Life / Customer Service in Poland, what are your experiences? [106]

I assume U r a Pom

There is your first mistake. :) Or is it second? I am losing track. It's like watching your favourite tv show standing outside Rumbelows it's dark, don't go in there she's going in he's going to kill her look he's hiding behind the couch i'm sure he was holding a knife oh god don't go in or at least put the light on looking through half closed eyes now.

Phew it's a surprise birthday party.

Le client n'a jamais tort apparently so he either gets a cake if his pizza is not delivered within thirty minutes or it means that no one demands to see a passport before taking the order pepperoni for all even non EU nationals. :)

UK, Ireland / Staffordshire Bus Crash [6]

Somebody was driving to fast me thinks!!!!

Maybe, maybe not. Alton isn't too far from where I used to live and if it's the hill I think they're talking about, then it's tackled best by Alain Robert and even he'd think twice. Give it Second. Second? It doesn't even want First. Getting out and pushing is always an option. :)

I'd say let the Accident Investigators rule out faulty mechanics before we blame the human element especially if it was of the Knotty bus ilk.

how informative, i could has come out with that speil

Then hop to it Jimmy Olsen. A decent spell check and the writing world will be your lobster and no you dont spell tact with a K. :)

dies and recovers well

Die and recover. Isn't that what they call pulling a Lazarus? :)

Can you suggest a suitable mantra then

Don't worry about the war. It's all over but the shooting. Field Marshal Haig I think and anyway it was good advice. :)

Feedback / Mods: why is my request removed each time? [36]

Helena the first thing you have to realise there are no rules. It is best to chant that to yourself over and over as you post. That's rule 1 obviously.

Expect it to be moved and or deleted and delight in your victories when after 24 hours they still are where you left them. That's the Car Key Rule. :)

Take this paradox:

the title must reflect the content of the post

Aha! That sounds fairly straight forward. Now we're getting somewhere. Test to destruction, the old engineering motto.
So if I want a translation then let's see. What should I write?

1st draft: Translation Please For A Letter To A Polish Friend?

Well it covers what I want and reflects the content of my post. Sounds good.

But we can do better. Can't we? :)

posting in Translations then we already know you want a translation.

According to that we can.

2nd draft: Well it's still a letter, so that has to stay. It's still being addresed to a friend, so that's got to stay. They're still Polish unless they've changed nationality in the time it's taken me to come up with this title which I admit could be a possibility.

No i'm staying positive.
Ok so far so good.
But! I'm in the translation forum, so they know that I must want a translation. To Assume makes an ass out of you and me (no offence osiol) but in this case we're safe, we're only following orders if anyone asks. :)

Letter for a Polish Friend please?

Hmm that's going to draw smart alec comments. I can see the replies now. Which letter would he/she like, how about £ etc?

3rd draft: Letter For A Friend please?

Yes that's better. It's a letter, it's to a friend and we know it's to a Pole and a translation. But there is still something wrong. I can sense a mod would be all over this. It sounds like we're heading into the Niger Delta.

What can we do? I'll come at it from a different angle (matron).

4th Draft: Going On A Boat Excursion

Well it reflects the content alright, but isn't that false advertising? All these people opening the thread to wish me luck and to remind me politely to take my life jacket (they're a considerate bunch) will feel short changed when they realise I want a translation. A mod might even move it for being misleading.

Hang on!

5th draft: This one is the winner, why didn't I think of it before.

How Do I Say: Does your mother visit you often? If she has plans to visit you in September, it would be wonderful if she could come when I am there. I'd be so delighted to meet her again. In fact, we could all go on a boat excursion for a day, or a half day: us three, or take the children and your husband too?

Of course. :)

A good subject/topic title should be unique and precisely reflect the content of the message. It should not contain unnecessary words, special characters, or fluff. A good title should be straightforward, short, and to the point; the reader should be able to determine what the topic is about by reading a topic title only.

Hmm so, I've just done all that for nothing then? Ok if I just write Translation Please For A Letter To A Polish Friend? will that do?

No? Oh now i'm confused. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Read these titles.

Yes, there is an idea. I'll do that. Thanks.

5 translations in a hurry: I like you but I'm shy

wow Speed Translating. I can't even speak Polish that well. It's ok to be shy though by the way. I'm sure you're lovely, but can we concentrate on the job in hand i'm on the clock here?

Help translating instructions

You too?

postcard translation please

Yep, that sounds a lot like:

Translation please for a letter to a Polish friend?

That reminds me do the Poles have a word for Matryoshka? :)

God bless the Apple.

I'm not sure sure about that, he's still smarting from the last time malum. First it's a MacIntosh Spartan, last seen at Newton Pippen Cross then it's Spartan Macintosh with their mp3 players and irritatingly catchy tv advertisements.

Circle of life Scrumptious :)

Love / Polish Gay Life [142]

it is not about sex.

I'm with you so far, just. :)

The government is good for tax laws

Now we're heading into the murky world of lawyers without a change of footwear, this is brave pioneering stuff.
Governments rule by the consent of the people who can't consent until an age when the government says they can. You can't just blithely say governments are only good for taxs but leave our parades alone. That's going to confuse some Beavers not to mention their spiritual leader. Perhaps that's where they got the idea from? I digress :)

private things such as sex is nobody's bussiness and that applies to all sexual orientations.

I thought it wasn't about the sex and I must admit I am starting to worry, normally I wouldn't say anything, but there is a man a few doors down, he's always just in shot when the local school kicks out and i've heard rumours he's a little too friendly with the local wildlife in a non RSPCA approved way, should I notify the authorities? He doesn't want a parade though, so that's a relief. In fact he seems to be a Roy Orbison impersonator. Lots of them around. :)

History / WW2: Britain Declares War on Germany to Save Poland [290]

right now im thinking

Well to aid you in that thought process:

Finland fought three wars: the Winter War alone against the Soviet Union, the Continuation War with Germany against the Soviet Union, and the Lapland War alone against Germany.

and as I pointed out your statement in bold:

Finland was an enemy of the third reich

*cough* I think you meant Ally until late 1944 then you're correct. :)

History / WW2: Britain Declares War on Germany to Save Poland [290]

1940:Defeat against Wehrmacht in France. Rescue in Normandy due to Hitler's generosity.

The BEF had a lucky escape. True.

1941:Defeat against Wehrmacht in Norway

Operation Claymore or Archery? Both were Commando raids designed to disrupt and tie up German materiel. Both were very successful if memory serves.

1941:Defeat against Wehrmacht in Greece

The British expressly stated they could not provide enough manpower to repluse any German attack. That being the case, it's hardly surprising.

1941:Defeat against Wehrmacht in Kreta

Freyberg (Enzedder btw) and his troops inflicted heavy losses on the Fallschirmjäger during the battle, to such an extent that Hitler never allowed another Airborne operation to be carried out. They were beaten yes, but were beaten more by mistakes in command and control, rather than superior opposition.

I notice you missed out the defence of Malta

1942:Defeat against Wehmacht in Tobruk.Surrender of british divisions.

I notice you call them British but make the distinction about Australians and Enzedders later. The division the DAK captured was South African and Tobruk capilutated mainly due to the RN's inability to keep the garrison supplied.

Sluggish progress against Wehrmacht in Italy despite superior supplies and american ammunition and despite plenty of american, new Zealand and Australia forces

Now you're being facetious. The Gustav Line, Monte Cassino, The Bernhardt Line the Senger Line and the Ceaser Line. If you want to call the progress 'slow' then you must blame the Polish second Corps, which did the majority of the fighting at Cassino amongst others. I would personally call it back breaking and heroic.

1944:Stuck up against Wehrmacht for two months in Caen despite air superiority, superior numbers of soldiers, despite american help.Unable to proceed at all at Normandy front

The quality of the German troops here was phenomenal. The Canadians and Brits tasked with taking the city did a very good job against a fanatical foe.

1944:Elimination against Wehrmacht in Arnhem

I'm actually bored now but lightly armed paratroopers holding out against the 2nd Panzer Corps for a week and only withdrawing after the linkup forces including Polish 3 para could not get across the Rhine. Shall we blame the Poles again? Or shall we say it was just a Bridge Too Far? Cheque's in the Post Dirk.

Ardennes

That'll be the Americans then. :)

Love / how can i get him to fall in love with me again? [43]

AMAB

Perquod? That's French for having a Whale of a time apparently. Thought it might be useful. Talking of that I once met a legless Mariner ancient naturally in a Cornish pub. Unhand me you loon he cried as some Chavs pushed his wheelchair out of the door and left him teetering precariously at Portland Bill. Poor chap beside himself with rage then they left him on the cliffs.

move on to chase someone else and forget

Sound Advice. Can I call you Ishmael? :)

Trust me -- this works!

The Association for Pushers of the Don't Push Me Button and other Vacuous Undertakings yesterday released the findings of their study into following any advice ending on trust me -- this works. The report concluded that they had found the findings were inconclusive but decided to do it anyway. The report concluded 80% of the participants had experienced feelings of regret.

Good luck Blingin.
