Work / Proofreading - What is the going rate in Warsaw? [40]

The thing is, companies are starting to realise that, as with language lessons, with proofreading you get what you pay for.

Exactly. There are a few ways to go about it. Undercutting everyone could cause too much of a stir. Charge too much and you will only shoot yourself in the foot in the long term. When I was in that game I had contracts with larger companies such as Onet, Real and Polmos. Apart from being friends with the owners/directors I also gave them a "double proof read" (in basic terms I outsourced the work to others for 7pln per 1600 and afterwards done the double checking myself). There is money to be made in it, but it takes a long time before you get the proper money earners. My ex fiance basically budgeted me down to one spreadsheet. 4000pln for teaching (not full time) 8000pln for proofreading (not including what I was paying out) and 7000pln for Electrolux. If I met those targets she might even let me in bed :D:D

P.s Before anyone starts, writing on an internet forum and proofreading while getting paid are two totally different things ;)

You probably want at least 20zl per page (standard rate would be about four pages per hour).

Or undercut everyone and do it for 15z per 1600 IF you have a big enough client base and steady work coming in...

Love / What strange/unnerving/funny things do your Polish wives do? [153]

only this week my wife tried to hoover when the football was on.

Haha!

Luckily ma missus enjoys football (and rugby) and even supports the same team so things aren't that bad :)

It's not really her fault that Poland pays peanuts to some managers.

Yep agreed 100%, the managers make the cash and the directors pocket it....story of Poland really.

Food / Polish name for cut of beef [29]

Anyway - are you sure? Try googling "rib eye for burgers" and have a look.

Can always add fat to the lean meat if you want a good burger ;)

life of animal i.e grazing or barn kept

Dealing with cattle, most animals will be kept on pasture during the good weather and kept indoors while the weather is bad, it's the quality of feed given to them during that indoor period that makes a massive difference on not only the meat, but also the other by-products. One of the reasons lamb/mutton is normally such a good meat is because they can be kept on pasture for longer periods and just topped up with feed once in a while if the weather is really bad. The quality of pasture is also important, for example in Ayrshire you have some of the best dairy/beef cattle in the UK due to the fact that it's on the gulf stream and hardly freezes over. On the borders you have great black mutton due to the fact that the animals spend most of their time on the hill side eating heather and other such wild grasses.

Love / Do Polish men make good husbands? [106]

I've never seen ANY woman out in the yard with a lawnmower, actually I had my balls busted by my miss us the other day for mere suggesting that she could mow her own lawn after she hinted that I could do it!

Food / Kaszanka and haggis? [34]

Arbroath was the first to start that nonsense.

Not that you needed to give me any excuses never to visit that junkie filled hell hole :D

I guess some Poles there have tried it and taken 10 years off of their lives.

It's quite interesting looking at some of the Polish lassies I know who come here skinny as a rake then suddenly get addicted to the chippy crap... doesn't take em long to plump up :D

Food / Polish bacon doesn't fry up? [70]

Add some bacon to that and hope your heart doesn't explode.

Was at an "Irish" pub yesterday with some lass (mainly for the live music) and ordered some traditional irish platter for the 2 of us (I know how to treat a lady, cheapest thing on the menu!). The Irish platter consisted of nachos, chicken nuggets and bacon twislers. Being the fine arts student that she was, i doubt it went down very well lol

Food / Kaszanka and haggis? [34]

Kaszanka is a food for those who wish for an early grave.

Kaszanka is all right, hit or miss for me. You need to cover the lot with a tonne of pepper to get any true favour. With Haggis you know you are getting something yummy. Must be stated that Haggis(lamb or mutton) and Kaszanka(pig) are 2 totally different things, closest you will get to kaszanka is black pudding but with big differences in flavour.
