News / Should Poland leave the EU institution? [147]

So the Soviet built roads were of a high standard? Most Poles would disagree with you.

Numbers don't always count. Sway does!

It is and that's their goal.

Geez, I-S, and what roads were built before Poland's accession to the EU compared to those, for example, in Croatia? Their big war only finished 16 years ago yet they still made inroads if you forgive the pun. Many things were not built prior to ratification.

Would it make any difference if 3 Poles were there instead of 1?

You can't help but feel that the EU has been a grand vision all along. Certain banking dynasties had it at the forefront of their minds.

Fragmentation is a weird one. In the case of Serbia, for example, they maybe thought they wouldn't play ball so they fragmented the whole of Yugoslavia and are now trying to get them back onboard as a huge collective.

Language / Is the term 'Polak' derogatory?? [254]

I agree. I think it's ok for Poles to use it but natives should tread with caution. If I ever refer to a Polish male, I just say 'on jest Polakiem' and that neatly sidesteps any ensuing complications of saying 'Polak'.

It all depends on how it is thrown. With the intention of describing a Polish male in a neutral way, no problem.

Poland tends to show its honor in avoiding things like Libya and the audacious hack at Syria for doing exactly as Britain did. The time will come when Poland loses tolerance with such banditry.

Again right, Crow. Britain pulls the strings in a number of ways. Poland is small fry in the eyes of the British govt. A future target for bankruptcy.

Och, I'm not going to get into these statistics games where figures are pulled from the sky. Debt is a modern reality and many EU countries are doing much worse in that regard.

History / Poles should emulate Jews? [153]

You choose who you want as a role model in your life, whether they be Jewish or otherwise. There are plenty successful Jews in many walks of life so they make for good choices but carving out your own formula with minor influences is the preferred way.

Life / Thread dedicated to Polish and other Slavic children [53]

Crow, it's great that you are posting such material but please teach them general Christianity and don't indoctrinate them too early in the finer differences that people shouldn't really care about. Slavic is Slavic and don't labour on the differences.

History / 'Battle of Britain' won thanks to Polish aces !! [158]

Many Brits are thankful for the Polish contribution as it was a sterling one. Poles should also be happy that they got planes from the RAF with which to destroy their enemy. A win-win situation and many thanks to the Polish pilots who were truly courageous and capable.

I imagine the average intelligence of Polish kids to be really high :) :) They are encouraged in schools by wychowawcy (educational minders?) and mature quite quickly. However, life tends to impose strain on them as they get older but let's not get into that here.

Life / Why Do You Love Poland? [907]

That's not enough to form a rounded perspective, pawian. He throws out wildly general statements, way too assertive. He's like a propaganda machine.

I attempt, as best possible, to fulfil the raison d'etre of PF. It's supposed to be about the good and the bad.

I love Polish bread :) I bought 'noble' bread today, 1kg as the shops will be closed tomorrow. Polish bread can be a tad dry for me but you can tell it is well made and often tastes good if fresh.

Oh, I'm often the first to apologise (esp when playing footie) but this guy doesn't merit it. I hate propaganda and half-spun 'truths', sorry.

UK, Ireland / Why Poles will never belong in England [283]

It's called redressing the imbalance, jarnowa.

Some employers don't play by the rules. What kind of society does that create?

Some get help getting into employment. Employers hire Poles because they work for less. There is still a colour bias in the UK in some sectors. Shall I go on?

Resident realist? I can't see where he said that.

Jarnowa, hasn't it crossed your mind that immigrants took those jobs? Just a thought!
