The great mistakes of Poland's history?

It overstretched Polish resources, and exposed it to distant threats it would otherwise be insulated from (Tatars, Ottomans).

Of course not. Having Ukraine was strategicaly advantageous when repelling Tatar or Turkish invasions coz the armies met in Ukraine, not Poland proper.

Over centuries of investment, return on investment amounted to zero

You need to support such statements with professional statistical data established through meticulous research. Without it, you are expressing a private opinion which is probably wrong. :):)

Being involved with the Ukrainians ultimately prevented Poland from focusing on Sweden,

Another blunder. :)) Poles did focus on Sweden all the time. You missed the fact that one Polish king was Swedish and his sons were also kings of Poland. Ukraine had nothing to do with Polish Swedish conflict.

A new post, do not merge with the previous one.

Ukrainians have killed in excess of 1.5M Poles

Yes, because we were conflicted. Poles also didn`t hesitate to kill Ukrainians.
Fortunately, now we don`t cherish any animosities towards each other.

Some brotherhood that is!

Come, skip this miserable propaganda. You won`t change current positive Polish attitude to Ukrainians - it is simply impossible. :):):)

Ukraine has prevented the development of Russo-Polish relations for 400 years,

And without Ukrainian issues, the relations would have flourished?? You are daydreaming or spreading sick propaganda again. Of course they wouldn`t. Russia would have attacked Poland sooner or later coz the constant conquest has always been the primary drive of the Russian Empire - then and now.

advantageous when repelling Tatar or Turkish

Why on Earth would the Turks attack Poland, OVER another country? Seems it would have been Ukraine or Russia's (if we took Ukraine) problem to deal with.

I didn't realize I was back in class. Fine, one day soon, expect it.

Ukraine had nothing to do with Polish Swedish conflict.

Whoa! You are writing new Polish history here. Is this true? Now I must ask you to show me a single authoritative historian who has argued this unorthodox view.

Turks or Russians, the same. :):) Invasion is invasion, no matter who does it. And Muscovites, conquering the Duchy of Lithuania, would directly endanger Poland.

authoritative historian who has argued this unorthodox view

Poland had issues with Sweden after one Swedish royal became the king of Poland in 1587. It later led to first wars with Sweden from 1601 - 1629. When the Swedish -Polish king died, his Polish Swedish sons ruled Poland and they also had issues with Sweden.

So, Ukraine had nothing to do with those brawls.

@pawian

Ok if you are lazy I will spell it out.

1) Khmelnitsky Uprising
2) The Ukrainians begin appealing for Russian help against Poland, after Poland initially crushes their rebellion.
3) Russia enters the war on the side of the rebels
4) Russia occupies Smolensk, Vilnius, most of Belarus, and left bank Ukraine.
5) Sweden smells weakness, and invades from the Northwest with its armies stationed in Pomerania.
6) Torn between two fires, Poland collapses in what is known as the Deluge.

You want to continue insisting that Ukraine is not involved with Sweden's invasion?

The events like the Muscovite and Swedish invasion you mentioned did take place, indeed. However, they would have taken place anyway, no matter if Poland was in alliance with the Duchy of Lithuania or wasn`t. :):):)

You want to continue insisting that Ukraine is not involved with Sweden's invasion?

Of course. With or without Ukraine under Polish control, Sweden or Russia would have attacked anyway. :):):) SUCH A PLACE, SUCH TIME.
