History / Whom do the people in Poland hate more: Germans or Russians? [871]

1. Mostly not
2. Is Western Europe trying to weaken Russia? Weaken the current government.
3. How do you know what the Russians "wish"? Gueswork

Let's look at track records, Russia has never done one single thing that was to Poland's benefit. Why would that start to change now?

Russia is now actively trying to undermine Polish democracy and impose its own version

Yes, given that 'it's own version is a kleptocratic autocracy backed up by occasional killings of civilians who are insufficiently appreciative of the tsar's goodness (he only whips them when they deserve it)

Russia is also preventing .

Not yet, but not for want of help of non-Polish paid trolls (take a bow, Rich!)

gets real close to the Russia's doorstep

Damn straight. It's impossible to be polite to the Russian government. You step on their toes until they apologize for putting their foot under yours. They are a half-step away from total savagery (not the placid sheep like population, the rapacious kleptocratic tinfoil dictators and concrete military).

Russia has not done a single positive thing for any country (that wasn't cancelled out by later Russian actions) in.... forever.

Life / Polish and Czechs [191]

What I've heard (from a couple of different Slovaks) is that Slovaks still understand Czech (when I've been in hotels there at least 50% of the TV channels were Czech and newstands display Czech and Slovak magazines and newspapers together) but Czechs are losing their ability to understand Slovak. When it was one country there was always a Slovak presence on state radio and TV and now in Czech it's all Czech all the time.

Life / Americanization of Poland - good or bad? [49]

From Chicago Tribune

See that's your problem, not being Polish you're relying on third hand information (repeating old stereotypes) that's completely wrong and trying to pass as native. What a silly, old, unconvincing fraud you are (see? no Pan!)

Law / Poland's citizenship by descent question. Polish great-great grandfather arrived in the USA as a kid. [76]

the constitution state that there is a right to live abroad

Applies to citizens which you're not. I understand that you enjoy complaining about how your rights are being violated more than you would enjoy actually moving to Poland in order to get citizenship but.... boy, is it tiresome.

You're not a citizen and have no way to bully the authorities into making you one. If you can prove some connection you could move to Poland and obtain citizenship if you really wanted it. If you're not doing that it's because you don't want to be a Polish citizen.

Life / Why is circumcision not practiced in Poland? [701]

genital mutilation on children is, frankly speaking, child abuse

IIRC surveys among those who deal with the business end of male members (straight women, gay men) show a strong preference for circumcision (and apparently women report achieving climax more with circumsized men).

News / Poland's economics and education against the background of the world [27]

The large pool of low cost labour is imported in most countries, who then work their way up the social ladder.

In theory, yes. In practice, not always. Third generation Mexican Americans have worse education and economic outcomes than do the first generation. What are the statistics of third and fourth generation Middle Easterners and North Africans brought to Europe to be cheap labor?

. The model works so long as there is continued growth and cheap labour available somewhere in the world that you have access to.

What's the steady state end game?

by contuinually importing people who will work for low wages

neoliberalism can only exist with some large group of people being cosisgned to the 'low cost labor' bin, neoliberals are very enthusiastic about low cost labor (but somehow don't want to be that themselves)

News / Do we finally see that Russia doing something positive for Poland, by successfully resisting to EU ? [57]

Many Brits that voted for BREXIT had a problem with East Europeans, and not so much with Merkel's friends.

More fools them.

They were promised border controls, but somebody forgot to tell them

that the neoliberal consensus absolutely depends on a large pool of interchangeable disposable worker bees who don't have much rights...

this is where democracy dies - when all major parties agree with each other and against the citizenry

News / Poland has accepted over a million Ukrainian refugees. Why does the EU keep telling propaganda about Poland? [304]

So when I say that 20,000 in Katyn is a drop in a bucket

More Kremlin party line. The standard Russian response to Katyn (or the Holodomor) is essentially "Hey, the Russian government killed even more people (some other example) so who cares? The Russian government kills lots of people. What are you gonna do? Nothing, we just have to accept it"

If you were once Polish, now you're Russian Zdravstvujte!

I find it quite funny that back in the day you could exchange lil paper stamp for vodka and cigarettes.

Actually, no, you couldn't. The idea was that you had to pay for the money but you couldn't buy more than the rationing system let you. You presented the ration card and paid and the store kept both. No more ration cards and you couldn't buy in state run stores no matter how much money you had, you had to go to the private market which was much more expensive.

Serbians wants normal relations between Poland and Russia

Not gonna happen unless Russia starts being a normal country rather than a kleptocratic dictatorship that's intent on looting its neighbors. If the Russian state is "Slavic" then decent honest people will want nothing to do with "Slavdom" (a topic of vanishing little interest to most Poles anyway).

The real problem is that Serbia refuses normal relations with Turkey, Balkan brati united by a former empire, if Serbia just allied with Turkey then it would serve Polish interests!

there was no referendum for secession of Kosovo

there was no referendum (that met any kind of standards of international law or simple human decency) in Crimea. the tendency of Russia to break agreements and its unremitting hostility to those around it mean it and Poland can never be allies unless it massively changes.

Sorry Srbija no Polish-Russian alliance for you!
