Food / What do non-Poles think about eating the following Polish foods? [1450]

in the urban parts of the north it used to be almost a religion

I get that. My mother was a northerner and watched it religiously for years.

I don't remember Ida Clough but Ivy Tilsley and Percy Sugden definitely yes. Where you lived was obviously popular with cast members!

That was a sensation.

Wasn't it just! I can remember seeing people wearing T-shirts with that slogan. I don't think anyone expected the storyline to become that huge!

I love them in a version of leczo

I hadn't heard of this but after looking at the recipe link I've been eating something similar for years. Minus the courgettes! Maybe I'll add them next time.

zucchini patties

I would definitely give those a try.

History / 20 years of Poland in the EU. [314]

Tethered caps

Haven't seen them yet but then I don't drink anything out of bottles......

but now there's a huge building site.

I was staying in Alexanderplatz earlier this month. There were massive cranes everywhere!

great kebabs

I have to say the kebabs I had in Berlin were probably the best I've tasted.

I hear about a knife crime happening very often.

Me too. The worrying thing to me is that the attackers are often teenagers.

Deirdre Hunt/Langton/Barlow/Rashid/Barlow's stuffed marrows on Corrie were famously bad

I've watched Corrie on and off for years but I don't remember her stuffed marrows! I'd forgotten all her surnames too! Fair play, you've got a good memory. I remember the 'Free the Weatherfield One' campaign though.

That and pumpkins plus all sorts of squash. Every day for four years.

That sounds dire :(

Fried with garlic sound great, though

They take up the flavour really well as they're quite a bland vegetable.

Courgettes is French

I was talking about the word Zucchini which is from Italian Zucchina. I know courgette is French, we just call them that over here :)

Calamari? Like eating rubber bands.

That's my experience too. Very hit and miss as to how it's served.

stuffed zuchhinis

It's an Italian word but I always associate it with the American term for what we call courgettes.

marrows.

Don't remember ever trying them. I do like courgettes though. Nice gently fried in garlic butter.

Paper apples

I didn't know what these were so I read up on them. You might find this interesting:

I already told you - sultanas are raisins to 90% Poles and Polesses.

Jesteś uparty jak osioł. I am not Polish though!!!!!! Nor am I a mind reader :)

None. I would do exactly the same but when it comes to a non-Pole like me trying to guess ingredients for recipes, I am going on the fact that sultanas are not mentioned in Polish cuisine. Even if they are big raisins :)

raisins soaked in milk.

maf suggested raisins in post #75 earlier so I disregarded them and chose sultanas instead.

that`s bad coz I wanted to asked about it next.

I can think of dishes with raisins but not sultanas. Usually Xmas or Easter though. Jewish carp/Babka/Kutia/Chalka

They look like sultanas to me but I can't think of a single Polish dish that uses them. I also thought of prunes but they're much bigger than what's in the dish.

A gardener/farmer puts seedlings on display for passing drivers to stop and buy.

That was the part I thought was so obvious that I presumed the riddle had to be something else.

it is the time to plant seedlings!!!

On one particular day? Weird.

But the number plate isn't shown in the original pic of the van. You only gave the reg number in post #450. If I'd seen the flag sign of course I'd have known it was a Scottish plate.

That's an older model 2012 van and the MA it starts with in the reg corresponds to Manchester/Merseyside.

Only clove - two pieces per pot.

That's all? I'm surprised you can taste it in a large pot of fruit and water.

So what is this whole display for??

No idea. Presumably you can buy the plants but the date has no particular significance I can think of.

You are still not sure after reading the plate?

How can I tell? There is nothing in that plate to tell it's from Scotland.

@pawian white objects???

I can barely see them but are they pieces of plastic showing the varieties of the particular plant available?
