News / Referendum to decide about exotic immigrants in Poland [549]

They haven't finished yet and the second round may well be different.

Thankfully it was.

We can see the power of your political fortune telling..

Not for the first time has he been proved wrong.

Life / Famous / Iconic Polish Women [48]

Simona Kossak

I was reading about her only today. I would love to live how she did. This is a nice article about her:

With you in mind, sweating over this riddle. :):):)

Nah, that riddle wasn't as difficult as some you've set :)

News / What will Britain's Labor Coup mean for Poland? [100]

But it will get MUCH worse under our new Socialist government.

How exactly? The Rwanda plan was phenomenally expensive and the numbers of migrants they planned to export per year was less than the daily arrivals by boat. It wasn't a plan it was an absolute joke. To date, no-one has come up with a credible solution. The Tories even managed to lose 17000 asylum seekers whose claims had been withdrawn on their watch and no-one has any idea where they are!

It's excellent news.

Amen.

News / Coronavirus in Poland - part 2 [473]

News / Coronavirus in Poland - part 2 [473]

I suspect some of them have very little sense of shame and not much in the way of a conscience.

I doubt they even think about the consequences of spreading misinformation. A good example of that misinformation is in post #304 where the idiot poster states that the Covid vaccine gets into a person's DNA. Absolute bollocks.

Life / What gifts to take? Presents customs in Poland. [173]

Some shops in Poland sell chocolate covered marzipan. I think imported from Germany.

Some of Lidl marzipan comes from Germany and some from Italy. I've just found that they sell dark chocolate covered marzipan eggs too.......

Licorice Allsorts

I haven't had those for years but I only really liked the blue bobbly looking ones.

News / Coronavirus in Poland - part 2 [473]

I caught the measles and lived to be a cantankerous old man.

I caught measles at age 5, ended up hospitalised and almost died. I can still remember it.

You can make light of it but it's a serious disease which is on the increase because of idiot anti-vaxxers.

News / Coronavirus in Poland - part 2 [473]

We are talking about the COVID vaccine, not the measle, mumps and rubella vaccines

From the article I linked to:

Online anti-vaxxers, conflating Covid and MMR theories, are convincing parents against immunising their children.

Oh God....

It's in different flavours too. In addition to the one in dark chocolate there's also a pineapple and rum marzipan log and a rum and raisin one.

The best ones though are the Lidl marzipan chocolate rounds. They come in orange, cherry, and plum and madeira flavours. They are to die for!

I doubt they care about the amount of damage that anti-vax conspiracy theories do.

Of course they don't which is why potentially fatal diseases like measles are on the increase again:

How many times did I ask how many dead Ukrainians are too many?

Probably as many times as I asked how many kids dead from gunshot wounds are too many. Where's my answer?

Language / Game - guess Polish idioms/sayings in direct English translation [1756]

Do you mean coffee on the bench, kawa na ławę?

Yes. I found it strange that it's translated as coffee on the table as that should be kawa na stole. Go figure.

Sort of down to nitty gritty or not beating about the bush.

Yes. Speaking plainly and getting straight to the point.

the only Merci flavour I could really do without is marzipan

I love marzipan as well as coffee chocolates :)

Marzipan is one of m6 favourite things.

Lidl do a marzipan log in dark chocolate. Sadly, it's usually only at Xmas and Easter.
