Life / Do you collect mushrooms in your country? Poles in Poland do. [94]

the wild blueberries here aren't the same as the ones in PL tho.. they are white on the inside not like the ones in PL that are actually blue on the outside and inside as well. i've picked bunches of wild ones in MN and MI and they are about to start coming in here at the end of July and early August. Both states have a lot of them.

the main mushroom picked in the states is the morel.

there are others here too but just not picked that much.. a friend of mine used to go to northern OH and maybe WI to pick boletes (borowik). i have also seen chanterelles (kurki) here in the states but they are pretty rare.

Life / Can someone tell me about the reason behind being gay in Poland being wrong [148]

It stems from Catholicism

yes, mainly

Still, if gays wanna do it behind closed doors, it's not my business to interfere.

what about when they flaunt their "happiness" in a parade or something?

It was quite amusing to see women flirt with them. I can't imagine what runs through their minds when they start getting turned on by a handsome gay guy.

some play for both teams, if you will

Real Estate / Documents requested from foreigners to rent a flat long term in Poland? Invoicing / Contract. [16]

But it's absolutely unheard of

it can't be.. or why would it be so..

What are the documents requested from foreigners to rent a flat long term?

depends.. ask prospective landlords

It's not a bad idea to also ask if the owner has permission from the administration to rent the flat

talk about unusual and most likely a fat chance of getting such info from a prospective landlord.. hmm.. i know, that i would rather frown upon such request and most likely wouldn't oblige.. but you are right, not a bad idea at all.

Work / Mechanical engineer born in Poland, grew up the States. Go back to PL. How? [29]

trust me, im fluent.

not really

now, find the thread about job searches in here somewhere.. i posted a bunch of good links to where i was looking for engineering field jobs..

but trust me, unless you really are fluent it's going to be hard finding something with a polish concern.. and engineering jobs in PL are realy few and far between.. also, they don't pay nearly what they pay in the states, if you're licensed that is..

also read up on life in PL, it's not as peachy as it may seem but go and try to experience it on your own.. going to PL to find a job is much better then just surfing the net for one..

good luck

History / Let's talk about the POLISH ARMY [79]

have the might to overcome a group of frail, old men with old weapons?

lol.. old and frail? and no, they don't have the might.. check out the terrain they have to take taliban on..

why can't the Taliban do it in their own country?

because all of afghannistan is not their country..

At least they don't meddle in many other countries like the CIA does.

no, they just fly planes into building and blow up embassies etc.

Do you think they would have beheaded Stanczak had the Polish army not been in Afghanistan?

yes

we are fed bogus stats to make us believe we are winning.

what do they feed you there in PL because i don't see anything about winning anywhere?

This is America's 'problem, not 'war'. They started it to steal oil.

wtf? what oil?

afghani people?

do you even have a clue why USA is there?

Illegal invasion/occupation.

afghanistan? you are clueless, aren't you?

Law / Foreign retirees taxed in Poland? [25]

they were very good incentives like that for expats to return.. i know a couple that took the deal as it was hard to pass up for anyone considering returning.. they didn't have to pay any taxes on their moneys or income.. they may now though.. not sure..

unproductive, maybe but they have money and they would be spending it in PL so a win for PL economy..

I was informed by Treasury Ministry (Wydzial Skarbu Panstwa) representative that any SS from USA, pensions, Roth, etc. once transfered to Poland as such are treaded as any other kind of income,

i think that's correct.. and as others said, you'd only pay over what you already paid in the us.. you should be able to get credit for paying US taxes..

Just out of curiosity, why isn't it taxed on the Polish side as income? Polish authorities not being interested in taxing the income of a resident is bizarre :)

because i am pretty sure that it's incorrect.. PL is less tax friendly then US.. but they may have limits for pensioners where under certain amounts one doesn't have to pay, especially if the income is from abroad..

It is the text of the convention between the US and Poland which is decisive in the case discussed.

yes but a person in PL would just have to pay the difference, like i said above.. one would get credit for US taxes.. that's not double taxation..

the US and Poland have a Totalization Treaty in place, which is very good news. I think that your current contributions to your Polish pension can be used to bolster your SS

the way i understood this is that it works in the opposite direction.. where the polish pension is bolstered by your SS from US.. basically they'd count your working years in USA and in PL together..

Law / Foreign retirees taxed in Poland? [25]

The IRS does not differentiate between citizens and resident aliens.

that's strange.. hmm... i am thinking once outside the states a green card holder doesn't ever have to own up to it.

Law / Foreign retirees taxed in Poland? [25]

resident aliens (green card holders) are taxed on their worldwide income regardless of residence.

no.. but yes to citizens

A dual Polish citizen living in the US has no tax obligation to Polish earned income.

if they are an american then they surely do otherwise you are contradicting your statement from above.. regardless, and american has obligation to US on PL income.

The Polish taxes can be used as a "foreign tax credit" on your 1040 and you will probably end up paying no US income tax.

yes that is true

The double taxation treaty concerns personal income, doesn't matter how it's earned.

retirement income is always treated as earned income.

Food / Smalec - how to make it? [53]

You couldn't have farther missed my point had you been firing a slingshot at mars.

you seem to have missed the fact that i wasn't even arguing about your "death" talk but about the part that smalec is "healthier" then the things i bolded.. which of course is just rubbish.. pure fat will never be healthier, no matter what amount then those things..

Food / Smalec - how to make it? [53]

I did the nutritional charts to prove it.

that's a "factory" made smalec and i bet it's nothign like the real thing.. home made stuff has to have at least as much fat as butter.. it's all fat too

Smalec is no more or less "healthy" than milk, cheese, chicken skin, chickenfat (another "schmaltz") or yogurt.

what? smalec is pure fat while the things i highlighted have hardly any fat in them... hmmm

USA, Canada / To move back to Poland from the USA or not to move back....that is the question [119]

1500 USD

after US taxes that's probably closer to 1000 if he has any other income..

Country of your choice has nothing to do with that...

maybe but I think Poles are less accepting, in general, so choosing PL is definitely a hard place and i think harder then most of other EU countries.

USA, Canada / To move back to Poland from the USA or not to move back....that is the question [119]

Would I be taxed ?

by US government, yes.

I am the first generation to be born in the USA so I hope that I would be excepted by the Polish people and regarded as a person with a "true" Polish heart and soul.

by the looks of things here, i highly doubt it.., i am polish and born in PL but otherwise in similar situation and i am constantly attacked by my arsehole brethren as not being polish..

First just come here and see if you like it before making a big move. Common sense.

yup and as you said PL is not how you imagine it.. it's much harder life then what you are used to in the US.. much more expensive, much less room.. there many differences..

Secondly Polish people WILL NOT consider you Polish or having a pure Polish heart or whatever imo...

see? and even if you become PL citizen it still would be a stretch for most that you're actually Polish..

but it's net income

that is before taxes, i am sure..
