Love / Are Polish women too controlling? [106]

And how do you know this exactly? I beg to differ. Try coming to Silesia and test your theory out. You may be disappointed. Many women here are hardnuts and will squash you if you let them.

Mediterranean or Balkan? To me, Greece and Italy are Mediterranean and Balkan is upwards of Macedonia. The border is near Ohrid I'd say.

I must agree, being a Greek-Pole I have spent much time in Greece&Italy and the women there are MUCH more stuck up and hardened to the core. In Poland I was able to get along better.

USA, Canada / Any Polish high schools in Chicago/Chicago area... [12]

hahaha ok first of all there are alot of highschools in Chicago for the Polish community where the lessons are taught in Polish. I am talking about the city not suburbs.

Can you post a few? I know of Polish schools where they teach in Polish and teach the actual languages mostly to Polish people and exist as a replacement to pre-school or elementary school, however, these schools don't compensate high schools. High schools can teach certain foreign languages and they can also teach courses bilingually.

USA, Canada / Any Polish high schools in Chicago/Chicago area... [12]

You mean polish school for learning the language? Or a high school dedicated to a certain ethnicity group? I believe those don't exist anywhere in the US.

Life / Haunted Homes in Poland [173]

A co-worker said that her husband had to sleep with the lights on for a few nights after seeing it, but I'm still not interested.

Well it was Hollywood made, with implementations of looking home-made. Personally, knowing it was fake it didn't really scare me.

Have you looked, honestly? or are you trying to make a point without knowing the facts?

He has a point, that's one of the most dis-respectful things you could run in a business. Anyway, back on topic. Has anyone seen the popular American horror film Paranormal Activity? It's based on this very topic and got many high ratings. Reply if you would like a copy.

Genealogy / What nationality is Slavic? [23]

What do you mean? By culture or genetics? By culture, Poles are themselves with their own culture and language, just like most slavic countries have their own. I have spoken to Ukrainians and Russians about Polish culture and they claim it to be very much different than their own.

As for genetics, not all Slavic nations have the same genetics, each one has a significant compose of it's own in haploids (genes used to determine ethnicity).

southern:
All Poles are Slavs....

65% Max

Bratwurst boy is very much correct here, almost all if not all genetic tests done on Polands ethnical haploids points out that two major haplogroups dominate Poland: The Slavic and Tartaric. It's around those numbers that Bratwurstboy mentioned.

Life / BEING POLISH MEANS....? [18]

Being Polish means driving a German car with the radio playing US pop hits to the French-owned supermarket to buy plastic jack-o-lanterns and Halloween masks for the kids' Halloween party at school as well as hot dogs, frozen pizza, popcorn, Bulagrian wine and Hungarian salami to have something to munch on while sitting on Swedish furniture in front of the Korean TV set to watch American-licenced TV game shows and sitcoms.
Comments, clarifications, additional examples???

Globalization.....get used to it.

Also The Bulgarian and French are mere probability. Almost every country in Europe makes wine and anyone can own a supermarket. Also there aren't that many French in Poland. :-p

Life / Polish Kids - Polish speaking? Bilingual? only English? [56]

live in France, my mother is Polish and my father is French.

Just like my hero Fryderyk Chopin!

Anyway I am half Greek and half Polish. My mother was born in Poland and Father in Greece and they came here (my entire family is still back in Europe). Anyway. I speak English fluently, Greek fluently, but my Polish is rough. I only learned what I could from my mother. I do wish to master the language though someday.

The important luanguages to learn now are Spanish and Chinese.

Hm, not really.

Love / Do not marry Polish woman [212]

what was their motivation not to kill the king and queen? they thought their race would have ended if they killed them? half work not a work.

they were probably in shock.

They wanted to save them for the trial and genuine guillotine execution.

guards under order not to shoot - very humanitarian indeed.

They had guns? I thought they just had pikes, which is what they used to put the guards' heads on with make up to celebrate them outside versailles afterwards.

Have you been there?

Yes, I have vistied France and Versailles (and the palace) as a tourist. It's quite nice, that picture I provided isn't mine though. As for the occurences I went over, well they were documented by the thousands that were there and witnessed it. It made newspapers and the literature world in France (especially Paris). Even though there was much media that was being biased at the time since the revolution was turmolt upon keeping people ravaged. I remember there was this famous Parisian (don't rmemeber the name) who wrote fake tales of the revolutionaries, nobles, clergy, and certain hierarchy to get them killed and to cause more tension throughout France through the papers. Eventually this was found out by a woman who killed him while he was taking a bath and she was then guillotined herself. Epic times, lol.

Life / What is the nature of Polish people's hygiene? [76]

Generally speaking North American hygiene standards are higher than European. Sorry to say but the French are the worst offenders, especially household upkeep).

Evidence?

Nonsense. Unless you are going to perform surgery in your basement you don't need extra strong antiseptic soap. Regular one will do. Those strong ones have an alcohol in them and they are drying your skin.

That's what I used to say until I took Microbiology at the university level and put this very subject matter to the test. I saw the bacterial difference with my very own eyes.

Love / Do not marry Polish woman [212]

Ah yes indeed Versailles! I have been there myself as a tourist. Apparently this was one of the MANY halls of the palace and was known as the hall of mirrors. Yes indeed all those poor peasants living under a loaf of bread a week broke in during the French Revolution, decapitated the guards, and killed everyone except the king and queen. Indeed they saw, and they were in shock but then that turned into fierce anger and disgust.

History / Responsibility for Murder of Catholic Poles during WWII ? [172]

Surely, Hitler/Himmler and Stalin did see Polish Catholicism as an inferiority in the Polish society, however regardless of what Poland was religiously, they would have most likely done the same things that they did. So I agree, the Catholic part is irrelevant.

News / NEW PATRIOT MISSILES FOR POLAND [178]

... and yet Americans don't try and kill each other a couple of times a century. (Well the white ones don't anyway). This kind of ruins all your fancy tech advances, no? You see Professor, smart people don't constantly make war on themselves and kill themselves. Millions and millions of people died in WWI and WWII basically for the sole purpose of the European ego. This is not the hallmark of smart people. European just had problems again in the 90's. You will always want to kill each other. It's laughable in the extreme.

You know America was founded on Europeans. Secondly, why are you blaming the Poles and other countries? Fine I'll stay in this century, it was the Germans with their fanatic Nazism and the Russians with their Stalinist regime that did most of the killing. I really don't see how the Poles aren't "refined" enough to be peaceful like Americans. It's not their fault they were stuck between two manic countries. Do I go around saying that American's are barbarians because they ram planes full of innocent people into buildings since there were Islamic terrorists immigrated within the United States?

News / Does Poland benefit from an Eastern, Western, or individualistic alliedship? [40]

My question reflects the current situation and landlock that Poland finds itself in from the political and economic stance. We saw this with the missile guidance system withdrawal and economic trade factors of both government/military levels and domestic levels. Truth is, where does Poland benefit more? From structuring a more connected future with the East, with Russia. The West, with the EU stronghold and the U.S.? Or keeping to itself?

My contention for the East speaks for itself. Poland in modern times cannot be denied that it has been helped much by its Russian neighbors. Masses within the military arsenals contain Russian made vehicles, tanks, and aircraft. Nearly over a quarter of Poland's energy comes from Russia. Also with Russian mass industries providing to the east (e.g. Gazprom), you have the majority of Poland?s resources like gas, coal, steel, and so forth coming from Russia. All of which could be easily cut off if Poland chooses to make a move forth with the West which would be something like installing a missile defense system; something of which the Kremlin has already shown mass opposition to. It is also obvious that the West would most likely not make up for these resources would Poland be to lose them. Of course, these industrials would be cut off due to the fact that the vast majority of Russia's resources are state-owned. Surely, Russia is a hassle of a partner economic and political wise, however you cannot deny that their allied ship is a valid one. As for the missile defense system, it's obvious that Russia wants to keep the upper-hand in military advantage around the area, and Medvedev/Putin have noted that such a system would be opposed if it were to be installed in any Eastern country (Poland isn't being "picked on"). We see how hard other countries such as Ukraine are currently situated, that are paying nearly double for their gas/resources than the Poles are and that have an overall bad reputation in the Kremlin. However, Ukraine is also a fine example of how Russian dominance can turn faces and be used as a political leash of unresolving power.

My contention for the West is that the West is better trusted. However what they have to offer in terms of resource might not be the best. Up to now the EU has already put weights on the Polish government, which are hard and economically harrowing. Such as forcing the Euro or forcing all Polish central banks to merge with EU central banks. Something which Poland isn't ready for and that the EU only cares about its self-capitalizing interest. Also with such economics into play, would the EU and U.S. be able to sell Poland the economic and military resource it needs that it would lose from Russia? We have already seen instances where Poland hasn't taken it's deserved "piece of the cake" for what it has offered. With the Polish aid in Iraq, the mentioning of such aid has been forgotten. In both of President Bush?s speeches on foreign aid in Iraq he had completely forgotten to mention the Polish aid, and Polish soldiers were dying on the battlefield. Under NATO, there have been many operations upon which the Poles were under resourced and under represented. Under a NATO pact, France was to give Mirage planes, and Germany Leopard tanks and Poland (which has quite a large army) only received a mere fraction of what other nations received. However, on the contrary it is estimated that if Poland were to go into war, that the West and NATO/EU allied ships would do a better job of defending Poland than would the Russians whom have shown little interest in getting involved with military agendas that is other than their own. Also, with Poland?s increasing economy (due to the communist collapse) we can expect Poland's economy to be capitalized enough to support such resource and trade demands from the EU that now seem like strains.

My third contention is an individualistic Poland. According to all the news sources I have read on Poland and European economics, Poland's economy this year will be the only one in Europe, which hasn't been affected by the recession and will be increasing. (Both HDI and GDP wise.) The consumer rates are high and the position for employment is escalating with the unemployment rates having decreased from the 8% it was a couple years ago down to 6.5% as of this year. GDP growth for this year is a whole 5%, while for all other European countries it's a negative percentage of several points. (i.e. Italy is -7%). The export rates and import rates have increased substantially, and the poverty rate has gone from the 15% it was a couple years ago down to 10% (one of the lowest in Europe). All this has been done by Poland alone. So the final argument rests; is Poland best on it's own? Possible, the only ties it needs are economic ones based on industries and corporations and nothing more. Poland itself needs no outside help if so. If history has taught us anything, hasn't Poland benefited the most when other countries kept out of it's soil and business? Possibly a hypocritical statement in modern times, but the numbers do not lie.

So these are my three contentions, please discuss, add our own, and give me your full out opinion.

Thanks for reading!

News / What is the future of Catholic church in Poland. [154]

That is true, but that still defines them as believers. I have met some Catholics whom are spiritualist or pantheistic, and don't believe EVERYTHING in the catholic faith. But yea, regardless of the high faith of the society, I think they too want a separation of religion and state for a better democracy.
