Love / Relationship Issues with my polish girlfriend advice needed [76]

To me it all sounds straightforward if very painful to you.

You had a kid when she was very young and before you two had the chance to decide whether you actually want to go that way. As you did you went straight to family like.

Now the kid is getting bigger and she has time to think. She is still young. She is doing work and school, meeting new people, having a view of a different life and sees that she is not happy with what she has.

Of course there is the option that she is cheating or using you but it seems to me that your life together burned out. Considering her age when it started, her age now, kids age and how long the relationship lasted it is my bet that she just want to end it. I'm really sorry for you but I don'tthink there is anything you can do. Focus on yourself and the kid.

it would be a very odd way of waking him up to anything

That he should try harder, or be more of a partner, or pay attention to her...There is plenty to choose from. Not saying that it's necessarily a case here.

29 years old with a nine-year old son is not going to make her prize dating material

After 10 years of relationshipshe may as well not want to go to dating.

She either has someone else already or is pretty sure she can tie a particular guy down once she's free of you

I know quite a few that did just that. My niece couldn't be happier after she finished her relationship.

Make it clear you're not going to let her put your son in danger.

And how is he going to do that?

While I agree new guy is a danger you can't reasonably stop her from forming new relationship.

If it's true that she just has enough of the relationship then neither fighting for it nor being 'tough' will not work.

If it's her way of trying to wake him up to something then that will kill it off.

OP- you sound decent so I'm sorry about your relationship. The only thing that will work is talking with her.

I've known a few Poles there who really dislike salted butter.

Buy unsalted one :) I just don't see a point. If I want butter with salt I can sprinkle it on top. Thankfully all the supermarket sell unsalted versions now.

Kapusta kiszona belongs in the bin,

Suròwka from kapusta kiszona is to die for with fried fish!

At home we sometimes had halibut at Christmas.

Question I have here : does Atch mean fish on Christmas day or Christmas Eve?

The huge distances between places.

Cam you explain a bit more?

I know- national speed limit when it's obvious driving more than 40 will end with head on collision

Nice Earl Grey with lemon for a round year

Of course but in autumn/winter it gets elevated to another level!

In fact everything laundry related except ironing!

I think I hate folding the most and sorting. Ironing with a nice music or nice show and I can crack on. And it makes me feel like an adult :)

They're called a letter box

I know but I wanted to make sure to distinguish them from actual boxes.

I hate that they let cold air in. Especially if someone doesn't push things all the way through, that your mail lands on the floor of your main entrance and makes it hard to come in and I hate that strangers can throw stuff into your house just like that.

It is dangerous in the kitchen if you touch a socket with wet hands.

And yet it is permitted. So obviously it was decided that the risk is worth it.

But hey ho, my little annoyance with it will stay just that. It's not like it's going to change just because I hate it.

I have new thing: letter slots in door. I don't want to think how annoyed post people are with those new door with letter slots at the bottom....

On a Ring Main system, you really would not want to have a normal socket in your bathroom.

It's too dangerous, ok. Then why it's not that dangerous in the kitchen?

I know Standing Order but the amount has to be the same, obviously and still there is a date set and it just leaves your account.

Good side of DD is that you can recall it. Not the case with transfer.

You'd feel far more annoyed if you got an electric shock

Life is about calculating risk.
I'm prepared to live with that risk. Especially since I already live with electrical sockets in kitchen where I have plenty of water or outside sockets.

standing orders or simple bank transfers.

Standing order is basically the same thing from my points of view. Where I can I pay by transfer e.g. water.

use a rechargeable electric toothbrush!

I do and it's charching in the bedroom. Annoying.

A simple and sensible safety precaution.

First you have to set up the recipient, then you have o make the transfer and then remove it again so it doesn't clutter your bank account. Pain in the bottom.

what is the matter with you

That I'm not too fond of Dirwct debit? Wasn't clear enough?

Paying everything by direct debit. Makes me have less control over my money.

Connected to that but possibly just my account set up- having to set up a receipient before transferring money.

Premier [quote=Luke1410]Premier Tusk would act a bit more responsibly, given the critical time.

In my opinion it's very responsible to take care of basic democratic systems.

would give me heart seeing that Ukraine's main ally is divided

There is no divisionwhen it comes to support for Ukraine so why would you rejoice?

I must say I thing this antagonism : this march OR march for Ukraine baffling.

If the march was pro Russian or against a war in let's say Sudan that would make sense. But here?

Is Poland really supposedto act as there are no other issues?

Poles are marching through the streets completely oblivious.

Wtf? You know that being against PiS and being against war in Ukraine does not exclude each other?

Should Poland have no other political matters beside the war? That would be stupid, short-sighted and suicidal

used to in PL is the number of sockets that are hanging off the wall, not safely attached.

I haven't seen such in decades but when they are there it's due to poor maintenance not a plan so it's no cultural difference.

not proper electric ones that switch off when they're ready

Well, you don't need electric kettle. It is quicker but over the hob one works just fine.

One explanation for the low amount of electric kettles was that they simply don't drink that much tea and for coffee use coffee machines.

And I find Polish pillows entirely unsatisfactory

I don't because then we have the question of the bed linen...Just learned to live with it.

They also don't seem to hang their laundry out on a washing line but dry it indoors

Truly weird. Indoors in winter but not when it's warm.

American air travel definitely the worst in the developed world.

Never heard that. Do you have example of the anti-human interior design?

then I feel like a woman when sitting in an American movie theater or subway car.

What does that mean? And I'm not a big fan of Airton myself.

6 (bedding) - I saw it on videos and such. Doesn't make much sense to me but apparently it's supposed to be easier to adjust how worm you get as you can kick off the blanket and cover just with the sheet.

Here I must say I'm not a fan of British size pillows.

7 (light) - really? I like bright spaces and mood lighting works for me in pubs and such but not at home.

8 (bidets) - I can't say they are that common in Poland. Are they in Russia?

it's annoying that you can't buy regular aspirin or ibuprofen at drugstores or supermarkets.

Oh yes, would annoy the hell out of me. Here you can buy 2 boxes only at any one time. During little epidemic in my family I needed to buy kids paracetamol and ibuprofen and adult paracetamol and ibuprofen. Thankfully the shop assistant at the self service looked at me and said:

Just pay for your shipping with two and then a second 'shop' for the others. I will authorise.

I don't like immigrants

We know. No-one spending 5 minutes on this forum could avoid this knowledge. I, however, meant more thing that are differentin your new country.

I was thinking recently about my time in UK. While I really dislike immigrants complaining how stupid things are in the new country I must admit there are few things that annoy/ baffle me.

So I thought with the number of migrants here we could have quite a nice moan about different countries.

For me in UK:

Windows that open out not in. Just so frustrating îf you are used to clean windows.

No sockets in most bathrooms, not even one for toothbrush. My toothbrush is in the bedroom and I dry my hair in various places depending on the rest of the household sleeping needs. I even dried it in the hallway on the floor.

Who's next?

Travel / Weird and wonderful Polish train fares [79]

@amiga500
Well that happens. With every form of transport. It means though that rail is good enough for people to buy out.

Hard to believe though that all the connections, including local ones, are sold out.
