Life / Do Poles have a problem understanding American English? [76]

We got to talking and he was pleasant enough, although his English often had numerous errors which of course I was too polite to correct.

I bet his mistakes were as terrible as your "I too like it" instead of "I like it too"

Do Poles have a problem understanding American English?

No, most Poles including myself, grew up being introduced to the American movies which made the sound of American English more familiar than any other.

I have no doubts which one I can understand better :-)

Language / Polish was chosen the HARDEST LANGUAGE in the world to learn... :D [1558]

Since this thread is entitled as it is, and the Czech language is close to Polish, could you perhaps enlighten us on some finer aspects of Czech grammar or spelling as compared to Polish?

second that, that would be interesting to hear. My observation tells me that Polish has more complex grammar for example English: at twelve oclock, Polish: o dwunastej, Czech: o dwanaście - no case changing the word dwanaście (twelve)

Language / Extremely Hard - Polish the hardest language to learn [226]

More simply put, you SEE the letter, but you instinctively pronounce the sound or grapheme "phonetically", i.e. as you THINK the sound(s) should be spoken because you still hear them in your native tongue.

Then that Polish person would pronaunce it " v - hat" never "vot". "A" is never "o" in Polish and "h" is never silent

Wulkan, sorry to embarrass you, but mistaking a Polish "w" for an English "v" is but soooooo typical of Poles learning English

I obviously miss the idea of how would you embarrass me. Some people might not be sure of the fact that "w" is always pronaunced as "ł" but absolutely no Pole would confuse it in the word "what" because it's very basic word. Germans and Russians can say "vot" because there is no "w" sound in their language so they simply replace it with the most similar one. That would never be the case with the Polish person no matter how much you argue about it :-)

You didn't even get me, you probably think that Japanese and Chinese are similar because native speakers of both have slanted eyes lol while they are nothing alike, so you obviously have no "personal experience"

Could you possibly provide examples of 'some of the syntax of expression' which are pronounced similarly?

I can't think of any...

btw. Lyzko, did you see the cool game I found? considering your good general knowledge about the languages I expect you can do pretty well ;-)

A lot of Poles are so complexed that they make up stupid theories according to wich they are always superior or unique

It's the foreigners who make that claim when they struggle to learn Polish so what are you talking about son?

If any of you would like to consult with me,

Why would they want to consult anything with you. There is a bunch of native Polish speakers on this forum, including myself, who also speak fluent English ( używając google translatora ośmieszasz się)

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

Does anyone know why it could be?

When Borat was learning "not jokes" in the movie his attempts were not approved by the teacher. Does anyone know why it could be?

I've yet to meet a Pole, other than solicitors, who doesn't use it as an adjective frequently.

I've yet to meet an English guy who doesn't say "fcuk" including solicitor who I spoke to when buying my property, now explain how different is that to Polish "kurwa"

Life / Babcia or Busha - any social class difference? [359]

Also I was thinking about territories that was part of former Poland. Like east of nowadays Poland up to Kiev

That option actually makes some sense

jon357:Yes. And that generation have a habit of dying on you. And when they're gone, they don't come back.
What? What are you even talking about?

It's not that hard to figure this out.

Life / Babcia or Busha - any social class difference? [359]

Why?

because it's incorrect and she as a native Polish speaker knew that and had to put up with it

Not really I would say... Depends on the family, most likely if the family had lived under the Russian yoke then they were most likely to continue it I guess.

You guess wrong, both of my parents grew up in this part of Poland and none of them ever heard of someoone calling their grandmother "busha"!
