Language / Is it possible to master the Polish language fluently for a non-Polish speaker? [120]

yes but Maf with such a small sample size you cannot categorise by nationality, it's stupid.
In my experience how good someone is at learning languages is about personality and necessity, Also whether one has a partner who speaks that language. Now obviously all of these things would more have been variables in your tiny sample of nine people than nationality....S:

Genealogy / Why are some Polish people dark complected, and others very light [511]

gosh Carpathian touchy much?LOL
I suggest you concetrate on the here and now instead of wondering if your great great grandad was a Jew or a Gypsy.
and here is a plan - stop posting nonsense about DNA on internet forums. the DNA test is for mitochondrial DNA only.

Life / Will Poland ever be multicultural like Sweden, Germany or France? [201]

Maf to me it means like 'multicultural education' in which festivals and histories from all cultures are celebrated equally.
So as RR said, France could not be said to be multicultural because all the children are taught about 'our ancestors the Gauls' even if they are from eg Algeria.

you are probably thinking of 'multicultural ' in its correct sense. Sadly an awful lot of people who use it clearly do not know what it means, and use it in the meaning of 'lots of immigrants'. I have given up attempting to correct them.

I don't care what women choose to believe in

well that is a shame because all the women in Poland wrote to me and told me they are really concerned about what little tiny Gumishu thinks about this issue. Although they think the world of you, of course.

rule out both abortion and euthanasia.

well that is easy for a single old man to say, after all it is the women who will do the work of looking after disabled children and elders, not you. YOU can spend your time drinking and manifesting your woman hatred, so have fun with that.

why can't a pregnant woman (....) give up the child for adoption if she doesn't feel like or can't raise the child

well IDK but that is how it used to be in the UK until relatively recently.(say 50 years)
I guess it is to do with the de-stigmatisation of single motherhood among other things.
It used to be that there were so many children born out of wedlock that special homes were created where they could be raised to do low class jobs, be abused and punished for their mother's "sins". I am not sure that was a good thing tbh.

And after 6 months or so I'm personally very against abortion

you cannot have an abortion at 6 months and even countries with relatively liberal abortion laws rightly legislate against this.
I suggest that if it is not done in the first trimester then (normally) the woman should go through with it and then be able to give the child up for adoption or foster care.

Language / The "end piece" of a loaf of bread in Polish [80]

I love the way that we can have a lively interesting conversation....but only if it's about cakes...:)
The international language of patisserie!
My favourite cake in Poland was the one that was like a roll with honey and poppy seeds.....lovely!

cake is cáca

really how horrible! in Greek caca means 's.h.i.t' as i am sure you know.

Maf in England a 'tart' would indicate a pastry base with filling and an open or semi open top.
Where I live in Wales now, what they call a 'tart' we would call a 'pie'......(ie closed top)
oh and the end of the loaf would be a 'heel' as well I think.

Tart

this is a tart

what do you think about the quality of life of a person with Down syndrome?

IME, people with Downs vary a lot in their capabilities. Some are quite capable of semi independent living, working and managing their own money. Others require a lifetime of care.

I met a girl once who had Downs (a friends sister) who told me that the only reason she and her sister were born was 'so that they could love each other' which kind of melted my heart a bit.

Also back in the early 80s when such children were routinely institutionalised, a group used to come for riding lessons at the riding school I worked at. They were delightful children for whom horse riding was a fantastic thing to do, for their posture and for their confidence. The afternoon that they came they would come steaming out of their minibus all laughing and shouting and excited. We all had a such a great time.(three helpers each).

So no, I do not agree that a person with Downs does not have the right to live. They are people like the rest of us.

'Debating skills' my Aunt Fanny.

"I am right ! You are wrong! "
Iron has the debating skills of a first year undergraduate at one of the lesser universities.

I respectfully suggest that it might have to do more with the liquids you imbibe than anything else, 'young woman'.

Ironside FYI i do not drink. And as you know I am 51.
Dismissing a woman's arguments with suggestions that she is an alcoholic or comments about her age is just...sad.
I think you might be losing the plot tbh

oh stop being such a patronising old twat Ironside, if you can. Yes Lenka knows how to argue and has made points that you have dismissed rather than addressing.

Old men telling women what to do with their bodies make me feel sick.

Work / Poland Work Permit / Study Visa Processing Times [191]

If I receive the visa and I go to Poland to study, and my visa expires while I'm in Poland. Can I renew my visa while I'm still in Poland ???

i should think that the visa will not run out during your study period, it probably expires when your course ends. At that point you would have to go back to the UAE. What is the problem? or were you thinking a student visa meant you could stay forever?

OK so that mean amniocentisis.
Scans would still be allowed but if anything wrong is spotted then there can be no further investigation?
that is my understanding of it.
