Polonia / Let's talk about Sweden and other Scandinavian countries [236]

The Swedish Model has been under considerable strain for some time now. Rather than being crushed under the weight of excessive gov't spending, I believe the challenge has been the lasting effects of Reaganism on struggling socialist democracies.

History / What makes you feel Polish? [167]

Szopen's Etude in E "La Tristesse" aka "Smutnosc" to me is the soul of Poland.

Life / Problems adjusting in Poland [41]

Perhaps, but although it's been a while since I was last in Poland, according to recent webcam footage, the old, drab architecture has changed considerably.

Life / Problems adjusting in Poland [41]

Coming from an Anglo-Saxon culture, I can imagine that a formerly Black Market culture could be extremely daunting, to say the least.

News / "Lack of Common Sense in Politics and Society" - political correctness in Poland [33]

At least in the States, political correctness is admittedly the often misguided attempt to undo, redress, past wrongs meted out against those in our society whose sole "crime" was/is NOT being mainstream. In Poland, I've observed the famous handkiss over many years and as a man, I see nothIng particularly offensive, certainly demeaning, therein. However, this shouldn't of course ever license to abuse a woman as fair game by men who have no standards of common decency:-)

History / Poland or Germany: Which country rebuilt more of its architecture? [5]

What many abroad don't realize is that compared with Germany, Poland was dirt poor after the war! Naturally, even with an essentially wrecked infrastructure, it took the Germans but several years of unceasing, methodical labor to all bv resurrect their country. Warsaw's downtown took roughly twenty some years to rebuild, from '47 - '68, not out of sloth, but rather poverty.

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1090]

And still, no other peoples submitted en masse with such nearly unstoppable gusto to the unparalleled anti-Christian barbarism of the Third Reich as Hitler's million hordes! This then begs the eternal question "Why Germany?"
