"History likes to repeat itself in Poland" I have read on a few sites. I just wonder, what does it mean?

Do they mean politcally or where does it come from? Does history like to repeat itself in Poland?

"History likes to repeat itself in Poland"

Some people learn from their mistakes.

Others are doomed to repeat them for eternity.

Others are doomed to repeat them for eternity.

Young American morons are in the third group - hellbent on restoring the USSR in the US in all of the bad aspects. Putin can just sit back and watch with glee...

@Novichok
This thread isnt about what is happening anywhere else. I asked a question directly regarding this saying about Poland.
Please keep the thread about that and not something else.

@Bobko
Well it has to be politcally/culturally right? I dont think any other area or aspect of society could have such an impact as to create its own saying.

Do you know anything about this saying that i posted in the OP?

@Smietanka

To me it is an obvious statement regarding the tragic history of Poland - in many ways defined by its great pride.

"History likes to repeat itself in Poland"

"Historia lubi się powtarzać w Polsce"? Never heard it in my life, 90% of which I spent in Poland.

Okey, thank you for the input!

Bobko:

So hardship then, overcome by the spirit of the polish people you could say?

So hardship then, overcome by the spirit of the polish people you could say?

I would say the key element is the cyclicality of it all.

Does history like to repeat itself in Poland?

Why just in Poland? Stupidity is international - more so today than at any other time in the history of mankind. You know...smartphones, the internet...

I would say the key element is the cyclicality of it all.

...based on the biology of having kids.

For better or worse, when they reach 17, their parents turn into total imbeciles. This forces the young geniuses to reinvent the wheel and everything else. That's why the worst of humanity is always found at colleges and universities doing "social studies".

It's hard to be a raving lunatic moron studying STEM.

History likes to repeat itself in Poland -

Not only in Poland. Everywhere. It is an international saying.

However, Poles tend to use this saying often coz certain peculiar things do happen twice here.E.g., PIS came to power twice. And they lost it twice, too, due to the anti-rightist ferment in the nation.

Poles also say: the chuckle of history. It means that suddenly the traditional views on history are turned upside down and new ones arise.

Not only in Poland. Everywhere

History repeats itself everywhere, of course, but with the word Poland this thread won't end up in off topic. It was a brilliant play of śmietanka.

"Historia lubi się powtarzać w Polsce"? Never heard it in my life

Me neither and I'm Polish, born in Poland and I have lived all my life in this country... Of course, someone may choose to put such a twist on this saying by adding "in Poland" or some other country, but normally people just say "Historia lubi się powtarzać":
