Poles' protest in Lithuania. They do not agree with the government's plans

One thousand Poles protested in Vilnius against plans to limit the teaching of the Polish language in schools there. The Union of Poles in Lithuania described the reform as "radical". The Ministry of Education, Science and Sport said that it had not yet presented any proposal, but had only started a debate. - There are ongoing discussions about the need to conduct more classes in Lithuanian - explained Minister Gintautas Jakštas.

The campaign to defend the teaching of the Polish language in Polish schools in Lithuania was carried out on Saturday. The most important organizations bringing together the Polish minority were involved in the protest, including: parliamentary representatives from the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania - Union of Christian Families. Those gathered gathered on the streets of Vilnius. They walked from the Lithuanian Parliament building on Independence Square to the square next to the Presidential Palace, where the rally took place. Polish and Lithuanian flags waved in the crowd . There were also numerous banners and banners . "All languages are beautiful, the native one is the most beautiful," one of them said.

Representatives of the Polish community described the changes proposed by the government as "radical". The idea is to limit the teaching of national minority languages in schools in favor of the Lithuanian language. The Union of Poles in Lithuania issued a statement expressing its concerns. According to the organization's members, the government wants to create a situation where teaching the minority language will only be optional . The decision is to be made by the school board.

One of the protesting Polish women pointed out that a student of a Polish school has the right to receive education in his native language. - It seems funny to me . If we are in a Polish school, Polish should be taught there until the 12th grade. If someone wants to learn in Lithuanian, they go to a Lithuanian school, she said, quoted by LRT.The Ministry of Education, Science and Sport also commented on the matter. The ministry rejected the protesters' allegations and said that no changes had been prepared yet. Minister Gintautas Jakštas noted that the government "has no intention of closing schools in the languages of national communities, and the learning conditions will not deteriorate either."

Something that leads to overuse among non-natives

No worry. Polish students don`t care about the irritation aspect of Present Continuous tense. 98% of them make mistakes when confronted with it in exam papers. :):):)

So do Polish teachers of English not care about it. The last time I used this aspect in the forum was 5 years ago. hahahahaha

As for Punk Rock, you are obviously a tasteless pleb!

Mongrel, why are you so unstable?? You disparaged excellent Polish punk music before. Go back to your London sewers and discuss music with your friends rats, not decent forum members like maf.

History / What should Russia and Poland do to become if not friends, then at least not enemies? [945]

Most interviewed Russian passers-by believe it would be a good idea to invade Poland, but one or two had a different opinion.

Decent Russians also contribute in comments:

I am from Russia, and I feel so much shame watching this video. I can only hope that this doesn't represent the entire nation. At least it doesn't represent the views of my own "bubble" - 99% of people I know would never ever say something like this.

As a Russian, I am really ashamed of the citizens of my country. It's ******* awful to see answers like that

And a very intelligent comment which sums the Russian street interviews up:

@rmmartins133

Amazing the difference on the answers between the young and the old. Also even more amazing how you can sense that the young people are terrified of speaking their actual opinions, they find very intelligent ways to say they are against the war without compromising themselves in fear of being hunted. What a situation to be in, in 2024.

And another comment by a guy whom I could call my soul mate and with whom I fully agree:

@Radonatorr

As a Polish person, who strongly dislikes Russia as a state for historical and political reasons but has a soft spot for Russians as people (I truly enjoyed drinking with them many times and have met some wonderful friends from there), seeing the level of hate and imperialist entitlement some Russians have for Poland, I am convinced that we are doing God's work by supporting Ukraine and that our current staunchly anti-Russian political line is absolutely correct.

move quickly

Exactly, but a little too late after I revealed the meaning. :):):):
However, you can still reveal your intelligence by answering my question above: Why do bees pollinate quickly??? Of course, I don`t mean vulgar competition for pollen etc. That would be too trivial. Go deeper than that. :):):)

History / What should Russia and Poland do to become if not friends, then at least not enemies? [945]

Yes, but those cars could have been owned by decent Muscovites who don`t support Putin and his war.

Talking about decent Russians again.

Here is a video in which Russians are asked if Poland should become the next target of Russian aggression after Ukraine/Baltics. Very educational stuff, with English subtitles. Most interviewed Russian passers-by believe it would be a good idea to invade Poland, but one or two had a different opinion. Those are decent Russians I mean. Pity there are so few of them.

What does Polish idiomatic pollinate mean??

PS. I won`t torment you with this one - I just checked the online Polish dictionary and there is no such idiom - pollinate or zapylać meant rush, hurry, speed etc when I was a boy a few decades ago. Amasing!

Life / Polish film and serial riddles [137]

Wow! I am thrilled you have still remembered this thread and riddle! :):) You are simply am..... unbelievable! :):):):)

Yes, that actor plays a doctor unjustly accused of euthanising a patient. The series was titled Circulation System. I watched it on TV in late 1970s first, then I read the book based on the script. Good reading, containing a lot of words of wisdom. E.g. Males like easy women. However, they prefer to marry the decent ones. :):):)

Thanks for bringing those memories! :):):)

pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uk%C5%82ad_kr%C4%85%C5%BCenia_(serial_telewizyjny)

The protagonist of the series, widower Dr. Bognar, is wrongly accused of euthanasia and deprived of the right to practice medicine. Unable to stand inaction, he conducts an investigation on his own. He finds a clue and has to change his locations while looking for the culprit. He works as a nurse, a hygienist at a technical school, and even helps a herbalist in the countryside. He excludes the suspects one by one, and at the same time learns about the conditions in which doctors work outside the hospital he was in before.

History / Pol-Shorpy Photo Thread [950]

The first capital of Poland, Gniezno,

We visited it once. We checked into the Cathedral to see the silver statue of St Adalbert who had been stolen by burglars in 1980s and melted. The new statue is a replica. That robbery made headlines decades ago - some journalist called it the most audacious theft of communist Poland.

On the night of March 19-20, 1986, there was a burglary, during which the thieves used crowbars and saw blades to tear out and cut out the decorations, devastating the whole work of art. They stole the silver figure of Saint Adalbert from the sarcophagus as well as a bishop's crosier, a silver pillow and three angels. They also broke the wings of six eagles. They tore off a piece of silver sheet metal from the lid of the coffin. They were captured in Gdańsk , but the silver had been melted down
