Each to their own tastes.... I hate herring whichever way you prepare it.
My families method, I think, was doused in oil and vinegar and served with raw slices of onion.
I still enjoy raw onion, but the fish makes me want to throw up......

This is true.
British food has a few gems and is pefectly edible, I think that Polish cuisine is on a par with British.
Maybe slightly better, but not much.
Look at North European cuisine.... Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England, Norway, Sweden. Finland, Estonia,Latvia, Lithuania, Poland.....bland, bland, bland......
Go to Hungary, the former Yugoslavia, Greece, Spain and Italy and it is more exciting cuisine..

Yeah, the cities are better,but some of the "ethnic" restaurants are really naff, compared to other european cities..... a few are pretty good, I will admit, but not that many Poles eating there.

Yes, but it is true of most Poles that they are not very interested in foreign cuisine.
Poles are like Brits in the fifties.... not very experimental.... it will change over time...

That may be true, but Poland is getting very close to becoming a net contributor to The EU... and if they then push for even more central control and federalism, I don't think that will play out well with Polish people.

This is the main problem with Polish tastes.
They are like Britain in the 1950's..... not interested in trying anything new and quite happy to eat bland boiled potatoes as long as they have a bit of dill sprinkled on them..... time to hit the 21st century Poland.... at least we are educating the Poles in the UK, most of them have grown to love Indian cuisine ( Which has been adopted as part of British cuisine now).

When my kids reached their late twenties I pointed out to them that I left home when I was 21 and their mum did too.
They got the message, within a year they were both gone and have since thanked me for it.

It's not just the Poles. It's all Europeans.
We just do not have the American knowledge and love of guns that you Americans have.
We don't see the need for them.
But as I said in a different thread, life in America is not like life in Europe and we have a different mentality on this subject.

This subject will only continue to divide Europe and America forever.
Which is why I continue to have an open mind.

The gun debate is futile because Americans and Europeans have a different mind set when it comes to guns.
I understand both arguments and see validity in both.
But what it boils down to is that most Americans feel they need guns to protect themselves and most Europeans don't.
When I was a young man I got myself into a few potentially dangerous situations.
I never felt that I needed a gun to sort it.
Maybe it is different in America.
I have an open mind on the subject.

Your written English is perfect and better than some native English speakers on here.
But I bet that when you speak English, like when I speak Polish, you have an accent....
The closest I get to hiding my accent is when I speak French.
People will not believe I am English but suggest that I must be Belgian or Alsacien.
None of us can fully lose our accents...... :-(

No, integration is not going well but please do not tarnish Britain with your false stats.
Britain currently has an unemployment rate of 3.8% and a Muslim population of 5%.
So even if your stats are correct, and I doubt that, assuming that all the unemployed are Muslim, again very doubtful... then 1.2 % of the Muslim population are working.

Nearly a third of them..... I don't disagree with you that some Muslims are a problem, but you have got your stats wrong.
And even if they were right, this is not exactly the huge problem that you like to pretend it is.

JR has a point though, it does get very cold out in the sticks where he is, but I suspect it in not that much warmer where Rich, Dirk and Joker live.

So guys, tell us what your heating bill is in January.
I am very lucky, my house is EXTREMELY well insulated, three of the bedrooms are not used so the radiators are off, the heating is switched off at night and this winter London has, so far not gone below zero.

But I still think JR is using a very dumb and expensive way to heat his home.

But this is my point Rich, you made the effort to learn English because you felt you had to.
So much so that you now reject your mother tongue..... there are not many Brits or Yanks that would do that the other way round with,say, French or German.
