Language / Game - guess Polish idioms/sayings in direct English translation [1756]

Give us a clue then Maf :)

If you've seen a bunch of Czech movies (and I lurve Czech movies) the Polish idiom makes no sense.... (French movie or Korean soap opera might be more apt in my particular case, though maybe not for you...)

If you brew your own beer drink it yourself

As you make your bed so must you lie in it...

Not all flour turns into bread

All that glitters....

USA, Canada / Will U.S. Citizens Need A Visa To Visit Poland Starting In 2021 [11]

This is an EU money making opportunity. Nothing more.

My guess is that it's a job creation program. Programs to give employment to otherwise unemployed people fill out every nook and cranny of European bureaucracy and institutions. My institution was involved in one project (creating a large information website) and it was only at the end of almost two years of involvement did I realize it was essentially a job creation as most of the other 'partners' were young educated people who make a living from that type of project (often doing two or three at the same time).

Life / Why does Poland need racial diversity? Opinions [67]

. Racial diversity...and they all live happily ever after

how are they going to to do that when you (presumably want to strip their culture and legal heritage from them)?

Most British people either really don't care that FGM happens in their country (or they avidly support it). Do you want a bunch of little girls' private parts attacked with rusty razors?

Most British people either really don't care that people from some parts of the world like to bring along de facto slaves with them (or see nothing wrong with slavery). Do you really want an invisible slave class in Poland?

Most British people either really don't care that people from some countries are prone to see children as possessed by evil spirits that must be exorcised by horrific physical abuse (or think that's the right and honorable thing to do) Do you really want children being abused to rid them of evil spirits in Poland?

The only way to prevent that is to allow racially diverse people and to be draconian in depriving them of their traditional culture. Are you up to that?

such as keeping outdoor areas clean or behaving with respect towards others, yet they're essential when it comes to quality of life.

they certainly help, and things are better now that 10-15 years ago in terms of things like litter... and manners have also greatly improved (in general with irritating exceptions.... that reflect back to previous norms)

I went to Belarus last summer, and it was remarkable just how clean everything was

So? The PRL was in many ways cleaner than late 90s Poland... that didn't make it a better place to live...

Life / Why does Poland need racial diversity? Opinions [67]

IQ tests are not a reliable measure by any account,

they're pretty good at predicting life success in the US.... (and while I think a bunch of country scores are probably distorted and too low... the scores correlate pretty well with prosperity and civic values).

Asian culture is orientated heavily towards test-taking and not on real world abilities

Success in the modern world correlates strongly with test-taking ability...

Diversity teaches tolerance

Not what the research says.... the question is do you want diversity (which includes living around people with fundamentally different values from you with no common frame of reference) or just a color-coordinated monoculture?

Real diversity means tolerating fundamentally non-western values (like belief in witchcraft and he necessity of child exorcisms and polygyny and female genital mutilation or forced gavage or strict gender segregation or de facto slavery).

Do you really want that in Poland or do you want a broader color range of culturally Polish people?

Be honest about what you want and how you expect to get it...

Staying with the bovine theme, what about "to punch/strike a bull"? synonyms include to 'shoot a bull' or 'make a bull' but the first was more common in one google test I did while 'shoot a bull' was more common in another....

hint: nothing to do with the (US?) expression 'to shoot the bull'

Life / Polish women fight for their rights - manifa and other events [306]

I'm sure you're well versed in degeneracy...

All the better to avoid it in real life, doncha know. It's been invaluable in recognizing spurious and mistaken ideas ever since (especially the kind of foolishness you fall for hook, line and sinker, again and again...)

So you insult people calling them 'normal' aka normie

Normie refers to people who don't know much beyond their own mundane affairs and who tend to react... irrationally when exposed to things from beyond their horizons... Most people are normies and that's fine but I've always wanted to know how the world works and that means looking into some pretty dark corners.

not looking up sex dolls makes me normal

Sad little normie. Back in the day, the internet was full of portals that aggregated deviant and/or disturbing content for the curious to browse... (portal of evil comes to mind). I know about lots of weird and deviant things that people get up to because I'm not a normie. You have the normie idea that knowing about something means approval... I also know what furries and vores are (and lots of even more disturbing things).

Just keep posting your neo-nazi stuff and imagining yourself an edgelord....

All Ukrainians were their hair like these pictures. No exceptions. Ever.

maybe Maf, but it's hard to reclaim a word that was invented as an insult....

Originally in the US Chicano (Americans of Mexican ancestry) was a racial insult close to the N-word in force. Chicanos did the work to turn it into a term of pride.

IINM Schwul (gay) was insulting term in Germany until it was reclaimed and became neutral...

women don't have penises, can have you arrested for 'hate crime'?

That's what you get for not having a constitution with a guarantee that the government can't interfere in freedom of expression...

thing is, 'TERF' is used as an insult by the trans brigade...

Time to turn into a badge of pride! (as has often been done in the past)

TERFs of the world unite, you have nothing to lose but burly men creeping around in womens spaces!

Dirk, you CANNOT start kidnapping

Fantasies of murder and kidnapping, who know what else is going on that stunted little psyche... what did his parents do to him? Clearly something unspeakable....

weird fekcers who want to be fake women?

A fellow TERF?!? I don't buy the whole radfem line but they are absolutely on the money when it comes to 'trans' issues. I have nothing against adults who want to become the other gender and pursue a longterm medical strategy but I'm absolutely against men putting on a dress, taking a couple of hormones and wanting everyone to pretend they're women..

Recently got an email from my employer outlining the institution's attitude toward 'transpłciowi'... which I haven't actually read yet.

the old terminology was better

transvestite - recreational dressing in the clothes of the other gender (with or without active fantasizing about being the other gender)
transsexual - a person under medical care to undergo gender reassignment surgery (or a person after such surgery)
transgender - a person who mimics the social roles of the other gender on a full time basis but with no surgical modifications... below the equator

lumping them altogether as 'trans' is, like most PC terminology, meant to promote ignorance

History / Cursed soldiers controvercy - not all Poles respect them [320]

Who cares about ukry-ies?

Well, for one they're a lot more valuable to Poland these days than you are....

they have their genocidal squads and cowards serving a racist, Nazi ideology.

Kremlin talking point

I think that's an American usage Lyzko. In British English, aggressive has three meanings but is generally used to indicate hostility and belligerence

Reforming 'aggressive' into a partially positive word came from the world of business (in the US largely modeled on American football where physical aggression is a quality of good players). A lot of the time it's now used when 'assertive' might be better.
