History / How different would WW2 turned out if Poland accepted Hitler's offer [215]

Poland should get together with Lithuania

I afraid that the only country who could agree on close political, economic, administrative union with Poland and perhaps recognition of potential Polish leadership is Ukraine. Neither Lithuania, Czech, Slovakia or Hungary will look at such possibility seriously. Possibly Belarus, Serbia, Bulgaria may get interested but they either don't border with Poland or too different politically or have small ground for economic cooperation.

The first objective is to put Polish into Ukrainian schools.

Not a worst idea. I've heard Polish courses started to gain popularity even in some provincial Ukrainian cities. But in every secondary school... Ukrainians need some sound reason for this.

Life / How are electric cars doing in Poland? [413]

I wouldn't expect all-electric will become dominant in the nearest 50-100 years. Rather it is going to be a varieties of the hybrids. All-electric aren't simply rational taking in account the price and weight of batteries and speed of recharge. It can happen only due to a mandate.

ex-navy-engineer-built-car-battery-1500-mile-range/

The battery he proposed cannot be recharged electrically. Instead it suppose to be mechanically replaced for a new one.

It doesn't look like Poland does have any significant discovered Lithium reserves. No European country do. Most of reserves are located in South America.

Ukrainians are genteic mix between criminal Poles, Russians , poor farmers and Tatars and Turks.

Why only criminal Poles? Mostly it were Polish nobles and army veterans who attempted to colonize Ukraine during the centuries. Some traders, farmers and city dwellers as well. On average Ukrainians look more "Pontid" than Poles what may point to some ancient Balkan influx. Poles may have more German admixtures while some Ukrainians some Scandinavian. At least there are some Ukrainians who look quite Nordic. Also I agree on some Turkic admixtures. Not too bad though. Modern Turkey (the largest Turkic state) is doing quite well.

loads of Ukrainians going in to Poland now, not Turkey

I think, partially it could be linked to language and religion.

Oligarchs gotta step up their game!

Step up? What do you mean by that? Haven't they done it yet?

Something is wrong in Ukraine!

I can imaging the following reasons. 1) Ukraine experienced huge negative selection and high-quality population losses due to wars, genocides, repressions and immigration. Poland as well, but probably slightly less. As a result criminals took over in society. 2) After USSR breakdown Ukraine lost 70% of its manufacturing and still struggles to find its place or at least survive on the very competitive World market. Poland should be too, but it received large investments and loans by EU lines. Not so Ukraine. In order to recover, probably, Ukraine needs to implement 1) A large scale eugenics program like mass cloning of the best native Ukrainians (by standards of moral and talent). 2) Ask other countries to help crack down on corruption. 3) Enter EU or create confederacy with Poland (what is basically the same thing) and ask other countries about "Marshal Plan".

Poland has been lucky as it is closer to Western Europe

And still it has to go a long way... Ukraine is officially a democracy, but democracy doesn't work very well on empty stomach and staff shortages...

Democracy works well with an educated population

Also courage, unification, organizational skills, mutual aid, morality. Where do you think courageous, politically conscious and moral people from Eastern Europe went after WWI, citizenship war in Russia, Holodomor, purges, WWII, etc., and especially the latest 30 years of the criminal takeover and social collapse? Survivors went to immigration and work abroad.

According to some claims around 60% of Poles and 50% of Ukrainians carry R1a haplogroup (the most common Slavic haplogroup). The second most common among both is I1b, which originated likely somewhere on the territory which is now Croatia. Ukrainians have slightly more of it. Also Poles have more R1b than Ukrainians (typical to Celtic origins), while Ukrainians have more E3b, J, G (which are common in Southern Europe, Balkans, Middle East and North Caucasus). Also Ukrainians have just a bit of N1 (typical to Finno-Hungarians and Baltic people) and even such exotic haplogroup as Q which is most common among Amerindians. I'm puzzled where is it from in Ukrainians...

History / Should Poland organize March of the Living in Volhynia and Eastern Lesser Poland? [27]

The genocide of Poles in Volhynia and Eastern Lesser Poland perpetrated by Ukrainian nationalists

This case is unique because commonly genocide is a something that is organized by an ethnic majority against an ethnic minority. In rare cases by an advanced and ruling minority against backward and colonized majority. But in Poland Ukrainians were small and oppressed minority. So this is probably an exceptional case in history when an armed uprising of an ethnic minority against ruling majority is called genocide. Also usually nations start to talk about genocide when number of victims is counted in millions rather than in tens of thousands. Some Polish sources claim that around 60.000 Poles were killed by Ukrainians and around 23.000 of Ukrainians by Poles in all the former Poland in 1943-1945. More Poles than Ukrainians, but still it is a numbers which are measured in the same orders of magnitude. For a normal nations: "if you owe me and I owe you - the debts are cancelled". Ukrainians expressed their position on the subject long ago: "we forgive and expect to be forgiven".

Yes, but Poles retaliated on Ukrainians

Not necessarily in all the cases. Some Ukrainians claim there were cases of massacres on Ukrainian villages by Polish nationalists and Polish "polizais" who served to Nazi occupants even before the mass scale actions from Ukrainian side. Also they claim many cases on the territory of modern Poland in Zakerzonje region and town of Chelm vicinity, especially during operation "Vistula" in 1944-1947 when many Ukrainians been terrorized.

Stop twisting facts - we aren`t talking about whole Poland but its Eastern territory.

Where is a twisting here and why we need to separate Eastern part of the then Poland from entire Poland? Current Polish govt. claims that the citizens of "second Polish republic" had been subjected to genocide. Ukrainians constituted minority in the second Polish republic, that's a fact. Also it is typically governments who are accused in genocides. Entire nations aren't accused in the actions of a rogue groups.

Yes, but Poles retaliated on Ukrainians

But doesn't retaliation means debt cancellation? Or what is the point?

And it wasn`t Polish polizais but Ukrainian ones who collaborated with Germans.

It changed year to year. After Ukrainian nationalists attempted to proclaim independent Ukraine somewhere in the late 1941 Germans outlawed them and put their leader in concentration camp. After that they've started actively involve Poles in collaboration instead of Ukrainians. Sometimes Polish nationalists including the collaborators had no mercy on Ukrainians. Only in 1944 when Germans were beaten severely by Soviet Army they changed their relation to Ukrainians and started to form divisions like "SS Galicia". Ukrainians aren't inclined to dig in the past as much as Poles and probably not all such cases have been documented. But read for example about cases in Krasny Sad in April of 1943 and other villages.

dobrodziej.webnode.com.ua/news/czyja-prawda-czyja-krzywda

I reminded you we are talking about Kresy where Poles where a minority, sth like 20% to 80%.

Minorities are counted by their relation to the countries they live, not by territories. I think you perfectly know that Ukrainian nationalists wouldn't target Poles if they would certain that Ukraine after WWII would become part of USSR (or independent later). They targeted them only because they still perceived them as an ethnic MAJORITY who is a potential threat to independent Ukraine.

Why only 60 and 50%? Shouldn`t it be close to 100%??

Why it should? There is probably no Slavic nation in which R1a is close to 100%. Russians and Belorussians have around 45%. Poles have more than others at 60%.

Genetically, the closest relives to the Polish are ukrainians, croatian and hungarians.

Probably Poles are closer to ethnic Russians and Belarussians than to Hungarians and Lithuanians. The later aren't even Slavic nations. Culture/religion and genetics is not the same thing.

History / The memory about the Invasion of Poland 1939 - today's events [20]

81 years ago humanity said: «No!» to National-Socialism.

There were plenty of those who said "yes". Italy, Japan, Finland, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia officially supported Hitler. If Nazis would be clever they would attract many more supporters among occupied Slavic territories. Many people just tired of Stalin and other rulers.

in the next 10 to 20 years electric cars will replace gasoline engine cars.

More likely not all-electric cars, but hybrids and they will only start to replace all-gasoline cars in 10-20 years. All-electric Teslas will be too expensive even in 20 years for an average consumer. Then this gradual replacement may take 30 more years. So, don't expect total replacement in the next 40-50 years, at least. Some new power plants have to be built first, then a new types of batteries created, giant battery producing factories built around the World, battery recycling facilities. Then a huge infrastructural works have to be done like putting a thick copper or aluminum cables underground to every house, parking lot and charging station. Every parking lot have to be equipped with a lot of charging poles. A huge work has to be done.

My friends with Tesla's didn't have to put thick copper or aluminum cables underground to charge their cars.

This is because still a few people charge their cars nowdays. Can you imagine load on the greed when nearly everyone will do the same?!

Did you not read my post #217 about the new million mile battery ?

First, World still has to see this battery and prove the claims. It is not only important how long battery lasts, but also energy density and the price. For now batteries aren't already there.

how will that electricity be produced to fill this void on the grid ?

I think advanced nuclear power looks most promising now. It depends on country. Here in Canada 60% of e. power is produced by inexpensive hydroelectric plants. Up to 90% in some provinces. Then follows nuclear with 19%. Then natural gas at 9%. The rest are coal and renewables. Electric cars consume 4 times less energy than a gasoline ones, so this task looks quite manageable.

We have owned a hybrid, not much of a difference economically

What was the electric range? How much have you spent for electricity and repair? How it compares to a gasoline one? Have you received a subsidy from the govt.?

No exhaust system to replace and almost dead quiet.

Cargo Pants was spoking about a hybrid, not about all-electric like Tesla. All-electric could be a cars of the future, but quite a distant one.

I've heard that is supposed to change as it posses a danger.

Yes, but in the case of a noise imitator it is going to send sound waves just straight forward, not to all the sides or inside a vehicle like an engine does. And produce no infrasound or vibrations.

That's great, but I think no average customer will ever agree to pay 20-30 K just for a battery and replace it every 8-10 years. And still have much smaller range than gasoline cars. And have minimal charging time in dozens of minutes or hours (to save the battery). I bet plug-in hybrids with 5-10 K battery and no range anxiety will have a better chance.

Tesla is coming out September 22cd with their battery day.

I think all-electric are vulnerable to outages. In large city it may even result in a disaster. Hybrids are more reliable on that point.

I would prefer noiseless flying "car" without wheels, rotors and wings which flies by the force of a "magic". I wonder if something like this will be ever created.

So you would rather put 20 gallons of gas in your car per week

Is this your "Hummer" fuel consumption or where is it from? I think plug-in hybrids will be optimal in 10-20 years. Hopefully with 100 kg battery which costs 5-10 K a driver would be able to drive 150-200 km on electricity which means cutting fuel consumption around 20 times. And have no worries about the range, speed of charging and power plant outages. What else does a normal driver need?

$4 per gallon equals $42k for gas in ten years

An average American spends around $1400 a year on gasoline, so it closer to 14000 in ten years. But this number includes a large vehicles.

As of last year, the Model S Long Range has an EPA range of 373 miles (600 km)

What is the weight of the battery, 400 kg? And the price is 30 K? And those ranges are given for idealized conditions, much less in real life.

$4 per gallon

Now price in US seems to be around $2.1 a gallon. 75 liters (20 gallons) a week is rather quite much.
