History / Why are Poles/Poland disliked by Germans? [140]

only as long as Poland is the largest net beneficiary of EU funds

Besides, you have a very low opinion of the Polish people as those who are only able to take but not give. If we become an affluent country one day, why shouldn't we be helping those member states who are less affluent once we had received help from more affuent countries than us when we were in need?

Or - as Marian Paździoch of the sitcom "Świat według Kipskich" used to say about their attitude toward the European Union - "panie Ferdku, trzeba doić tę krowę póki jeszcze ryczy i mleko daje!" ?

But the fact is a fact. Who knows what the future will bring? Do you have a crystal ball which tells you the future? I do not, unfortunately...

Are you up for an unelected EU bureaucrats

Are you up for mandatory taking in of a violent, permanently

Are you up for giving up your country's Christian values

But the poll that you didn't want to comment about did reveal the fact that 84% of the Poles questioned in that poll were in favour of Poland's membership in the European Union. I understand that the poll's results are in sharp contrast to the theses of your anti-EU propaganda, but then, what can I do about it?

I said that Polish support for the EU is not unconditional.

The poll conducted by the Hungarian Nezoepont in October 2017 as reported by the Polish "Dziennik Gazeta Prawna" says that the most pro-European nations (supporting the membership of their country in the EU) are the Austrians (86%) and the second most are the Polish (84%). The poll was conducted in the EU countries of Eastern and Central Europe (including Germany and Austria) plus Serbia.

Spośród przebadanych państw najbardziej popierają członkostwo w UE Austriacy (86 proc.) i Polacy (84 proc). In Serbia 61% said 'yes' to an EU membership.

polacy-wola-wyjsc-z-unii-niz-przyjac-uchodzcow

This is a poll in which a certain condition for leaving was put forward. If you asked about "leaving the EU rather than adopting the euro". you would get yet another result, possibly much less than 50%; if you asked about "leave the EU rather than giving Wrocław and Szczecin back to the Germans", you would get another result, possibly close to 100%.

So the poll was about testing the possible level of sacrifice on the part of Poles in taking mandatory quotas of 'refugees' rather than about the real issue of leaving the EU by Poland.

These type of polls are specific. They do not necessarily say that the remaining two-thirds dislike Polish people. Most likely they say that the remaining two-thirds are neutral or simply don't care.

and most Poles wants to leave the EU.

Spike reported in another thread about fat, sauerkraut smelling german tourists in Danzig

Both seem to be personal opinions of Spike rather than views shared by the majority of Poles in Poland. One should also notice that 'sauerkraut' (kiszona kapusta) is very popular here in Poland, so chances of meeting sauerkraut smelling Polish tourists in Berlin or Hamburg are pretty high ...

Life / Murder / Homocide rates in Poland [18]

kill someone by accident when you were only trying to beat him up

That's indeed possible, How would you qualify, for example, the recent murder of the mayor of Gdańsk.who was stabbed, but survived the attack for a time-being and died only later in hospital?

Manslaughter could be unintentionally running over a pedestrian while speeding.

That would be a fatal road accident and would not go into the statistics of unintentional homicide.

Life / Murder / Homocide rates in Poland [18]

Still, it's almost twice as many as you've given. To say that it is low, you have to compare the rates rather than numbers

What's the difference between 'intentional' and 'unintentional' homicide? Homicide is always intentional, I think. Unintended killing would be called 'manslaughter', I think.

Could you post a link to your source?

Life / Murder / Homocide rates in Poland [18]

Wikipedia map of homocide rates and see that Poland has one of the lowest rates

The number of homicides has risen to 519 in the year 2017, an increase of 50 in relation to the previous rate - acording to the Rzeczpospolita daily. So according to your data, the number in 2016 was 256, but according to my source, the number was 469.

A big difference! Here are numbers for the years (liczba zabójstw w Polsce; source: Komenda Główna Policji):
2014 - 532
2015 - 502
2016 - 469
2017 - 519

News / Pawel Adamowicz, Gdansk mayor, dies after stabbing [354]

Adamowicz was collecting money to help poor in front of cameras

I think the collection was aimed at raising money for purchasing specialized medical equipment for paediatric wards (and neo-natal care specifically) in Polish hospitals. The data says that the state has provided money for roughly half of such equipment in such wards over the years, the other half has been delivered thanks to the actions of Jerzy Owsiak and his WOŚP.

I'm pretty sure it was the court system

Yes, the article says that the guy notoriously did not pay rent and the subsequent court ruling was that he should be evicted from his flat.

PiS agrees to be as nasty as possible to the cause of helping sick children

Yes, this is very strange and reveals the sort of 'I-live-deep-in-the-country-and-don't-want-to-hear-of-Mr-Owsiak' complex. It is much more a psychological than political thing.

Genealogy / Birth in Lviv in 1926: Polish or Ukrainian nationality? [29]

If a baby was born around 1916 in the town of Lvov (Lwow) would the birth certificate be from Polish records?

This is an interesting question. As a rule records should be kept in the place where they were created, so the place where you should search is today's town of Lviv (Ukraine).

I have no idea under whose control Lvov (Lemberg) was in 1916; the Polish state did not exist at the time, so a possible answer is it was under Austrian control or under the tsarist Russia's control as at one time during the WW1 the Russian army advanced deep into the Austrian territory of Eastern Galicia and occupied Lvov.

News / Poland's News sources [59]

The government-controlled media have become useless as a source of information in Poland today. The PiS party propaganda which prevails there reminds of Bolshevik propaganda in the times of the October Revolution in Russia and shortly afterwards. But true, the Stalinist propaganda that followed was much much worse.

Off-Topic / Russophiles can no longer defend their beloved Russians. [84]

To all the if you like Putin why don't you move to Russia idiots: many admired Mother Teresa. Few wanted to move to Calcutta.

You should move to Russia first and to Calcutta next. In any case, you should keep out of Poland and the US for the benefit of both.

Off-Topic / Russophiles can no longer defend their beloved Russians. [84]

the number of USians immigrating to Russia wanting to live under Putin's system is quite limited, isn't it?

Their number is null, I should think (except perhaps for Edward Snowden). Notice how quickly the alleged R. Mazur decided to leave Poland in the 1970s (or at least he says so), the Poland which was under the Russian domination being some sort of prolongation of the tsarist regime. BB, you do remember the DDR times as well as I do the times of the PRL, don't you? Thus we can tell something about the Russian domination in Eastern and Central Europe.

And yes, the tsarist regime was indeed much more civilized than the Bolshevik regime. The Putin's regime is also more civilized than the Stalin's or the Brezhnevs' one. Yet, it is definitely far from being as good as to expect herds of Americans arriving in Russia to avoid any American Obongos. It is so much better to sit comfortably on a setee in Chicago and safely praise Putin from there than to transplant oneself to Moscow or Volgograd, so as to enjoy all the benefits of the Putin's system in Russia itself.
