You already had the EU. Before the war EU's core, with Germany at the forefront, was eating out of your hand. All you had to do was calm Poland's fears and somehow include her (i.e. Central Europe) in your plans, and the alliance of sorts was quite possible. However, and perhaps to some extent understandably, Russia never treated Poland as a serious player. You saw us in a similar way as we saw Samo... erm, Lithuania, and that fueled firstly a moderate Russophobia and secondly a distrust of Germany (Nord Stream, talking to Russia over our heads). The war helped Americans to push Russia out of Europe in both economic and political terms and I can't see how this might realistically change in the foreseeable future.

So, all things considered, Putin - as brilliant, psychopathic and honourable as he is - made a mistake with his Ukrainian affair. A terrible mistake.


But you support AfD, Le Pen and Orban - forces that actively oppose centralization of the EU. 5D chess?

In Poland we see Yeltsin differently than most Russian politicians. It is a figure we think of with a lot of sympathy.

Most simple people believe that Wałęsa drank him into agreeing to withdraw Soviet troops from Poland and giving permission for Poland to join NATO. Not true, of course, but a lovely Slavic legend.

I will say one thing on this topic: if a real war (not a sad circus like the one in Ukraine) plagues the world in the future, and the fate of countries, nations and the world hangs on a very thin thread once again... it would be criminal, unforgivable and tragic if Slavic nations fought against one another. There is not that many (and fewer every year) of us remaining in this world, let's not slaughter our dear Mother Slavia with our own dirty and sinful hands. Maybe we still have enough of what Paulina calls "moral spine" not to let that happen? Here's hoping.

From your description dobri brat Vladimir sounds like a proper statesman, villain, psychopath and genius. Perhaps not the easiest combination of traits to deal with but, as late Pope Francis used to say, who are we to judge?

You made several very good points about the system of power in Russia being built on Putin and about the understanding between different camps of power. We used to have something similar in Poland not that long ago (wy nie ruszacie naszych, my nie ruszamy waszych) but it changed with Tusk's return to power in 2023 when he started to act a bit like a rabid dog.

One way or another, as good strategists (amateur but still), we have to remain vigilant and open for different variants of future events, without presupposed answers and solutions, prejudices and hatred in our hearts.

But having a commonsensical, centrist, down-to-earth, moderate element in a rightist, Eurosceptical PiS-Konfederacja government is essential for the greater good of Poland. It will introduce some much needed balance as well as allow PSL to veto the more extremist ideas of Kaczyński and Mentzen. Without PSL they will have no majority, so they will have to take our wise, balanced voice into account. A win-win situation.

Besides, Russia can still win the war in Ukraine. PSL, with many members remembering the old Poland-Soviet Union cooperation, will be able to create a thin (but still) thread of understanding between the Polish government and that of His Excellency Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin (a bit of a wild Asian but our Slavic brother nonetheless). Well, politics is not for the faint-hearted, overly honest, or people who think 'spin' is just a washing machine setting.

PSL has been on the Polish political scence since 1895. For comparison, PO and PiS were created in 2001 and Konfederacja in 2018 - political babies. PSL was around long before POPiS and Konfederacja, and it will be around long after nobody even remembers that such parties existed. All for the greater good of Poland, of course. Nie rzucim ziemi skąd nasz ród, Żywią y Bronią, and all that.

As for the future prime minister, there is an internal poll, circulating among members as we speak, in PSL asking whether they would support a government of PiS, Konfederacja and PSL, if Kosiniak-Kamysz were to become a PM in this government. The coming weeks are going to be interesting.

Nonsense. PO is a right party. Lewica in Poland is almost nonexistent (26 MPs out of 460). Besides PSL cooperates with PiS all over Poland on samorząd level. It's the most pragmatic, down-to-earth, centrist party.


Sawicki or Sikorski. Either would do a much better job, and Sawicki would add an extra bonus of being a conservative.


Read it somewhere on paper (either Plus-Minus or Wyborcza) that out of those who voted for Trzecia Droga and Lewica in the parliamentary elections in 2023 (3.1 million and 1.9 million), 1 million stayed at home (that's 20%!) in the 2nd round of presidential elections. If this demobilisation of democratic 2023 electorate hadn't happened, Nawrocki wouldn't have been elected the president.

I will be butthurt if Poland suffers because of Nawrocki. At the moment what happened cannot unhappen, so I am giving him the benefit of the doubt and a credit of trust. Let's see what he does with it.


He went to Nowogrodzka to talk to Kaczyński almost right after being elected. This doesn't look like something an independent president would do. But hey, if he proves me wrong, all the better for Poland.


Because they are a down to the ground, peasant, commonsensical, Christian, centrist party. Poland needs calm, steady growing in power and development, without extremities - either on the left or on the right. Poland needs politicians who can make deals and agree with everyone, depending on the current situation and needs of our country. You ask me about Zandberg and Braun - could Braun make decent, useful for Poland, compromises with everyone as such need arises? Could Zandberg? No, because they are extremists, either towards quasi-fascism or quasi-communism. We don't need that, we don't need extremities; we need to quietly get rich, quietly grow in power, and quietly sharpen our knives (just in case).

A week has passed, I am still a bit angry that Nawrocki is our new president; mostly at Kaczyński for backing this marionette instead of a decent candidate like Jurek, Ryszka or Nowak and for Tusk for not forcing Sikorski as the democratic candidate, but it was more than that... promises broken, the same old PiS-style corruption (despite swearing that it will change), idiotic attacks at the Church. Tusk has to step aside, he f*cked up big time and now has to pay for it.

As for Nawrocki's great victory - he should thank 1 million of voters of Trzecia Droga and Lewica who stayed at home last Sunday. Their voices would give Trzaskowski a comfortable victory (he lost by 370k votes). And let's not forget those leftist 1st round voters of Senszyn (almost 20%), Zandberg, Hołownia and Biejat who voted for Nawrocki in the 2nd round. Perhaps Gajewska's antics with the bag of potatoes pissed them off? Perhaps it was the unashamed kissing the butts of real estate developers by the current government and local authorities?

Oh, well... maybe it's all for the better. Tusk and KO learnt the hard way that stupidity has its price. Maybe it will force them to change their ways. If not, f*ck 'em - it's an old cliché but it's really patria not partia that counts.

Nawrocki won't send Polish army to Ukraine. So, unless Russia invades Poland, there will be no Russian-Polish war anytime soon. That's good for Poland, I suppose.

Never voted for Tusk. The reason I voted for Trzaskowski is that Nawrocki is a bloody embarrassment and nobody will convince me otherwise. The elderly fraud afair - very well documented - would be enough to disqualify him as a person suitable to be the Polish president, and you know very well that there's much more than that. Anywhere N. goes to represent Poland, his hosts will receive a full dossier on him and every time it will be a stain on Poland's honour.

Kaczyński was convinced precisely because he later realised that he will be able to manipulate Nawrocki with all the kompromat on him. The entire secret of Kaczyński's political longevity is his security cabinet where he holds 'haki' on all his men.

Anyways... *yaaaaawn* ... what happened will not unhappen, so there's no use crying over spilt milk. Again, the fact that a guy like Nawrocki will be Poland's president is a major embarrassment and a slap in the face of every decent Pole. Of course, Warsaw's Szambelan wouldn't be perfect either but at least somewhat less embarrassing.
