News / Surprising ranking of Polish supermarkets (Biedronka expensive?) Living expenses in Poland. [35]

@Del: 100% true! All these industrial craps are new in Poland and that's why so many people buy them. Well, mods told us we are wandering away so back to topic ;).

An Indian family of 3 + relatives to sponsor back home shall not make it on 5,000 brutto. And no, employers just don't double salaries because applicants want double money. It does not work this way. If Indian X does not want the job then Indian or Pakistani Y shall take it.

@Del and Kzei: do you only eat starches?

@Krzei: if you are from Italy, I suppose that you can eat pasta and noodles every day but don't tell me you can eat the "makaron sh@@@t" they eat in Poland! Italian pasta is relatively expensive by Polish standards and does not fit in your budget ;). You eat like a student and please be aware that if ok for a few months or couple of years, it is not healthy in the longer run and of course Indians (either single or with family) shall not eat this kind of diet. They'll stick to their home food and therefore buy imported stuff.

@Del: unfortunately at stores such as Biedronka and consorts, there are a lof of industrial crappy foods that are not healthy. I suppose ok to buy some fruit, some vegetables (in summer I prefer to buy from street sellers)... I personally don't eat much meat, and when I do, it's only chicken breast, turkey and veal so I don't mind spending a few more ZL in good stores.

@Krzei: true if we don't eat local, we spend a lot of money (my case because I buy a lot of products from abroad, from home or elsewhere). I don't like traditional Polish food and it is normal that at least once in a while we want to buy products from home ;). Indians as a result won't eat Polish food and won't spend 60 ZL/week ;)

@Krzei: be aware that Indians don't eat Polish food. And sorry, Biedronka is not the best quality of food (I never go there). I suppose you are very young and don't mind eating crap. Most people that I know (including Poles) spend much more than I do. I suppose that I spend around 200zl a week (I have not really counted). Also as I had cancer, I am particular now very fussy about food and prefer to spend more for better food.

Besides, what's the point of living abroad on a surviving budget? This beats me.

You just live on starches and industrial food. No real meat, no fresh fish, no fresh vegetables, no fresh fruit, no (quality) cheese, no diary products.... Sorry, but this is not healthy. You eat like a student. Believe me, older people and more so when they have kids, have to eat better.

News / Degenerate "rainbow" eyesore to disappear from Saviour Square (Plac Zbawiciela) in Warsaw [297]

@Pol: The video you have supplied is only ONE day situation (I remember it). The cops are also there every year on November 11 and as a result it means 1 day (max 2) day(s) PER YEAR. Sorry, but 1 or 2 days per year are by definition ... EXCEPTIONS and not the RULE. We cannot generalize out of 1 or 2 examples and you should know it.

@Levi: I agree with you re the stupid plastic palm tree on Rondo Ch. de Gaulle - completely crazy, kitchy but as the "artist" must be someone's friend ;)

News / Degenerate "rainbow" eyesore to disappear from Saviour Square (Plac Zbawiciela) in Warsaw [297]

@Pol: I OFTEN walk around there with a shopping bag as there are among others a Superfarm and a Rossmann stores and in summer there are always 1 or 3 guys selling fruit and vegetables and nothing has ever happened to me. When I am there, I also see tons of people carrying shopping bags as a lot of people live there and do their every day shopping there and nothing happens. Believe me, should it be like you say, a lot of people here would complain (Poles are not a homogeneous mass and all ideas can be found among therm).

Please stop believing BS from dishonest media!

Do you think anyone would be stupid enough to carry bombs in their bags in order to blow up a ... plastic rainbow? Obviously you don't know Poland and the Poles

News / Degenerate "rainbow" eyesore to disappear from Saviour Square (Plac Zbawiciela) in Warsaw [297]

@Harry: Hi! I am no achitecture expert but like you, I think the area was built in the 1950's. As to the Rainbow, it beats me that some people keep refusing the truth. Media are very dangerous indeed through their lies. When we live in the place, we do know the truth but most people don't live in the place and when stupid, they take for granted whatever they read/hear. If Pol3 lives in Warsaw, why doesn't he go there and check instead of believing any BS found in partial media? If he sees different things from the reality, maybe he should buy or change his glasses. NOBODY can claim the Rainbow is or even has been protected by police and dogs because it is NOT true. In police central stations they do have cameras to check what goes on in ALL areas so it includes Savior Place.

Yes, each November 11, police need to be in that area because of fascists's attacks and most probably American media show ONE picture taken on a Nov 11 and their "conclusion": this is the way it IS in Warsaw.

It drives me crazy when I read/hear BS about what something/somone that I know very well but unfortunately a lot of people don't want to inform themselves, they just take for granted any BS some media (medium?) shall write/say. The only way to know is to travel and to meet people who really know.

What to do, Pol3 and many others believe that there are heavy police and attack dogs protecting the Rainbow and whatever we say is useless. American media know "better" about Warsaw than .... Warsaw's inhabitants ;) lol

@Pol: if you live in Warsaw, I invite you for a coffee/drink/even meal in area and you'll see that what you claim is not true ;)

News / Degenerate "rainbow" eyesore to disappear from Saviour Square (Plac Zbawiciela) in Warsaw [297]

@Pol3: This is NOT true. It is not because written in a paper or on the net that it is true ;). Do trust people who live in Warsaw because only they know the truth.

I don't remember when it was installed but I have seen it for years (I used to live in area until last October) and now I am in the area several times per month. Believe me, I have NEVER seen police and dogs there. I suppose there only cops there on Nov. 11 (but I stay at home ;)).

I remember that it was almost complely destroyed on a Nov. 11 (2 or 3 years ago, I can't remember) and remained so for quite a while. It was fully restored in May 2014 and since then no vandalism whatsoever. There are no police. I assume that most people living in the area don't care about it and that's all.

@Pol3: do come to Warsaw and see for yourself INSTEAD of believing any BS you find on the net! People who live in Warsaw know better:

You are intelligent so I don't understand why you take for granted whatever BS you find on the net. This bugs me when I read (or hear) people who don't know, who have not been to the place but they "know" because they have read it somewhere ;). As you most probably know, a lot of journalists don't write the truth.

In this forum, there are several of us who live in Warsaw and we all say the same...

Please be reasonable and accept the truth! :)

Life / Top 5 things I like about Poland [56]

@Dolna: ok ;). When I say "cheap" or "expensive" I usually consider the local income levels since prices are first of all aimed at the local population ;). If for you it's cheap, then great for you! :) Believe me, all the money I have spent and I spend in dental and in medical bills (I even had cancer) is really concrete and unfortunately abstract to a lot of Poles and I'm aware of it ;).

Never mind! :)

@Dolno: dentists are "cheap" if you have a western or an above average local income. II have just been to dentist's this afternoon and I have paid 236 ZL for a filling. Next month, I'll have work that'll cost some 2,000 (and 0 ZL reimbursed). I CAN pay but not everybody in Poland have this kind of money. You know, a lot of Poles don't even make 2,000 gross per month.

Life / Top 5 things I like about Poland [56]

Polish diet is UNhealthy: very limited, only starches, a lot of pork, hardly any vegetables, hardly any fruit (all of them either grown with no sun in soil contaminated by Chernobyl or imported so no taste), no fish, no salt with iodine (a lot of people sick of thyroid gland, including cancer), no vitamins, no minerals. Result: people are always sick, and look much older than they are, when they reach 40/50. I'm not sure Polish diet is "healthier" than the American diet. (I live in Poland and I have lived in the US so I know both).

As to "alpinism", sorry, Polish mountains are very low...The Alps are twice higher (and much nicer)...

Genealogy / Do I look Polish? (my picture) [375]

Another "intelligent" post! Most Poles do look like any other European nationality. To my big surprise, some are even as dark as Southern Europeans. I personally know a Polish woman who looks like she'd come from South America or from Arabic countries and guess what, she is 100% Polish and does not have a single drop of hispanic or of arabic bood...

Maybe in the Eastern parts of Poland, they may have a more slavic look (I have noticed that Russians and Ukrainians most often do) but in Western parts of Poland, they look all different. In Warsaw, most people when not opening their mouth could pass for almost any other (European) nationality. I don't have any single drop of Polish/slavic blood and unless I open my mouth, they all think I'm Polish. This is to conclude that Poles in their biggest majority don't look anything special and the same applies to most people throughout Europe. We are not clones. Through history, borders have changed so much, people have circulated so much that out of isolated areas, people are all mixed. In Spain, Portugal, Rumania, for instance, we can find a lot of blond people with blue eyes and very pale skin and in Northern contries we can find some people with dark hair, dark eyes... In all European countries, we can find everything so no "typical" Pole, Estonian, Greek, Belgian, French or Dane...

PS: in your country, people don't look all alike, so it's the same in Poland and everywhere else ;)

News / Poland's PiS party members and crime [346]

@Delph: I am NO PiS follower (neither PO's) but believe me, this is so everywhere. I am not saying it's good but it's the way it is so why different in Poland?

@Delph: Since 1998 through family and then through work, I have been around government things in Poland and I can assure you that further to all general/presidential elections, there are a lot of changes in the staff (including often at "only" medium level). My conclusion: nothing new! (I'm not saying it's good or bad, am just saying this is the way ...)

News / Homosexual lobby steps up infiltration in Poland [110]

@Pol: you can't catch homosexuality but I am sure you can catch leprosy ;).

You can shake hands with homosexuals, drink out of their glasses, kiss them and nothing bad shall happen to you but I am not sure you can do same with lepers ;).

Anyway there have been homosexuals since the beginning of mankind so you have to bear with them. What do you want to do? Kill them? Send them to camps? Make them "straight" through some weird electric shock therapy (it is so in some countries)? ...

Life / How do Polish people treat their animals? [33]

Unfortunately a lot of dogs are very "poor" in Poland! So many (including very big) dogs "live" with families in tiny flats and this should be forbidden. Sometimes I see dogs almost as big as small horses in such flats. This is crual.

Life / Polish people are the most ignorant people in the world! [331]

@Zeeke: unfortunately you are right. 99.99% of Americans don't know anything about the outside world. When as a teenager I first went there for a vacation, I was asked "do you have cars, fridge... in Europe?" I know some Pole who was asked in the US whether there is ... running water in Polish homes. Sad but true!

News / Degenerate "rainbow" eyesore to disappear from Saviour Square (Plac Zbawiciela) in Warsaw [297]

Why in the world do some keep telling lies? There are no police, no dogs to "protect" the Rainbow and there never were any. I lived several years within walking distance from area and I never saw anything of the kind. I now often travel through area and still no police, no dogs...

It is disguting to make up stories. People who live in Warsaw can say it is no true.

Instead of talking BS, do travel around the world, do come to Warsaw and check for yourself!

News / Janusz Korwin Mikke - controversial Polish politician [43]

They like foot ball, booze and fascist movements. I could watch them from my windows every year while living in Centrum and I must say it was pretty scary, it looked like war. Of course, they always end up with the burning of the "Rainbow".

They are POLES who destroy half of the city (I used to live in Centrum, not far from MarszaƂkowska and Konstitucji so I could see from my Windows), who beat up people every year on Nov. 11.

News / Janusz Korwin Mikke - controversial Polish politician [43]

@Ultima: that day he was alone, was not walking straight, and looked like a nut. For a around 30 seconds, he was maybe one meter away from us so we saw him clearly.

With him, those not belonging to the rich just die. Sorry, not my kind of a society ;). Fortunately he is around 1% so no need to worry about him.

News / Janusz Korwin Mikke - controversial Polish politician [43]

Thanks, Ultima, to confirm that he's the opposite of what I believe in but fortunately he'll never make it ;). The guy is a shame for Poland and for EU. Last September or October, I saw him in Warsaw. I was with a friend, who first saw him and we stopped and watched him as he was on the other side of the street. He went to a bankomat and then crossed the street towards us because his car was parked not far from us. I don't know now but he drove a red car that day. There were 2 red cars in front of each other and he tried to enter one car. He realized then it was wrong ;) car and then tried the second car which was his, he jumped in and drove away as though he was crazy or drunk. I meant to take pictures but he would have seen me so I did not.

PS: isn't he at European Parliament with French FN, a fascist party funded by waffen SS guys and officially financed by Putin? Nice guys indeed!

@Ultima, isn't he against education, health services organized by the State? And of course, women should not vote (what he said), stay in the kitchen and go to Church ;).

Travel / Where to eat best donuts in Wroclaw? (Bakery, local places, etc) [10]

@Roger: true that Dunkin like all the rest of American "crap" is too sweat, too greasy, full of all kinds of chemicals but nevertheless all doughtnuts (which exist in ALL cultures, including in Asia, Africa...) are fried in oil (not the healthiest food ;). Since I have to be careful about cholesterol, I don't eat anything fried (I love French fries but I eat some only 2 or 3 times a year)

Well, I suppose it's ok when you eat 1 (or 2) doughnuts once in a while. When in the USA, I had an (obese) neighbor who ate (I swear) 12 doughtnuts every day at breakfast (+ eggs, saussage, pancakes, jam...). The girl, in her 30's at the time, was well over 150 kg.
