pointed out that "if any property comes from a crime, i.e. it is considered that a crime has occurred, then there is an extended confiscation and it will be possible to recover these properties."

History / The great mistakes of Poland's history? [216]

It was rather a Polish peasant who didn't care in which country he has to live.

Complete bollox. :):) How could a peasant care if the chief enemy to him and his family was not a Russian or Austrian occupier but the Polish landlord who owned the village with all peasants in in and could trade them like cattle to another landlord? Peasants, treated as cattle and semislaves, had to work hard 6 days a week for free in their owners` field. They didn`t have time and energy to care about any country. When the Russian tsar abolished serfdom and liberated Polish peasants at last, they founded and built monuments to him.

E.g,
pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomnik_Aleksandra_II_w_Cz%C4%99stochowie

Monument to Alexander II in Częstochowa - the monument to "Tsar-Liberator" Alexander II Romanov in Częstochowa , which was erected in 1889 at Jasna Góra in the vicinity of the Jasna Góra monastery complex on the initiative of the head of the Częstochowa district, Michał Konesynow [2] .

The construction of the monument was financed by voluntary contributions from peasants , who appreciated the importance of enfranchising peasants in the Kingdom of Poland , which was carried out in 1864 under the tsar's decree [3] . In 1917 the sculpture was removed.

I can agree that gentry`s oppression of peasants for so many centuries was one of the biggest mistakes in Polish history.
That is why I wrote:

Polish gentry and aristocracy gained a superb position over the king and other social classes

Study / Various education and school issues in Poland. Opinions, stories, controversies. [1006]

At the Polish language final exam in the eighth grade, students of primary school,

are expected to properly interpret a poem.

A few years ago examiners used a poem Road not Taken by Robert Frost, translated by Stanisław Barańczak.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

mayonaise ... (heresy I know....)

Heresies are welcome in accordance with individual preferences. E.g, I use powdered ginger and curry coz I like their flavour.

What can we see here?

I forgot to list buns or white bread. Normally I eat brown bread but it is too savoury and overshadows the taste of tatar so I turn to white one.

Disgusting.

Now I can reveal it : I use the tatar dish to distinguish between tough people and sissies. hahaha

The beginning: (hey, hunters, don`t haunt me for eating this piece of meat, it wasn`t me who killed the supplier of it)
