Genealogy / Typical Polish Eye Color [77]

my husband and his fathers side all have green eyes. They probably came over from Russia a long time ago.
There is an interesting eye colour in Poland- it is like a brownish amber colour- really striking. I have never seen it until I moved here.

Life / Things that annoy you in Poland. [114]

lets see.
dog ****
homeless dogs that nobody gives a rats about.
stray dogs that people simple ignore.
dogs that are kept in small out door cages.

locals that drink at the bus stops
garbage littering the streets and forests and the beaches up north
lack of recycling when it is a huge money maker
nouveau riche that think because they have money they have more rights
older women that offer an opinion on absolutely everything because they know better
traffic on all the roads all the time
state of the roads
the fact that infrastructure is the last thing built and the gmina doesn't seem to make the builders responsible for it.

that is just a start.

there are loads of things that annoy me about Canada too- but they don't prevent the enjoyment of daily life.

UK, Ireland / Can anyone recommend private transport/courier for deliveries from UK to Poland? [25]

yikes! I can't give you a specific answer with regards to weight or frequency but the items are too large for a car or suv. I don't need a container or a whole truck but I am hoping to find some space with a driver that does this route often so maybe he (assuming he) has some extra space for a smaller load in combination with something else. As for frequency- still can't give you an answer, unfortunately! Depends how well it sells in the UK- then it would become a regular thing.

Life / Why is circumcision not practiced in Poland? [701]

Actually most of the countries where circumcision is routinely or mostly practiced are not Jewish at all -- Canada =about 50%,

your words are not accurate. Perhaps 50% of Canadians are still doing this but of these 50% how many are Jewish or Muslim? I can tell you that the non Jewish and Muslim population is discontinuing the procedure. I have five friends that are nurses in Ontario and BC- this has been the trend for about 10 years.

Life / Why is circumcision not practiced in Poland? [701]

and the list goes on and on--however it is not medically necessary to circumcise -it is something done based on biblical times when hygiene was sub par.

Life / Why is circumcision not practiced in Poland? [701]

the thing about your sources is that those hospitals and "respectable doctors" will say whatever the company who is footing the bill and sponsoring- wants them to say.

How about Canada? It is now only done on request so more people are opting not to have it done. Those that are still doing it- do it for religious reasons. It is not necessary.

Life / Why is circumcision not practiced in Poland? [701]

there is no need for circum. In fact, in Canada it is not standard practice but done on request. There truly is no need for it. Just because some things have been done in our history- doesn't make them right.

All men are able to clean themselves properly- if there is an infection, typically it is because of poor hygene.

Study / Elementary Schools in Krakow. Foreign children acceptance. [17]

You will be fine- don't listen to that tool- seriously, no Polish people live outside of Poland- none in the U.K. at all. Loads of people in Krakow speak English, perhaps even a teacher. But definitely go for a private preschool- better quality than the public ones. They are also run as a business so you get what you pay for.

Love / Do Polish Women age well? [153]

I disagree. I think the factors you mentioned contribute but I also think smoking, sunbathing, botox and a general "worry about it when it happens" attitude is what ages women.

Life / Moving to Poland Part-Time (probably Katowice) [56]

mysiadlo is not lovely. it is a hole in the south end of Warsaw. Katowice for the most part is also an industrial hole.

your post is kind of vague. Depends what kind of work you do and where you need to be. Warsaw probably has the most business opportunities for foreigners- but it is not a hard and fast rule.

kind of like pulling a rabbit out of a hat, no?

Life / Television in Poland - embarrassingly bad? [44]

Canadian tv is so bad

some is and some isn't. Davinci's Inquest was amazing. Rick Mercer, this hour has 22 minutes, road to avonlea, corner gas, 18 to life and a few others are really good. There are also a lot of HGTV shows that are Canadian that get world wide exposure.

Population numbers and geography dictate, unfortunately. as for "little mosque on the prairie" I have never seen it so I can't really comment on its quality, however, I do think it is a good idea to include all ethnicities in Canada- and perhaps expose some of the American mythes regarding muslims.

Life / Jerzy Kosinski - Polish author and liar [127]

there is no proof. accusations have been flying for years and nobody will ever be able to prove otherwise.
what is your point.

Life / Television in Poland - embarrassingly bad? [44]

The worst for me is listening to a Polish commentator call a hockey game- that is so bad.

Not all t.v is bad. I have a few shows that I watch but I only watch on my computer. I just got in to Downton Abbey- that is good. Then of course, all reality tv can eff off now.

Life / Television in Poland - embarrassingly bad? [44]

it is horrible. I don't/can't watch it- it is too painful. The only show I do watch is X factor and that is with my kids- we like this one--but it is still pretty bad.

History / Terrible past for the Jews in Poland? [930]

I think you are quite wrong. And it is not a simple answer. I also think that being bombarded with media bias doesn't help the situation. Of course there are those that dislike Jews- it is not a Polish phenom.

Travel / Why does everyone seem to hate LOT Polish Airlines? [380]

no I am not complaining about a line up- I have flown enough times that I know what the process is. What I am complaining about is the complete and utter cluster fu*k that is the line up whenever I have taken a transcontinental Lot flight. However, this is much to be expected considering the majority are Poland B. If you have ever taken any of these flights you will know exactly what I am talking about. I don't need to defend my opinion because anybody who has ever taken the Lot flight from Warsaw to Toronto knows exactly what I am talking about.

Food / Comparison of supermarkets in Poland. Which one is the cheapest? [30]

I don't shop at Biedronka or Lidl because they don't have the selection and I find their products are inferior. So far the cheapest I have found in Warsaw is Auchan- but I hate going there- it is always a clusterf*ck of people who don't know how to push a shopping cart and feel as thought the fruits/veg and bread sections are part of an all you can eat buffet.

Tesco is pretty cheap. They have a good selection and offer many items from the U.K. that other supermarkets don't have.

In Poland the majority of native fruits veg and meats are organic by the nature of their rearing. There is no gmo here so you can be sure that these products are safe. I would rather eat Polish meats over something that is organic but comes from a different country.

There are loads of organic shops popping up but you will find many of these products come from Germany or other E.U. countries
