Life / Single mothers in Poland [175]

@Jon: I can't talk here but I had that in my closest family (in Poland).

@Vox: "lol"

in Poland, it would not be difficult to stop asking people's for their parents' id when not necessary (like in most cases).

OK, once again, let's hear it, as a white hetero male, you feel discriminated! By whom?

I don't judge people by their sexual orientation (it's a private matter) and everybody should have same rights and same duties.

@Jon: they always go in pair (rural areas + lack of education = higher religiosity).

As J.P. Sartre said "we all are someone else's Jew" and thus stigmatization and discrimation start with a group and then they concern another group and so forth.

@Vox; it is so in a lot (if not all) religious countries and yes, it is to stigmatize "bad women and their kids". In Spain and Portugal, it's even worse since just by the name, a "bastard" is recognized right away ;).

And yes, unwed mothers are considered "bad women" by Polish society. I bet an unwed mother would never be elected in Poland.

@Vox: No need for utopia because fortunately democratic societies do exist. People don't need to be stigmatized because they are of a different color, different religion or atheists, different opinion, because they are not heterosexuals, because they were born out of wedlock etc etc ...

Sorry, but whenever I need to give my ID in Poland, why are my parents' names always requested?

@Jon: yes! 1. stigmatization and 2. discrimination. Starting to make differences among citizens based upon criteria they have not chosen and cannot change is always a bad idea.

When father's id is systematically demanded, it is a sure way to stigmatize the "bastards" and their "slutty" mothers ;). What a coincidence, it's the normal practice in all religious countries ;).

Life / Single mothers in Poland [175]

@Jon; Yes, it is stigmatization of people being "different". This reminds me of Spanish and Portuguese manner of naming kids with both father's and mother's names and therefore the kid who only has 1 name is a ... "bastard".

@Vox: your copy-paste thing does not answer my question. ;)

____________________________________

Of course, this has something to do with catholic religion in order to stigmatize and discriminate "bad people".

In some countries, people have to indicate their religion (for instance, in Greece) and in case of a state religion, how are those with a different or with no religion considered?

In a democratic society, people are not stigmatized because they are "different".

@Vox: you cannot deny that for whatever you do in Poland, we always need to indicate our parents' names (where I am from, never) and it sure is stigmatization of people with unknown fathers.

It does not bother me personally but such people are yes stigmatized. As said, in a democratic society, all citizens are treated equally.

And yes, single mothers are stigmatized in Poland as society considers them no better than sluts...

You can copy-paste whatever you want, it won't change reality.

People should not be stigmatized because "different" from the majority.

Work / Average earnings and cost of living in Warsaw? [42]

@Ggupta: that the minimum to live decently in Warsaw but I doubt you can ask for your salary to be doubled just like that. In order to do so, you need to convince your employer that yours skills and experience justify such an amount. I assume that your boss based your salary on your skills and experience. Most probably too that if you don't accept his offer, you boss will find someone else.

You know, I cannot ask my boss to give me ... 15,000 ;).

It does not work like this in life.

Where are you from?

@Krzechu: sure it's BS but we don't know about the OP's background and also about the job per se. Of course, the salary is lousy but it may correspond to the job. Of course, it would be nice to get 2, 3, 5, 10 or 52 times more but it does not work like that ;). If IT company in Poland, they know about salaries.

@Ggupta: yes, Lodz and Olsztyn are cheaper but you may be as bored as a dead rat there. Olsztyn is a small place where it's very cold in winter and Lodz is run down and ugly...

Work / Average earnings and cost of living in Warsaw? [42]

@Smurf: the employer is not even Polish as most probably one of those international IT things but never mind, it's a shame but if they tend to recruit in poor countrie it's obviously to pay them peanuts. The problem is that some do accept

With 2,700 Poles can get by but because they know how to manage and also have family support. A foreigner won't manage on that. Since all those are Indians and Pakistanis, they'll spend more money on food since they buy food from their countries. They are often also pressured by the (large) family to send money home so here (and elsewhere) they live like rats, piling up in tiny rundown flats in lousy neighborhoods.

21st century's plantations!

@Gupta; "stable" employment? BS! First of all, you'll have a 3 month probation period during which he can fire you like a dog and after that you have no guarantee either. As to private medical care, it covers ambulatory services but does not include dentists (sometimes you have 10% off but that's all). You'll also have to pay most of your medications since the State insurance (you'll pay for it too) covers only a tiny bit therof. You'll have to pay tax on your sports card and as to 3rd pillar, it's for the retirement.

Nevertheless 2,700 is not enough to lvie decently in Warsaw.

With 2,700, you won't be able to go on vacation and to face emergencies and you won't save anything.

You need at least 4,000.

Where are you from?

Work / Average earnings and cost of living in Warsaw? [42]

@Jon: for your info, a Warsaw card cost 98zl if we pay tax in Warsaw otherwise it's 112 but never mind! Netheless, with some kind of salaries, no fun and no way to face emergencies (for instance dentist...), to buy clothes and to travel.

I don't understand all those coming to Poland to work for peanuts who are so concerned about savings ;).

The OP needs at least 4,000 netto and after his rent, it won't be that great either.

@Smurf: if the boss offers so little, he's not going to double it ;). If OP refuses, then another Pakistani ou Indian will take job ;)

Let's say: 1,100/1,200 to share flat, utilities included, ZTM card 112, (basic) food 800 (200 a week) = already 2,012/2,112. With the 688/588 left, need to pay; telephone, and things such as c;othes, shoes, emergencies for instance at dentist... Maybe 1 beer per week, 1 Mcdo and 1 movie per month and that's it. I hope OP doesn't smoke.. Even while living like a monk = 0 savings. And needless to say, no change to get a girl! ;)

what do you want to save money for? With this kind of salary, it you want to save any money, you'll have to live like a rat and eat garbage.

Where do you come from to accept such a low salary?

Life / Single mothers in Poland [175]

@Vox: without going to the extreme, single mothers and illegitemate kids are discriminated against in Poland. Whatever we need to do in Poland, for instance, we always need to indicate both parents' names. In case a child is illegetimate and does not know his father's name, he's stigmatized and this is wrong. I am shoked. Where I come from, parents' ids are only needed in court or when requesting a birth cerificate (on my ID card and passport NO indication of my parents).

Single mothers in Poland are often considered no other than sluts. I've got some in my family so I know.

In a conservative ultra catholic society like Poland, it is NORMAL that people who have sinned are stigmatized.

Not my idea of a fair and democratic society (everybody should be treated in an equal manner).

Life / Single mothers in Poland [175]

@Wulkan: "lol"! :)

Unfortunately in most parts of Poland, it's still the way it was in Western Europe till in the 1940/1950's. A pregnant girl has to get married and if not, she's seen as a "slut".

It is of course terrible and not much more advanced than the way it is in Iran and the like....

Are single mothers very common in Poland?

It looks like all polls show the same...

(I personally can't stand PiS and can't stand PO but I have the intution that PiS is going to make it this fall).

@Delph: when poll institutes call, it does not matter whether people are on vacation or not.

After the 1st tour, all polls gave Duda winner and during that time no vacation ;).

I cannot stand either party (if I were Polish, I would vote TR) but I accept whatever Poles decide. Neither PO nor PiS shall change my life.

PS: do you vote (in Poland)?
You seem to take it personally...

News / Poland's indecent junk capitalism? [53]

@Delph; I know a lot of those "company owners" who barely make 3,000 ZL a month and therefore they cannot pay ZUS. Not everybody is a big Tycoon in Poland ;)

A lot of those "entrepreneurs" don't even earn the salt for their soup but it's a way for the Government not to count them among the unemployed.

Do people complain about that ZUS nonsense? Of course, no!

I personally hate people acting like stupid sheep.

@Doug: 1,300!!! it's well over the 900 that I thought. It does not make any sense and thus many work under the table. Besides being too high, it does not make any sense as it should be a % of what the socalled business makes.

@Delph: Hofman was and is not the only one unfortunately. The document published (in July or August 2014) consisted of several pages with the travel expenses by all "Poseł" over a period of 2 or 3 years. Doc could be found on the net.

I have also heard things such as meetings at the ... Galápagos Islands ;).

News / Poland's indecent junk capitalism? [53]

@Delph: NFZ pays 80% of salary (when umowa o pracy, of course ;)) and not 100%. As to education leave, it can be for how many years? 2, 3, 5? but it is not paid.

Of course it is a problem for women but what to do? Authorities and economists complain the birth rate is too low but if women are not helped, they won't have many kids...

What to do? ;)

@Delphi: according to what I hear it's now ... 900, is it, regardless of income? In the summer, I don't work much and it would bother me to pay 900 ;). ZUS should be a % of the earnings

News / Poland's indecent junk capitalism? [53]

@Harry: I had my own company (in fact still do officially) but not using it because I think ZUS payment is too much . I'm satisfied with my income, my flexible schedule but I do know that I cannot afford to miss work because I'm sick (I had cancer surgery and was out of work for only 10 days but I would not recommend it to anyone ;)). Next month, I have to go to hospital for a control and shall stay there 1 week (I won't pay since I have ZUS/NFZ pursuant to my husband's death) during which I shall make no income. I can manage financially but what about those who cannot? I won't have retirement from working this way but furtunately I'll have a (decent by Polish standards) foreign retirement otherwise what? If I were younger, of course I wouldn't accept this and move abroad.

When I see my situation, I'm glad to say it's ok (at least financially) but I look at the whole situation and not to only at my little person. There are 3.5 million Poles working under such sh###t contracts and very often it's hell for them.

I'm not selfish. I consider the general interest before my little self.

PS: contrary to what CMS believes: garbage contracts are not for special jobs and special age groups since they concern everybody.
InPolska

@CMS: Obviously, you don't know about Poland if you think garbage contracts are only for "toilet cleaners". I also work with foreign companies and some of them hire (engineers, sellers...) only on garbage contracts.

I also personally know several Poles with Master's Degrees or even more who work in Government institutions Under garbage contracts.

Garbage contracts are not for young people but for EVERYBODY.

@CMS; get informed about Poland instead of talking about what you don't know about.

(as far as I'm concerned, I have a Master's Degree from the US)

News / Poland's indecent junk capitalism? [53]

@CMS: what personal experience do you have with so called garbage contracts?

for the past few years, around 75% of my income come from garbage contracts. I must admit I make "great" money but to do so, I have to work like a slave (up to 12 hours a day most of the year, max. 2 weeks' vacation per year) and I'd better not be sick;). 6 years ago, I was operated of a (thyroid) cancer and I did take only 10 days off (including the 4 days at the hospital). Fortunately I'll have a foreign retirement but since I have not worked very long (but had a good salary), I could expect maximum 1,000/1,100 euros/month because in Poland I'll get nothing...

You know, life is rough for the "little guy". Not everybody can be a big tycoon full of gold and money! ;)

There are a lot of Poles on garbage contracts who don't make more than 2,000/2,5000 ZL (I know some) and I feel very sorry for thme.

It would be good to read from those Poles on garbage contracts and who are paid peanuts. It would be a different speech ,).

A few months ago, I read about a (Polish) girl (in GW) who was pregnant and alone (I know, it happens ;)) and who worked on umowa o dzieło. That girl had a lot of health problems related to her pregnancy but she could not afford to stay home.

Examples of such kind go by the thousand.

And what about all those young ones who cannot start families, buy flats because they don't have umowa o pracy.

These are the REAL problems.
