Life / Poland vs Hungary for an expat? [41]

Hungary fared far better under their brand of "gulyas-communism" than most of Europe

Absolutely, but it reminds me of the old Communist days joke of the Polish and Hungarian dogs meeting half way between their countries.
The Polish dog asked why The Hungarian dog was going to Poland.
"To Eat" was his reply.
So then the Hungarian dog asked the Polish dog why he was going to Hungary.
He replied.
"To bark".

If you are talking about Christopher Steele and Orbis Business Intelligence, this is a private, money making intelligence agency that happens to be British.
Nothing to do with MI6(Although he was an MI6 officer, he retired 10 years ago) and nothing to do with the British Government.
That is not the same thing as saying.

the UK helping Hillary

and the UK helping Hillary

I didn't see that in The Mueller Report.
Who in The UK?

As for intervention in elections the worst offender is The USA, closely followed by Russia.

Life / Poland vs Hungary for an expat? [41]

I like both cultures

So do I.
But as a Polish speaker I would always choose Poland over Hungary.
Much as I love Hungarians, their culture, their history and especially their cuisine, their language kills it for me.....

Life / Tap Water quality in Poland [44]

I believe the water in Poland is unsafe

In many parts of Poland tap water tastes like sh*t.
But it won't make you sick.
I would recommend drinking bottled water, but if you are desperate, do not be afraid of a Polish tap.

History / Do Polish people in general dislike Russia or Germany more? [369]

Pure speculation.
Just as with Russia, nothing can be proved.
But why are you defending such a failure of a country as Russia?
Outside of Moscow, St.Petersburg and a handful of tiny enclaves it is virtually a third world country on the edge of Europe.
Many parts of Russia are no better off than Belarus.
I have an engineer friend who spent most of his working life on projects in Africa.
He got a 3 month contract for a job in Minsk,Belarus.
On his return,he was shocked...he told me it was like "a white africa in europe".
Russia is not much better.
Your support of Russia is as hypocritical as Jeremy Corbyn's support for Venezuela.

Brits, on the other hand, tried to help Hillary

That is a sweeping statement.
Which Brits?
And which Brits didn't try to help her?
Back to RT, you see, I can listen to or watch The BBC in full knowledge of their bias and decode the real news.
Just as you can with The American news outlets.
What neither of us can do is know or predict or decode what RT are trying to do.
They are much more sophisticated than the old days of Radio Moscow, where farm quotas and tractor production levels would send you to sleep......and even those were lies.

This is why they are untrustworthy and dangerous.

No, it's not. The who*res at CNN and MSNBC serve their leftist masters

Just as the who*res at RT do!
Many of them American!

History / The memory about the Invasion of Poland 1939 - today's events [26]

All ruling elites re-write history to cover their blunders

My family were not "ruling elites", they told me as it was, the good and the bad.
The Polish history I have read in the last 40 years backs them up.
That history was not written by ruling elites, in fact, some of it wasn't even written by Poles.
Ever heard of Norman Davies?
Read his history of Poland.

The correct spelling is color, honor, and program

I don't have a problem with English adopting more simplified spellings as it will make it even easier for foreigners to learn.
The point that you seem to be missing is that the language is called English, not American.

I will trust RT TV before I will trust the following

More fool you.
RT is at least as bad as all those you listed.

moved from

September 1st 1939........ 80 years ago today.
An important date in Polish history.

Eighty years ago today.
Very few survive to tell the tale.
But it must be repeated,so that people remember......

So funny! RT.com went all the way to the US for the correct spelling

That is exactly why RT should never be trusted.
They can't even spell English properly.....
Remember, RT TV is what used to be Radio Moscow..... that well trusted broadcaster......LOL!

History / Do Polish people in general dislike Russia or Germany more? [369]

Sticking to the question posed as the title of the thread, it is without question, The Russians.
Germany ocuppied, suppressed and murdered Poles for five years,Russians did the same for over forty years.
No contest.

The US pronunciation is effortless

No it's not.
I and many others struggle to speak in that English "Country bumpkin" accent that came from The west country, East Anglia and maybe from Ireland too.It is essentially the accent of peasants.

The US English is winning because this is where the money is for the singers, actors, and the writers

Not sure I agree with that.
Australian,New Zeeland,Irish,Scottish,Welsh and English accents all have their place.
I think many people are getting bored with the overkill of American English from TV and Movies.
In China, the fastest growing and largest population learning English, they are learning English English.

She got the tip of the iceberg as though she were an American, yet missed the subtlety of the joke by a country mile

Sorry mate, but so did I.
Your English is excellent, but so American that I struggle to understand you at times.
I don't have that problem with Joker,Johnny,Rich or Dirk.
Why is that?

English is simply a tool to communicate with someone who doesn't speak your language

Spot on, Lyzko just doesn't get this......

human language is being trampled upon twenty-four-seven, guess I go a bit bonkers every now and then

Yes, I think you take it too seriously.
Language is just a form of communication and evolves constantly.

why forgive a growing societal trend which murders our mother tongue on a daily basis

Because I hear it every day.
From Poles,Romanians,Bulgarians,Portuguese,Sri Lankans,Indians and the rest!
Yeah, it does **** me off sometimes, but in the main, we understand each other.
Isn't communication the most important thing here?
And why English has been such a success?

Milo, do you want a workman to hang your paintings crooked

I just don't even see the point you are trying and failing to make.
English is a very forgiving language, probably the most forgiving, which is why it has been so successful.
Bad English works!!!
Bad French and Polish do not work.....German is more like English.....

The bulk of Europeans, particularly younger Europeans, use English in a sloppy manner.

Not always true, but even if it was, so what?
English rules..... no competition...... :-)

The language of Shakespeare has become a cesspool

Not at all.
It is precisely why English has superceded all other languages.
It is easy to learn, very forgiving in how you can express yourself, even incorrectly, and still be understood and evolves......
No other language can compete.
