News / Poland fines singer for bashing Bible [159]

Fuzzy, re-read my posts and you will see that I was offering to post examples of religious intolerance
not specific requests

there's a good lad

yes. i'd like you to post some examples of someone making a similar comment to Doda's in the USA and having to pay a fine for it. thanks!

I am sorry, I don't do specific requests

however there are plenty of examples of where American nut cases shot doctors for performing abortions
personally I think I would much rather pay a fine

there are examples of religious intolerance from across the world so it is not confined just to bashing the Catholic Church
although there are plenty of examples of Catholic bashing too

it is a quite a big collection of articles but it is well worth having a look at
however it is 3.4 Mb so I am not sure if there is some strange forum law against uploading JPEGS
having never done it before it could be a bit challenging
now that I have built this up, what is the betting that I cannot upload it?

tell you what, let's wait five mins to see if a mod pops up like a jack-in-the-box advising me not to upload it
and if we don't hear anything I will have a stab at posting it

in the meantime you can contemplate what the future might hold for you, once you shuffle off this mortal coil
it will do you a power of good - contemplating an eternity in damnation... unless....

THAT is why this Polish law is ridiculous.

laws tend to favour the predominant religion of that country

insult Buddha or the Thai royal family in Thailand and you will be lucky if you just get a good kicking

try a similar stunt directed at Islam in Saudi Arabia and let me know how you get on

want me to post some examples of religious intolerance? Many of them are directed against the good old US of A so don't be getting upset now

there is still time to repent, you know

I would not be surprised if she does not pay the fine voluntarily and issue an apology
that way it is even more publicity

it still would be laughable to suggest that's the only way people rehydrated themselves.

absolutely correct however if you were in a London inn five hundred years ago drinking the water would have been unwise
that is unless you fancied the idea of turning your digesive tract into a nature reserve for bacteria

as for the concept of mixing wine with contaminated water in a hope to purify it, frankly I am sceptical

the lambrusco and septic tank example (although extreme) springs to mind

If you believed in it, you would know who was "chosen".

oh dear, there you go opening Pandora's box again, just wait until right wing America wakes up later this afternoon...

how were my comments about the kosher diet and its influence on food hygiene (vice versa)?

why do they win and I lose?

because eternal salvation awaits and that is something significant to lose

repent... there is still time

on another note, without the Catholic Church (love em, hate em, but do not discount what they have done for the Polish nation)
it is unlikely that Poland would have survived all these centuries, so if Doda gets a fine for upsetting
a load of old ladies who look after cats, then I do not have a problem with it

personally I find her dress sense and bad-girl rock chick persona coupled with the fact that she is a talentless cow far more offensive

Would you also prosecute Sir Salman Rushdie?

me personally, yes gladly

the vile little git deserved the fatwa and I for one am disappointed that he did not get what he deserved

winding up the entire muslim community just to make a few quid the poisonous little weasel

Work / What would be a good salary for an MBA graduate in Poland? [27]

no

it probably won't be

however it is worth considering that your HQ is sending you to Poland it may lead to other things

turning down international moves is often seen as career suicide in some firms and unless you have a plan B
job lined up stateside, you might not have a lot of choice

one of my Polish friends moved to Hamburg two years ago and her company have now promoted her to head of Thailand

you did not mention whether you have kids

I presume you do not

what line of work are you in?

UK, Ireland / Warning to British people visiting Poland!! Don't get drunk and smash the place up! [447]

@shocked

you admit that your son went to Poland with the intention of getting drunk and causing trouble

* you must be very proud of how you raised him

he sounds like a real prospective pillar of the community

and then those nasty Polish policeman locking him up

It appears you have raised the lad to take utterly no responsiblity for his actions

please tell me that he is an only child

News / Polish prosecutor 'shoots self after news conference' [93]

the irony was that he was a bit of a marksman

I was speaking to a lawyer friend who told me that the prosecutor used to practice almost daily on the range

I pointed out that he was used to shooting at targets in the distance and not sticking the barrel in his gob

the more I think about it, the more this looks like a cry for help

it takes but a few seconds for restricted blood flow to render someone unconscious.

indeed it does. blood chokes take about three seconds tops and holding your breath doesn't do a damn thing

News / Polish prosecutor 'shoots self after news conference' [93]

I read that however Lepper could have fainted the moment he felt the rope tighten

I am not a pathologist. Then again neither is Maksymiuk and one thing is for sure a drop from a chair is not going to break your neck. It could do it I suppose if you weighed more than 300 kgs but then the chair would break, or you would not be able to climb on it, or you would bring the ceiling down with you, rope would break etc

what a fun thread this is turning out to be

News / Polish prosecutor 'shoots self after news conference' [93]

I hardly feel that Janusz Maksymiuk's private opinion is particularly valuable.
he is trying to salvage his own political career so he is hardly going to be sharing any revelations
Nothing in the article talks about broken necks

the laws of physics dictate that it is unlikely that you will break your neck by kicking away a chair
as the drop is not sufficient to allow your body to accelerate sufficiently to get a clean break

don't go trying this at home now, just to prove me wrong :-)

the thing is if he was standing on a chair and kicked it away it would break his neck - it curiously didn't

assuming Andrzej Lepper was 89 kg it would have taken a 165 cm drop to break his neck

any less of a drop, he would have strangled himself taking 30 minutes to die, too long a drop and his head would have been torn off leaving

a lot of additional work for the cleaners

google the table of drops, fun reading

News / Polish prosecutor 'shoots self after news conference' [93]

the autopsy: 3 days after the death - spinal cord not broken - the guy supposedly was hanging 30 minutes before he died

that would not break your neck

Andrzej Lepper did not go to the trouble of erecting a gallows and scaffold ensuring that he would break his neck when the trapdoor opened. Instead he went for the DIY death by hanging - crushing his windpipe and blood choking himself to death - groovy

within the officer ranks there has always been a bit of a 'pass me the service revolver, I am going out into the corridor' mentality

I believe he missed though. Back on the range for him when he comes out of hospital

Life / Sending SMS / text message online from/to Poland? [22]

Play is owned by a company called P4

I do not believe that Play has its own network
I believe that they rent space from other established providers with their own network such as Polkomtel

I have been biting the bullet and using Skype. Free it most certainly is not but I have to send very detailed SMS
messages to people in a number of countries

Life / Automobiles vs. Pedestrians in Poland [77]

in order to answer the question of automobiles vs pedestrians in Poland, the winner appears to be automobiles

they seem to be very good at killing pedestrians

particularly in Poland which is the undisputed European heavyweight champ when it comes to butchering pedestrians

read 'em and weep

To compare the pedestrian fatality numbers of different countries
the respective population size has been taken into account (see
Table 2). The rate varies from 5,5 pedestrian fatalities per million
inhabitants in Sweden to 46,0 pedestrian fatalities by million
inhabitants in Poland, a rate which is more than 8 times higher.

ec.europa.eu/transport/road_safety/specialist/knowledge/pdf/bfs 2007_sn-kfv-1-3-pedestrians.pdf

it seems that combining drunk pedestrians, bloody minded motorists and poorly maintained and unlit roads appears to have been a bit of a recipe for disaster

can't see why

Life / Automobiles vs. Pedestrians in Poland [77]

Even if both people are in a car the one who has the better car thinks he has the right of passage.

not entirely true. the best piece of driving advice I ever received regarding driving in Warsaw was to wait until you see a car which is of higher value than your own and pull out in front of it. The other driver would be forced to slam on the breaks enabling you to enter the junction unscathed

note: avoid doing it to expensive Mercedes and BMWs with tinted windows

Life / Polish home remedies for cold, stomach ache, migraine? [49]

this is actually not good. Honey is sugar and it helps the bacteria grow.

The ancient Egyptians used honey as an antiseptic and stuck in on wounds
they have found jars of it in tombs from the time of the Pharoahs and it is still perfectly edible
so sorry, no sale

the traditional Polish remedy is the juice of an onion with the juice of a clove of garlic mixed with sugar
to kill the taste

tastes revolting but works

my favourite Polish expression on colds 'if you treat a cold, you will be better in 7 days, if you do not treat it,
it will take a week'

Life / Babcia or Busha - any social class difference? [359]

But even if some Polish Americans did use that word or another version of "babcia", what's the big deal?

As a Brit I wholeheartedly agree with you

what is the big deal?

what is next? a lengthly and meaningless debate about the spelling of color/colour
or perhaps a discussion on the correct pronunciation of the word tomato?

Life / Why is circumcision not practiced in Poland? [701]

the foreskin was needed when we were primitive man moseying through the undergrowth
with the advent of under crackers, the foreskin is no longer needed much like the appendix

Life / Rich man, poor man - today`s Poland [80]

as the world's population continues to grow, leading to the associated problems with pollution, lack of water and food etc
there has to be a system in place to prevent consumerism from destroying the planet

Canada became the first country to legally pull out of the Kyoto Treaty yesterday
This is a green light for any other country to use the economic downturn as an excuse to renege upon their plans
to clean up their own back yard

Communism does not work as a system unless in an ant hill or a bee hive
Humans are not selfless

The idea of a group of fascist states competing with one another would be more likely to succeed though
George Orwell's 1984 might be around the corner

Real Estate / Residential real estate values go down in Poland [455]

You may hate developers, but, someone has to do it

no need to appear defensive

it is a decent profession. what Joe Shmoe in the street fails to realise is the inherant risk involved in developing.

fair play to you for sticking your neck out

without wishing to sound pedantic, the holder of the record was a Polish 'lady' and she held the 'record' until being out gunned for want of a better word by an American 'lady'.

Life / The Adult Entertainment Industry in Poland? [67]

certainly compared to Hungary and The Czech Republic, there is a lot less pûrn made in Poland.

there are notable exceptions of course. The world gang bang champ was a Polish chick.
She must have made her parents very proud with her fine sporting achievements
