Food / What do non-Poles think about eating the following Polish foods? [1413]

I think we are thinking about a different band but this is not for this thread.

Polish sausages are really the stuff of legends! Anyone who thinks the Germans have the lead in this regard is either sadly misinformed or plainly just doesn't know. Sausages here are a culinary delight! Now, any 'awkward' foods?

Sid, not so ancient and, well, not rock ;) You are Polish, right Sid? It's hard to go far wrong with Polish food. Meatballs are manageable for most. Dumplings too. Only tripe stands out. I haven't encountered problems with much else. Tripe was fine for me. Not 'gads'.

Probably! I don't intend to second guess anyone here. As for Polish food, well, there are a few things which could catch out the undiscerning sampler but life is all about choice, right? Unsure? Don't go there unless you are willing to take the consequences ;)

As I said, pam, I don't want to speak for others as they will undoubtedly do that for themselves.

Life / Polish mentality towards Pakistan [108]

Milwaukee, wasn't Dahmer from there? ;) In Wisconsin, I think, not Poland. There are many Poles there for sure but speaking for Poles from afar is only going to incur their wrath.

Touche, JM! I think some Poles expected red carpets and la creme de la creme of tea&biscuits waiting for them upon their arrival. Sorry but pecking orders are in place pretty much wherever you go. Like it or not, the Pakistanis are quite well established in certain areas in the UK. Most jobs require exp and if you don't have it, you have to be given a chance to get it. My wife had to work under a Pakistani until she found a job teaching Polish there. You just have to grin and bear the worst elements of it. Blindness as shown phillip is to completely ignore the British job dynamic.

Off-Topic / Ukrainian language [50]

To the OP, don't raise the issue with NSBM folk. You might leave the bar in a rather worse state. Ukrainians have worked hard at carving out their own identity and no deluded Pole should try and make you believe otherwise.

Blatant provocation! Some in the east speak Russian but they won't beat you up. You've been spun a yarn!

Pawian, any others? My student told me of a Silesian soup which is traditionally eaten on Xmas Eve. It began with 's' but, for the world of me, I can't remember the name of it. Even my wife doesn't know the name of it :) I think butter is a main ingredient.

Life / Polish mentality towards Pakistan [108]

Many Poles don't give Pakistan a second thought. That's about all that needs to be said. The last time would have been because Pakistani Taliban lopped off the head of an innocent man in Piotr Stanczak.

Life / Poles - the Nation of Liars? [478]

Hehehe, top riposte! He might be a part-time liar. In which case, we are left guessing as to which part ;)

UK, Ireland / Why are Polish people, especially women, so disrespectful toward the English? [437]

It always comes back to the same thing, sascha. I believe you know what I am going to say. It's the thinking of simpletons to tar a whole group with the same brush. However, it does raise an important question (although I see no question mark, lol). I agree with an earlier post which says you are more footloose and fancy free when abroad. I've heard countless tales of looseness.

Food / Origin of the pierogi [118]

Many Poles say pierogies in my English classes as they see it as a hybrid word. They are good when dropped into boiling water too :) :)

Gyouza are fantastic. I loved them in Asia.

Life / Do Polish people have a good ear for music? [90]

On average, perhaps yes. The Italians have produced some of the greatest classical musicians but is this discussion confined to classical? I think not. Anyway, Albinoni and Allegri spring to mind. There are many more. The Czechs? Not so much but they had Dvorak and Smetana. It all depends on the type of music we are discussing and even then, it's all general.

Life / Do Polish people have a good ear for music? [90]

Some do and some don't, Pol3. Sunday mass is your benchmark? Oh dear!! Why are you here, Paweł? I came for the music :) :) Slavic soul? What does that have to do with it? First off, what kind of music? The leading classical musicians were German and Austrian.
