Life / SOME OBSERVATIONS ABOUT POLAND AND POLISH SOCIETY [297]

this whole thread is trully embarrasing. Really, no foreigners are allowed to point out any areas for improvements after visiting Poland? And your valiant defence consists of, not intelligent contra-arguments, but that it's worse where you came from, and, if you don't like it, get out? How insecure can we be?

And while you think you are defending Poland, there is not much anyone can say that will damage its reputation as much as statements like this, and I quote:

"You see, we - white people, are generous and we reach out our hands and pull you
out of sh*it (literally). Where's your gratitude, puny third-worlder?"

History / Why Poles love Russia [105]

USA, Canada / Are there any Polish people in Florida? [311]

I'm next to Melbourne, beachside. We have a Polish restaurant and a European deli, but not much else, as far as Polish culture goes. Maybe Orlando has more, I don't know, I only go there to the airport.

Which school do you go to? What is your major? In which part of town are you going to live?

Life / Birthday traditions in Poland [30]

To me, one of the nicest Polish traditions is celebrating namedays, not birthdays.

History / The Two Saddest Nations on Earth... Poles and Jews [243]

Is Rafał Betlejewski a provocator?

I like it!

Żyd seems to me such an ugly word... is that perseption changing in Poland, or new words are being tried in its place?

History / The Two Saddest Nations on Earth... Poles and Jews [243]

-The Two Saddest Nations on Earth... Poles and Jews;
To all those making a fuss about the title, meaning that you don't understand that it's not being used literally, then my only advice is not either learn English or abandon using it completely.

Huh?? And what does this say about somebody who can't understand why others might object to this cheap, sensationalistic title?

I can't bring myself to even read this, after that stupid title.
Saddest nations??
Are Jews a nation?
Really, saddest nations? Sadder that ummm.. Somalia, Afghanistan, Chechnya? Really??

Love / Ten things to remember when you have a Polish girlfriend [79]

How about 10 things to remember if you ARE a Polish girlfriend?
I can think of one right away: anything you are better at then he is, you might want to pretend it is an accident. If you can't do that, have a list in mind to remind him of all the things he can do better.

History / Why Poles love Russia [105]

Poland produced some a$$holes as well. Hopefully, the rest of the world does not judge the whole nation by them.
Plus, I figured Russians got theirs during Holodomor. So I call it even.

History / Why Poles love Russia [105]

I think that many Polish people feel that the lot of an average russian citizen was probably worse than that of a Pole. They had a common enemy.

I wish all the russophobes stopped keeping the hate alive.

Love / Are Polish still very traditional when it comes to relationships? [31]

He is talking about the reality that most men earn a fair bit more but there is a 50-50 presumption

that is true, but I have noticed that good men are not comfortable when their gf or wife makes more money than they do. The users, yes, they have no problem with it, but most men prefer to be the main bread winners.

Love / Are Polish still very traditional when it comes to relationships? [31]

All true. But you can have all the ceremonies you like! Declare her love to her in front of the whole world! Just don't be stupid enough to sign a legal paper that essentially says that you'll love her forever. Noone can promise this.

It just boggles my mind how many people base their self-worth on some government certifying their union.

lacks the spinal core and a nut or two

And Socrates, it usually is easier to blindly follow the traditions than to question them.
Your awesome parents would probably have been much more awesome without the institution of marriage.

Life / Smoking vs. Grilling on Balconies / High Rises in Poland [66]

My girlfriend says that people in Kraków view grilling on a balcony as being done only by villagers, not 'sophisticated' city folk such as us.

not just in Krakow. Many villagers, once they move to the city, go through great lengths to rid themselves of any signs of "country". One of the biggest insults is to be "ze wsi" - from a village.

News / Polish President Lech Kaczynski and gov officials die in a plane crash in Russia [686]

Kaczynski forced the pilot to land. Kaczynski, in this way, killed all the peopple on board.

Oh, please. The pilot was well aware that he'll probably get a medal, like the last pilot who went against Kaczynski's order, if he diverts. Passangers can rant and rave all they want, but the final resposibility is with the pilot, and he will not try to land unless he thinks he can.

One good thing is going to come out of this: Russia is going to get serious about investing in their SBAS GPS.

Everyone assumes the pilot wanted to divert, and someone, most assume the President, pressured him otherwise. There are other possibilities as well. There are pilots, and I'm not saying this was one, that do not need that much encouragement for a chance to display their courage and abilities.

USA, Canada / Are there any Polish people in Florida? [311]

and brought in the blues rock band Dzem two years ago for a concert in Sarasota, which was outstanding, even though it was unfortunately poorly attended.

I would have loved to see them, and brought people, had I known! Oh, I can't believe they were here!
Do you have a website, or newsletter I can check out? I'm in Cocoa Beach, not that far.
