Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

Lots of useless quotes, that fail to explain the crucial leap from militia to the people.

The point was (that) there was no leapand the link pointed this out using precedent law, both common and official.

you just could not help yourself, huh?

Pointing out historical facts is always troublesome to those to 'feel' that everything is 'relative'.

Lots of useless quotes,

Some are from the American Constitution which are "useless" to those bent on promoting a nanny state.

The framers of the Constitution did not explain specifically what they meant by this amendment.

They did not believe they had to. It was understood.

thenewamerican.com/index.php/usnews/constitution/2603-the-second-amendment-the-states-and-the-people

From the link: "The Amendment did not purport to create, for the first time in 1789, "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms," though. Instead, it recognized that right's prior existence,in order to guarantee its future exercise. Indeed, the original Constitution actually required both the General Government and the States, not just to protect, but also affirmatively to promote, that exercise. This is because the original Constitution incorporated within its federal structure "the Militia of the several States."

"...the term "Militia," its meaning must be drawn from antecedent American law- in particular, from the great mass of pre-constitutional Colonial and State Militia statutes that regulated the Militia of the Colonies and then the independent States from the 1600s through the late 1700s. ...what the Second Amendment later described as "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms" was first and foremost a duty. Yet it was a right as well.

Opponents of the "right to bear arms" ignore the precedents of the word "militia" which were well understood at that time. Students in todays' universities are not taught these basics by their liberal professors. So they 'debate' the understood meaning.

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

jwojcie

Your link in post #72 shows a homicide rate. That's because criminals who illegally own guns shoot people who don't own guns, exceptions duly noted. Why do you want only the criminals and the government to own guns? You prove the point that an armed citizenry

is the best form of peace keeping.

it is better to rather give your wallet than try to shot a burglar

Not in my house, besides sometimes perpetrators shoot you anyway. Giving in to crime is not a very high principle.

what would happen if Poles had free access to guns during communist era

How about if Poles had more access to guns during the World War II occupation? Can you answer this question; why do all dictators confiscate guns from their citizens?

Before the Supreme Court's ruling this past June, Chicago had the most strict gun laws anywhere. Families could not possess a gun even in their own homes. Since only criminals had the guns, the murder rate in Chicago (mostly in 5 different neighborhoods) was sky high.

If honest citizens cannot own guns than only criminals and the government will have them. That's not logical or safe.

There is a reason why Hitler, Mao and Stalin (among other dictators) first confiscated guns when they took power. Those of you who support gun bans should ask yourself why?

Genealogy / Polish DNA? Poles have the most genes in a group includes Balts, Macedonians and Greeks. [264]

Hmmm, I just 'found' an old map in my overstuffed "Lazy Boy" chair. Must be about 2000 years old; shows that pro-Germans originated in Ethiopia but slowly worked their way north by hijacking Egyptian boats and paying off Gypsies to row them. They then intermingled with the native proto slavs along with a few Danes of dubious origin. People who came in contact with them got sick from their germs therefore [they] began calling them Germans.

The Zimmy Institute will investigate this astounding find and will reach the correct conclusions.

Look where the Slavs are 2000 years back...still much further East!

This dubious map seems to prove that many ancients lumped slavs in with Germans. Other errors also abound.
spiegel.de/international/zeitgeist/0,1518,720513,00.html

From the link: "...the data the ancient geographer used is distorted. Errors of scale crept in as he transcribed the Earth's sphere to the flat plane of a map. Ptolemy believed the northern lands to be narrower and more elongated than they are and bent Jutland in Denmark and Schleswig-Holstein in Germany too far to the east."

One can only imagine how inaccurate the guesswork was.

"The Berlin-based team pored over the recalcitrant data for six years, working together to develop a so-called "geodetic deformation analysis" that would help to correct the map's mistakes."

Wonder what a Warsaw based team would find?

"“The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject races to possess arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing."..............Adolph Hitler

"“If the opposition disarms, well and good. If it refuses to disarm, we shall disarm it ourselves.”
....... Joseph Stalin

"I gave the categorical order to confiscate the largest possible number of weapons of every sort and kind. This confiscation, which continues with the utmost energy, has given satisfactory results.” ....Benito Mussolini

"“All political power comes from the barrel of a gun. The communist party must command all the guns..." Mao Tze Tung,

“Guns, for what?"
A response to Cuban citizens who said the people might need to keep their guns,........Fidel Castro

"“A free people ought to be armed.”
– George Washington

Test Question; which of the above leaders did not initiate gun control?

USA, Canada / Why are Polish Americans mocked in the American media? [226]

Do PolAms work predominantly in blue collar jobs in US?

Most, by far, first generation Poles work in blue collar jobs. Most second generation poles work in white collar jobs. Most third generation Poles are professionals. Most fourth generation Poles are millionaires.

You know that those "Polish sayings" of Banacek have nothing to do with ... Polish sayings or proverbs at all. Not even one of them. So why do you keep quoting it?

The Banacek character was a positive one. Here was a successful, wealthy, wise-cracking detective type who was paid big bucks to crack crimes. He was so confident that he used his "proverbs" as a 'put-on'. Nothing wrong with that.

You are dating a spoiled child, therefore, any major decisions must be controlled by you.

Life / Cannabis / Weed in Poland... How much does marijuana cost per gram and how easy is to get it? [355]

why the hell is it illegal?

...because BigSisterGovernment knows what's best for us. Locking up people for smoking a plant is absurd.

By keeping pot illegal
the governments can maintain social control, allows permission for random urine samples on workers,

Wait until marijuana users on put on waiting lists for health care treatment when Obamacare kicks in. The Orwellian state loves this sort of control.

Right wing parties can get elected by saying it a lethal drug.

You inhaled once too often. Everyone knows marijuana is not lethal.

I heard this one from a Polish/Finnish American;
"Women have a less accurate measure of time than men: there's a clock in Adam, none in Eve."

Genealogy / Jewish Roots of Poland [638]

Zimmy Poland was the only country occupied by Germany that had a death sentence for helping or sheltering a Jew

Those who bash Polish/Jewish relations should remember this. There is a logical reason for this particularly harsh program in Poland. The reason being; the Nazis realized that Poles would be disproportionately helping Jews and therefore, attempted to restrict this aid by

instituting the harshest penalties which included murdering innocent Polish families related to those hiding and helping Jews.

At one point in history, 3/4 of all Jews lived in 'the lands of the Poles'. Some of my Jewish friends understand why.

Genealogy / Jewish Roots of Poland [638]

The Jews in the Netherlands had it pretty good too.

Perhaps but their history there is more limited than 'in the lands of the Poles'. The number of Jews in the Netherlands compared to Polands is also a major difference. Netherlands Jews were a sample, Polands were a Diaspora.

Genealogy / Jewish Roots of Poland [638]

I highly recommend the book, "The Jews of Poland" (A social and Economic History of the Jewish Community in Poland from 1100-1800)by Bernard D. Weinryb, and published by "The Jewish Publication Society of America"(1972).

It's from a Jewish perspective (but/and) quite informative. Even when there are occasional attempts to blame Poles for something, it's still obvious that Poland was the best and safest place for Jews in Europe or possibly anywhere. Backhanded compliments to Poles are more than evident.

History / Quotes of Polish or German kings, generals [41]

the 451.

This is obviously a reference to the misunderstood Attila, but another major confrontation took place that year. In the Avarayr Battle of 451 AD, the Armenians who although defeated, inflicted so many losses on the Persians that it eventually led to their self rule and stopped Persian expansion.

The proper behavior an American should show when visiting Poland
<><><><><><><>
Wow... I better take close look at this thread, before I visit the motherland this summer.

One more thing; it is proper for visiting young women to take the Polish men out for drinks. If this isn't done then it is disrespectful to Polish culture. This is the proper appreciation a guest should show to the host.

Love / Ten things to remember when you have a Polish girlfriend [79]

I don't want to shout out "Ooooo Magda" during my orgasm when in fact my wife is called Ani

I usually just ask; are you done yet?

I often point out to my girlfriend that she’s being a ‘bit of a princess’ to which she usually smiles and flutters her eyelids in complete ignorance of the negative connotations of the phrase in British and American English. Oh well.

Excellent demonstration of how the female mind thinks.

Love / How to show a polish Guy I like him [56]

f a woman continue to show care, thoughfulness, and "love" to a guy, will that make the guy feel something for the woman, eventually? or it will just be another lost case? :)

Depends on the guy in question. If a woman is a genuinely nice and honest person (then) this positive quality will show, actually, shine thru. A deserving man will reciprocate. If he doesn't then move on.

he is polish, and a guy

Okay, so far so good.

don't show him you are even the slightest bit interested in him

Here we go with that disgusting female habit of gamesmanship. When I see a woman that is so phony I drop her. This is terrible advice.

f you start being nice to him, or, God forbid, say you love him, then he will lose respect for you

Women who play your games don't deserve respect because they don't give it.

i am jaundiced, non?

Well, some honesty at last.

Love / How to show a polish Guy I like him [56]

The best way to endear yourself to a man is to 'be yourself'. Don't play the many games, usually involving testing a man that so many women play. If your inner self is loving, caring, and thoughtful, then let it shine thru your mannerisms.

Try to be upbeat and positive. I cannot tell you how often a conversation with a woman
goes negative because the woman has to either complain about something or share her life with you in some ****** manner. As a woman, you know what I'm talking about.

If you're a feminist then share the expenses; don't be a hypocrite. If you are a traditional woman, then let those virtues shine. Don't bash men which so many so-called modern women do today; in fact, it seems to be the norm.

Look for the good in life. ... and give as much as you get.

Good luck.

How to show a polish Guy I like him

When you go out try buying him dinner for a change. You'll feel "empowered" and "independent"! He'll object at first (male guilt) but insist and tell him he can buy dinner next time.
