Life / Polish women fight for their rights - manifa and other events [306]

ou would have joined the German army in 1939, would you?

Didn't he once say his family was deported during the WW II from the Generalgouvernement to the city of Breslau, an ethnically German town until 1945? No, the Nazi authorities never settled Polish people in the Reich during the war (unless, perhaps, there was some special reason for that).

[term: feminazi] I am sure those maniacal rightists realise that it discredits them but they just can`t resist, it is stronger than them. :)

Another term: soy boy, goes nicely with feminazi, don't you think so?

History / Cursed soldiers controvercy - not all Poles respect them [320]

You do realize that not even 2% of german population in WW II were party members?

Nevertheless the Nazi party did organize and lead the whole thing pompously naming it a "Thousand-Year Reich". However, it survived only 12 years of the 1,000 envisaged...

Off-Topic / Russophiles can no longer defend their beloved Russians. [84]

try to sue in Russia because your soup is served not warm enough or because you need a carpet to pray on.

Russia's parliament has advanced strict new internet laws allowing the authorities to jail or fine those who spread fake news or disrespect government officials online

If the Russian government were to exercize authority over the PF, it would have been closed almost immediately and most members, including clowns such as Dirk diggler or Rich Mazur, would have been sent to prison and served soup not warm enough (if only that!).

History / History of two Neighbors: Poland - Germany Interrelations [283]

The truth is that if the Americans had not imported von Braun from the Nazi Germany, they would have cartainly had their own man inventing all those things... I am sure someone like him would have emerged sooner or later in the US which is the most innovative country in the world.

My heroes are Wernher von Braun

Same.

If Untersturmführer SS Werhner von Braun (who joined the NSDAP in 1934 and the SS in 1940) had successfuly finished his programme for Herr Hitler, your family would have been reduced to the role of Untermenschen and you would never have been able to travel to Chicago and then spill your hatred directed at people of colour from there. Or if Herr Hitler and his diabolic state survived a little longer, von Braun's rockets would have certainly hit New York and Chicago one day and the United Stated could have find itself in a pickle. Then you could have possibly arrived in Chicago, but in a Nazi uniform, if the Nazis accepted you as being a member of an Untermenschen family.

Except I'd also add Wagner, goring, goebbels, Himmler

Ha ha ha, these are heros chosen by one of the Untermenschen. Göring und Goebbels und Himmler - fabulous! The Third Reich eternally alive!

West Germany effectively looted East Germany

Agreed, it looted them of part of their population. If the East remained independent, the migration would not have been as big as it was. On the other hand, the process of de-communisation would not have been as thorough as it actually was. And Merkel would not have been raised to the post of Bundeskanzlerin, but she would have remained in the DDR from where she wouldn't have been able to announce her famous 'Wir schaffen das" political agenda.

while Berlin would become a kind of free city

Of course, something had to be done with Berlin. Berlin would have been a problem. A free city could have been a solution, yes, and even under the European "ownership" rather than the dual BRD/DDR one or the city could become fully independent. A fully independent Berlin could have been an interesting option as one day it could have been transformed into an EU capital, replacing Brussels in that role after new member states joined the EU.

The problem of finding a new capital for the transformed DDR would have remained, however. Brandenburg would do, in my view, as sort of centrally located place and once upon a time having been replaced by Berlin in as a major town in that region.

But that option of territorial exchange of West Berlin for western Thüringen intrigues me a lot. Can anyone of our German friends confirm it? If it really was deliberated at one time, it would mean people in West Germany must have been firmly conscious of that historical background which I have outlined in my previous post.

The is why I have always advocated, following the opinion of the unforgettable Margaret Thatcher of the United Kingdom, that East Germany (former DDR) should not unite with West Germany, but remain an independent state.

The rift is not only ideological, but it is a deeply-rooted historical and economical one. Is it true that one German chancellor was prepared to exchange West Berlin for certain western areas of Thüringen as he along with his country men in the Bonn Republic felt that the whole Berlin belongs to the East and western Thüringen belongs to the West?

From the historical perspective East Germany is the "new" Germany, whereas West Germany is the "old" Germany. If we moved back in time to, say, the year 1100, we would see that East Germany was basically not Germany yet and German was either not spoken at all or spoken by the few there. Thus, the rift is much older than 'die Grenze zwischen der DDR und der Bonner Republik'.

a migrant ghetto in a big town....say....Berlin...

Yes, big towns are something special. I actually observed the same immigration landscape when I travelled from Amsterdam to a little village in Frisland. No people of colour there, only the cows, the white indigenous people and us, two white tourists from Poland in the village. Absolutely shocking after a stay in Amsterdam ...

You have apparently not detected irony in my question. The irony that neither would be detected by those obsessed with the question of immigration, because for people affected it is hard to see the world beyond their obsessions... :-)

Maybe JK should start an anti-gay purge.... staring with.....

Yes, rumours have been circulating for quite a time. Tbh, I don't really believe them. If it were true, someone would have already come up with something much more real than just rumours. There was that remark made by Lech Wałęsa once, but I believe it came out of pure political malice ...

Was he for immigration or against immigration, prey tell.

Dirk, Russia will be much earlier "lost" than Germany, their starting point is lower....I wouldn't look to Putin and Russia as a role model

That's very interesting, BB. Other reports and, for example, occasional shots on Polish TV, say that rural, provincial Russia is dying from alcohol problems. Putin isn't solving any of Russia's problems, he is rather aggreviating them. He launches his campaigns against LGBT instead to divert attention from the real demographic problems. His enthusiasts in America, like Dirk diggler or Rich Mazur, buy this narrative knowing nothing about contemporary Russia, just becuse Putin's narrative compllies with their own. Russia's policy of tolerating violence against their women is only slightly less accepting than tolerating violence against LGTB. The most drastic cases of abuse are being reported in the Polish social media (I wonder if such reports reach Germany or other countries of the so-called 'rotten' West).

Muslim immigrants from the former Soviet republics in the south settling in Russia have a big chance to be more successful on the productive front, but also to live much more healthy life due to the ban on alcohol in Muslim religion (true, abuse against women is a big problem there as well).

Plus: vodka

Yes, vodka is an extremely important factor in Russia..

the slavic look is more pronounced with Russians than with Poles who mixed with other central western Europeans

On the other hand, the Russians mixed with the tribes of the East much more than the Poles. The percentage of the R1a haplogroup which is believed to be 'Slavic' is the highest among Poles except for the relatively small group of the Sorbian-speaking Sorbs in Lusatia where the percentage is even higher.

I don't really believe in the so-called "Slavic look". For example, Weimarer who gave the link to his picture on another website may as well be taken for a Pole or a Russian. True, there are some distinctly looking types among, for example, Italians or French or Greeks. But in my view, this is not the case for Germans or Poles. There are also such distinct types among the Dutch or the English in northern England.

Perhaps he also spoke Polish?

Quite likely. He didn't attempt to speak in Polish to me, however, and my British accent had not been so good at the beginning of my stay as it was at the end of it [these days it is as bad as never before :-( ].

He explained he recognised a Polish person in me "by my eyes".

Czechs don't usually look like this, having often broader, more Western-European, i.e. "Germanic" faces:-)

Genetically speaking, Czechs are a mixture of Slavs on one hand (about 51%) and Celto-German blood (major part of the rest) on the other or so does the Czech press say. These findings seem to be confirmed in the history: what is now Czechia was first inhabited by the Celts (hence its maedival name: Bohemia), then conquered by a Germanic tribe (weren't they Marcomans?) and finally Slavic people came and settled there.

there is not a general "Polish look", but I can tell some Poles from 100 metres away

I think it's not only "look", but probably something else as well, perhaps body and facial expression. I had a similar experience in London many years ago, at a time when there were very few Polish people from Poland in England. One black man who was trying to sell me a religious book said to me that I was Polish just after the few phrases I exchanged with him in the street.

At this point I am able recall the couple of my Dutch friends who came to visit us in Poland passing through Germany in their camper shortly after the German unification. They said they could never tell if someone was an Ossi or a Wessi while they were meeting them both on camp sites in Germany. But what used to amazed the Dutch couple most was that the native German man/woman was always right at guessing who a fellow German was: Wessi or Ossi. I wonder if this is still the case

Law / Cajun from Louisiana state seeking refuge/new life in Poland? Wishing to become Polish (is it possible?) [34]

Someone who is unhappy with immigration who wants to become an immigrant.

The PF has transferred itself into a platform of speech for immigrants from Poland who hate immigration, so no wonder it is a proper place for people like Manson.

lots of them hardly ever go to church, even the older ones, especially if they live in a city and don't feel that they're under scrutiny by their neighbours.

I think it is no longer the case, in bigger towns (not only major towns) for sure.

Genealogy / What are common Polish character traits? [425]

taking into account what Paulina wrote about you

Why do you treat Paulina as some sort of authority on the PF? Paulina appears on the forum occasionaly and when she does, she usually splits the hair into four and then she suddenly disappears.

johnny_reb is a Polish-American... But a special kind... A sociopathic kind

To call someone "sociopathic kind" is in itself sociopathic. The person who does it cannot be trusted at all.

All I can say is that Johnny was a devoted defender of the "Polish" case at the time when Poland, the Polish people and the Pol-Ams were under constant attack and abuse from Harry and his gang which were also known as "Brit Bullies" aka "The Gang of Three". I know something about it as I was personally attacked at the very moment when I joined the PF and the attacks on me by Harry and Jon357 continued ever since.

Where was Paulina at that time? She was conveniently hiding under a table as she was too scared to crawl from underneath and say a word in defence of Poland.

Torq, I think that your opinion on JR is utterly wrong:

seeing in your profile that you have warnings for both abusing and trolling, I think I have a pretty good idea now of who am I dealing with

History / Polish and German Borders-Justice for Both Countries or not? [37]

And i? I dont know...im in my early 20th and have no real connection to it.

At that age people usually do not feel much connection with the past. This definitely comes later on in life. If you wanted to set foot in Lower Silesia, I would recommend a visit to a major town which in this case would be Wrocław (Breslau).

At the age of 17, I decided to visit (East) Berlin which was my first self-reliant trip abroad (be it with a friend). I had no previous connection to Germany whatsoever, but was probably inspired by my stay on an international summer youth camp in a big forest/national park near Warsaw where I met two German peers who were there along with people from Poland, Slovakia and Bulgaria. They were nice guys from Berlin (Thomas und Eike) who later on even came back again to Warsaw for a visit. With them there was a DDR teacher who patiently explained to everyone who wanted to listen how East Germany was going first to level out with and then triumphantly surpass the high economic level of life enjoyed by West Germany. From today's point of view it may seem rather amusing, but at that time nobody could have guessed that DDR would one day be devoured by West Germany. Ha ha ha, what an incredible time it was!

Last year I decided to re-visit the German capital for the first time since then. And I have found the city incredibly different, so much different that it was not "my" Berlin at all, but some other city! But in general, I was feeling much more at home in what was once East Berlin than in former West Berlin where we were actually staying.

History / Polish and German Borders-Justice for Both Countries or not? [37]

people propably would be mad at me, seeing a young german walking around and check the area. They propapbly would think im s criminal.

Most probably that would not happen. On the other hand, I often read stories about people welcoming former German owners and gladly showing them to their old houses (you should bear in mind that the new owners were displaced from the eastern areas of Poland).

A most incredible story I have ever heard (from a colleague at work) was about a German man who got to know a Polish woman and after forming a liason with her, they both moved to her house which house in Krynica Morska (Kahlberg in former Ostpreussen) was precisely the house where... one of his parents was born before the WW II. The couple - I am told - live happily in that house to this very day!

There are quite a number of videos on youtube now where very elegant German old ladies who did not leave Lower Silesia after the war (they married Polish men) talk about their life before 1939 and after 1945 in the same Lower Silesian village or town. You will find them quite interesting, I suppose, should the ladies interviewed did not talk in perfect Polish (the films have no German or English subtitles).

Language / Game - guess Polish idioms/sayings in direct English translation [1756]

Better would be ' one hand washes the other '.

Thank you very much.

a raven won`t peck out another raven`s eye

Not so similar to me.

A modern (and truly vulgar) version of this is: Kurwa kurwie łba nie urwie (sorry, but I won't attempt to translate this into English).

A hand washes a hand (btw, this could be an inresting exercise for the proper use of articles; what should be the most natural version in English: either 'the hand washes a hand' or 'a hand washes the hand' or 'the hand washes the hand' or 'the hand washes the other hand' or 'hand washes hand'?). In Polish we don't need an article in front of 'hand', so it was rather difficult for me to pick up the correct version. Can anyone comment?

History / Poland - problem for Germany? (historically continual hostility of German state on Poland) [154]

My American version of the same is shorter: Fu** the World. And the climate change.

Actually, this is neither 'American' nor original at all. It was first said by that pathetic clown, King Louis XV of France: Après moi, le déluge!

Putin speaks fluent German and wants a alliance with Germany since decades.

Putin practiced his German a lot while he was staying in the DDR as a 'friendly' visitor and part of the Russian occupying force ...

If you want to set Germany and Poland back on an centuries old, bloody path, it's your choice...I would rather not.

I totally agree. If nationalists come to grips once again, it may end as it did one day in the year 1945 in Berlin, namely that one of them finally shots himself in his stupid head, but leaving half of Europe in ruin behind him first.
