Food / What do non-Poles think about eating the following Polish foods? [1450]

yellow pepper or squash.

Pepper??? Not this shape, look closer.

Squash??? Yes, patison squash.

Do you remember my stuffed zuchhinis 2 and 1 year ago?? I made two dozen of them and put in the freezer for future consumption. But now I am fed up with them. I decided to freeze only flat bases and add the stuffing onto them later according to my needs and tastes.

News / Ups and downs of the democratic government 2023-2027 in Poland [363]

thieves who used the past 8 years to fill their pockets and who should rot in jail
name one or two of these, please

Gumishu plays a fool as always and pretends he know nothing about crimes by United Right.

I have always admired the cheekiness of PIS rightist gangsters. They lie and cheat so blatantly that Pinochio is a small Bolek in comparison.

E.g, yesterday former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and former RARS chief Michał Kuczmierowski, Morawiecki`s stooge, decided to sue MEP Michał Szczerba for "violating their personal rights". The allegations are that "Morawiecki's people" are fleeing Poland and Kuczmierowski is "avoiding questioning".
The RARS Government Agency for Strategic Reserves is under the microscope of investigators. The media has written extensively about numerous suspicious cases, including the issue of orders to deliver generators to Ukraine for the clothing brand Red is Bad.

And today we can read that Michał Kuczmierowski is actually Michał K. because the National Prosecutor's Office announced the court's consent to the temporary arrest of Michał K., which will result in the issuance of an arrest warrant for him.

Polish young women crushed their competitors at the 4th European Girls' Olympiad in Informatics
All four Polish females taking part in the 4th European Girls' Olympiad in Informatics won gold medals.

The 4th European Girls' Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI) took place in Veldhoven, Netherlands, at the end of July. Although the name suggests that only competitors from the Old Continent take part in the competition, in reality girls from all over the world take part in the competition. Each country can have a maximum of 4 people. This year, 195 competitors from 56 countries took part in the competition. According to the event organizers, the competition is held according to the rules of the International Olympiad in Informatics. The competition is individual. Over the course of two days, the participants of the Olympiad take part in two five-hour sessions, during which they solve algorithmic and programming tasks. 100 is the maximum number of points that can be earned for each of them - this year there were eight of them - four each day. The total number of points determines the place in the final ranking. Half of the participants are awarded medals in the proportion of 1:2:3 - gold, silver and bronze medals, respectively. 8.5 percent competitors receive gold medals.

News / Dirty deeds of foreign guys in Poland [128]

A man from Senegal scored two strikes and was deported to his country.

A Senegalese man, who a few weeks ago, in front of gathered people, probably relieved himself at the "Na trzy stawach" swimming pool located in Katowice , was detained on Wednesday by Border Guard officers in Sosnowiec."In accordance with the procedures, they once again verified the legality of his stay in our country. The foreigner was unable to produce any identity document for inspection, let alone a document that would entitle him to legal residence in Poland ," the Border Guard reported.

A foreigner who already has a decision issued by the Commander of the Border Guard Post in Sosnowiec, obliging him to return to his country of origin, which he did not do voluntarily, is subject to forced escort to the border. On Wednesday, the man was taken by Border Guard officers under escort to the Warsaw - Okęcie airport, from where he flew to Senegal - it was indicated in the announcement.

idyllic wheat field.

Pure wheat fields aren`t idyllic. To be in idyllic environment, you need a small tree giving shade, a stream, a female and a fujarka.

Impossible if there is already ripe fruit.

No, there is a fence net around the tree which covers not only the trunk but also the top part.

Food / Polish food vs Ukrainian food [31]

Not really. But we have had Ukrainian borsch for decades or even centuries.

he differences are so minute as to be basically irrelevant.

Not so minute.
Two examples which instantly come to my mind: Ukrainians relish on dried fish while Poles/Polesses don`t.
Ukrainians eat a lot of salo aka lard, even use it as a snack while in Poland it is used mainly for frying by a few people.

Lard sandwich below. The fact that I love such deli food means nothing coz I am not a good representative.

Thanks, it is. Memories revived. :)::)

BTW, if you are here, can you look at the picture of the paper apple tree and tell me what is unusual about it??? And I don`t mean that solitary apple.

News / Dirty deeds of foreign guys in Poland [128]

A guy comes to fix the pipes with a Ukrainian accent. Another one to change the locks Ukrainian accent again. A delivery for the wife, you guessed it. And so on,

Wow, you are lucky to meet so many Ukrainians in Poland. I meet one per week, mostly a woman working in a shopping centre.
Now I don`t count Ukrainian students in my school. I somehow view them the same as Polish students.

It is because I am not lying.

Stop twisting. You were lying about President Zelensky requesting Poland to send back Ukrainian males and about Poland`s reaction. Such events haven`t taken place.

commits a crime.

Well, I thought it was a standard behaviour in civilised countries.
If you think different, then it means we have run into cultural disparities between Polish and Russian nationality. :):):):)

You bastards.

Exactly! hahahaha

When Zelenksy asks Poland to send the men back so they assist in the war effort - Poland says "sorry, no".

Your imagination is carrying you too far. There wasn`t such a request from Mr President Zelensky so Poland had no chance to react to it.
Do you appreciate the fact that I didn`t call you out as a stinking liar???? hahahaha

News / Is NORD STREAM dangerous for Poland's natural enviroment? [540]

Tusk telling people to shut up, and others saying that those divers should get medals - is a big mistake

I predict that in 20 years` time there will be a monument erected on the Polish seaside commemorating this heroic deed. :):):)

I explained with simple examples how blowing up the pipeline has done zero good

Bollox. It played an outstanding role as a symbolic act of breaking economic ties between Europe and Russia.
Glory to heroes who carried it out!
PS. I have just read that the Chinese have reduced their import of Russian fuels and if that continues, Russia is cooked economically faster than predicted. Good!!!

Pol-Shorpy Photo Thread
Excellent thread but bears a silly name which I can never remember and lose a lot of time looking for it when I want to post sth coz I always try to find Sharp instead of Shorpy. Torq, can you assign your threads more practical names for the pure convenience of elderly posters like me?

I just read that
The Germans sentenced a 99-year-old woman. She was a secretary at the Stutthof concentration camp

A 99-year-old German employee of the former KL Stutthof camp was found guilty of aiding and abetting the deaths of over 9,000 people. The defense demanded the acquittal of Irmgard F. The court found that the woman had acted voluntarily. The sentence of two years' imprisonment was upheld.

AmaSSing!

Let me remind you that the last public execution in Poland concerned German workers of the Stutthof camp. Thousands of spectators came to see it. A show like in the Middle Ages! AmaSSing!

This secretary sentenced today was so fekking lucky.hahahaha

It took place in Gdańsk in 1946.

Life / The climate for gardening in Poland [340]

I am a little obsessed in the orchard, I must say. I mean I maintain those fruit plants as trees even when they have a natural tendency to grow as bush/shrub. My obsession costs me time spent twice or thrice a year on pruning shoots on the ground level.

Hazelnut trees, not shrubs. We have 3 now. Initially, it was 1 and I was perplexed why it didn`t have any nuts for a few years. Later I read about cross pollinating.

This year I eventually was lucky to see first:
paper apple

Here it is. I didn`t notice it at first coz it was hidden in this greenery. Paper apples were the fruit of my childhood in 1970s - they were very popular then. Strangely, they ceased to. Now they are advertised as vintage apple trees by seedling growers.

A 35-year-old Ukrainian man committed numerous thefts and other crimes and misdemeanors in Poland, for which he was expelled from the country. He was taken into the hands of officers of the Border Guard station in Bielsko-Biała, who forcibly escorted him to the border with Ukraine. The man was banned from entering Poland and the Schengen area for five years.
