History / What do Poles owe to Jews? [586]

@Lyzko
To the point of Swedes thinking they always been nice and peaceful. Which seemed to be a new level of self deception I have never seen before, totally blind to their past. It borders on total ridiculousness.

Loyalty has a lot to say in group mentality, in Poland it's specifically tied to ones willingness to defend Poland militarily. During the Swedish deluge, a group of pacifists opposed fighting the Swedes and were considered traitors to Poland and henceforth banished in to exile. They brought later on the tradition of tolerance onward to U.S.A. Where a majority Protestant country had several other religious denominations, the choice was either civil war over it or tolerating the presence without agreeing to their dogmatic position.

Here is a link if you are interested to know more,

Yes you are right, as you surely know Poland had tradition of tolerance (how it looked like differed in volume throughout history) so intermingling between faiths was normal. Very similar to the U.S with aspect of multiculturalism. It's very "unnormal" how Poland is now today, compared to a very mixed society through most of Polish history

They managed that perfectly fine, except with the Polish right wing. Cause it was deemed to live according to ones religious belief, trouble is that if a Hebrew is to live according to his religious belief he can't be part of the Polish nation. Unless he became Catholic, one can't be part of two different Israeli nations at the same time.

you cool down coz now you are too emotional.. :):)

I am cool, just don't make stuff up. Or I might start telling here on the forum that Ukrainian politicians aren't the only ones who one tried to poison.

Political rivalry is fine, but don't overstep certain boundaries. I detest murder, political assassinations belong in that category.

It's just hard to know the truth regarding Smolensk, as there obviously people trying to take out both the twins, behind the scenes.

And your provocations only prove you to be an provocateur.

Got any other claims with which to infuriate people? Your lack of emotions regarding Polish matters mean that your quite adept at handling emotions or that you have none left for Poland. Which is it? Cause as you see from reactions by those on the right of you politically, most assume one of them

You mean the German officer in the Wehrmacht during World War Two, that tried to assassinate Hitler when it was too late and then tried to arrest SS-members from reacting to his group of German officers coup D'etat, which didn't bear fruit as Hitler survived the assassination attempt? Then Hitler-sons in the Wehrmacht still loyal to him turned on the coup attempters, from trying to sign a peace treaty with the western allies and continue the war with the Soviet Union?

Heard of the guy, he was linked to the Prussian aristocracy (Jünckers) if I am not mistaken. He believed in the true Germany, not the third reich. It was a rather late attempt to save face, to avoid another false accusation of "stabbing" Germany in the back. Which was a myth after ww1 and a lie which the Jünckers gladly supported as it shifted the entire German elites responsibility and that of their Kaiser for the war on to "the Jews". Which Germany as a nation was blamed, quite wrongly as Germany despite having certain democratical tools within it's country was still a Monarchy (non-elective too).

The German public had no say in exchanging their leader before 1918. What happened after 1918 however is another story, which from a modern day perspective is quite an abomination. Germany as a people/nation/it's elites/army/journalists were not ready for such a drastic democratical change.

One only needs to compare it to Poland post-1989 turning from a one party state into a modern democratical republic with an multi party parliament. So far, there haven't been any "Führer" in Poland post 1989 and people trying to brand Kaczyński as one is quite ridiculous. If anyone get's even close to it, it's Piłsudski. Only difference is that he succeeded with his coup d'etat while Hitler failed with his by force.

Ironically, Hitler was able to represent Germany and it's people better then Piłsudski representing Poland and Poles. In formal terms according to rules of democracy. How that worked out we all know very well, still thinking about Poland it still stands the test of time

News / The ruling party in Poland tries to take American owned TV news station off the air [528]

@pawian
Cause the EU is a union of sovereign independent states sharing a common market.

It's like you are saying that there were no conflict between Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Crown of Poland and that Poland was always a centralized state which is pure nonsense.

Poland was a decentralized state before 1926, PPS, Piłsudski and anyone surrendering to the concept of an centralized state went against how Poland has operated in the past.

Just because PRL politicians and those growing up then listened to the critique and propagated an centralized state (for obvious reasons) doesn't mean it's how Poland functions the best.

One would have to be a complete brain dead lunatic to think that one at the top except for Jesus Christ is able to rule in Poland by giving orders and deciding about any laws being set.

Even when Piłsudski reigned in Poland it was thanks to his connections and not some law in place which all Poles listened to diligently.

Doesn't matter if it's Tusk, Kaczyński or who ever that's the head of state or government. It's just a facade for the population basically anyways.

I agree, problem is how journalists earn their money. It's very tempting for journalists to earn money from either tax collection (which the state redistribute from the budget, mainly out of taxes) or rich companies with donations/bribes/backing.

The second the journalists focus on appeasing to the biggest donator, and not the quality of their work or loyalty to their readers. They slowly and gradually will lose readership, keeping up a facade that everything is ok. Only slows down the process, it doesn't fix it.

Unorganized and individual journalists who don't belong to any media company/network without a payroll are easily manipulated by thugs/thug tactics unless they are really brave and know where to find safety without losing their life while also keeping their integrity.

In such situations one is also easily influenced to be partial towards them who saved said journalist.

It's very difficult to be a professional journalist nowadays

State institutions favor the ruling party in general, either they like it or not useally. Some places more then others. Same with the biurokracja (watch "yes prime minister" to get a better understanding)

Just that, with the opposition threatening closing down TVP... Basically motivating all TVP personnel to work against the opposition, rather then just doing their job.

Subtly for sure, unless their boss has party connections with opposition.

Good example is the boss in NRK (Norwegian state television) nobody questions their pro-leftist stance, it's just that most journalists generally vote to the left politically

So people criticize their professionalism rather then political loyalties cause... be realistic. They won't change them

Probably just emotions running wild, looking for excuses as to how it wasn't "their" failure.

Those people have it worse to recuperate emotionally as their easily most disliked in the modern society for obvious reasons

@Ironside
As long as it's mainly Germany that does it through the EU. It's not a problem, just like East Germans moving with soldiers in to Czechoslovakia in 1968.

Germans won't be moving with anything in to Poland militarily for a long time. So it's more important that Germany has a clear head about who invests in to Poland, and not who governs in Poland. It would be beyond stupid to stop German investments/contact as long as nothing is pushed down Poland's throat.

Diplomacy&trade is a key factor now with Germany

After all and since we're talking about rugby, where was the Battle of Waterloo really fought?

Modern day Belgium if I am not mistaken, basically British version of Roman Aristocrats trying to take care of a French Julius Ceasaer with the Prussians closing the deal.

Rugby league? Is that like fantasy football? Where you choose which players you think will perform the best by making your own team? I don't know enough about rugby players to have any chance tho. Unless I invested my time in to it

I know, Scandinavia is basically like a kindergarten with soft pillows under their armpits. Now I love the real life in Poland. Full of adventure :D

Even tho it's one of the safest places in the world ironically.

No need to get riled up about my perception of rugby, I am no expert in it

Congratulations, however that may of course be partly, as much as, or more of a reflection on the other players as your own skills.

We were all amateurs during that one match, with no experience in rugby. It wasn't about skills

What made you think it's about skills? In Norway everyone get's a medal for participation, skill contests aren't a reality past 18. Unless it changed, which I highly doubt.

Well the French were under the English in times of medieval Europe either they like it or not. There is also a reason why I write here in English and not French, French used to be compulsory in my family. Now, not very much so.

Except of those speaking French here on the forum and their enthusiasts. I have very little regard for France, something French or their language. I have met French people in real life, and their men have never seemed impressive to me for one bit.

As a history enthusiast I still haven't gotten over certain things. Despite English football fans behaving badly during their recent match with Germany, the shameful kissing up to Stalin by the labeour government right after ww2. Which communists in Poland always wanted to blame Churchill for, which has been brainwashing propaganda ever since and can hear it echoed by plenty of Poles wether the topic of bad emotions towards the U.K pop up.

It's hard to say that there is anything else but, indifference towards France.

France? What of it? Why even bother mentioning them? They obviously did not care for Gdańsk, why should I know?

I wrote it from my own perspective, when I was a teenager and the gym teacher wanted to see how it would do with the class. It felt great as I easily scored all the time, nobody could stop me.

It was tried only once tho.

I also implied metaphorically at the same time, as Americans basically play locally American football. Even if there are other teams internationally, it's basically only the U.S society that cares about it.

Just like winter sports in Norway, Icehockey in Canada etc. some sports just take a lot of space in different society's

Rugby in English past controlled countries Australia, New Zealand and Ireland etc

The more contact/victories/meaning the greater the attention it gets.

To be fair, guys playing it aren't very frail. No wonder it's gaining popularity in Poland. I tried rugby once, seemed too easy for me. Was fun tho, but if I am the only one liking it. Hard to organize it internationally then.

And increases resistance to high dopamine levels, so to feel as happy/successfully/victorious again.

One doses it more to gain the same amount of feeling again, which wrong. The more rarely one does something, the higher the enjoyment is from doing it.

By reducing the resistance you have for dopamine built inside your body, by reducing the amount time doing it. You build resistance to the time you don't have it (which is most of the time).
