Genealogy / Mogila and Czyzyny towns in Poland [10]

I did some more research and found a tiny village called Mogiła. It's south of the city Zamość and close to the Russian border. It belonged to Russia at one time.

There is also a Mogiła, a district of Kraków, same as Czyżyny.
Villa means Village, or district. In Polish it's a Wieś, small village in the country. That's why they say Wieś Mogiła meaning Villa Mogiła. Here are two churches in Mogiła:

Life / Poles need to learn to save! [73]

The best mall is the Mall Of America in Minnessota. You can Walk and walk and walk and there's still more to see.
That's where I'll take my polish bf. (Whenever that will be). We'll have some fun in there...hahahaha

I hate diet sodas. That is the worst stuff you can have. The Aspartamine, Saccarine and all those artificial sugars are cancer causing and mood alterers.

The stuff they feed cows in America makes you wonder if you even want to drink milk!! Those hormones particularly have bad side effects on females. Whole milk has more of those hormones than 2%.

The malls in the US are a good thing and a bad thing. You can walk all day and it's good exercise. But then when you get hungry...and....watch out! there's MC DONALD'S waiting for you!!!!!

Life / Poles need to learn to save! [73]

When I was little, my parents raised goats and we would drink goats milk. My father was into nutrition and healthy living. We would drink carrot juice everyday and rarely got sick.

In the country in Poland people drink milk straight from a cow and all the fat is in it. Some make their own butter. And they are not obese.

I find it funny in America that obese women drink diet sodas and skinny ones drink the regular stuff.

Life / What breeds of dogs are now popular in Poland? [40]

During my last few visits to Poland I noticed quite a lot of pit bull terriers.

I have noticed them too. They have gained a lot of popularity in the last few years. I personally don't like them. I think they are very ugly, and in the USA they are considered a dangerous breed. They have to be brought up properly. It's in them, that once they attack and see blood, they can't stop. There are many instances where they kill babies. Not long ago, a 10 year old girl was mauled by a pit-bull here in Wisconsin. She went to a friends house and the dog had pups. She picked one up and the mother dog attacked and killed the girl.

I don't trust pit-bulls.
I have collies. Those things are very gentle with kids. They won't growl, and if they don't like something, the'll move away but won't harm a child. Kids look in their eyes, open their mouths, check out the teeth, the toungue and the dog will just sit there.

Life / Are Polish People Racist? [1037]

Hey kurrrrrrrrrrrrwa, how did you come up with that name?
We were ripped off in Poland too. It's this money thing. Some people want more and more and will get it dishonestly if they can. And it's like that all over the world.

But there are honest people too.

Life / Polish Parents are controlling [58]

I've been with my mother for two years since I had a car accident and have lost everything, my house, car, job, health, husband divorced me because I was paralyzed, cheated on me, etc. But before that I had my own house and I wasn't in her hair all the time and now all my junk is in her place. We don't fight because I avoid that, and she likes the company but she thinks differently than I do because she had different experiences while growing up. I grew up in Poland and I think differently than people in USA. I think the Polish way.

But I sometimes shut up. It's her house I have nothing to say.

Life / Polish Parents are controlling [58]

You're funny Matyjasz.
No, of course not all Polish mothers are like that. I'm a Polish mother and I'm totally opposite from my mother. It's this generation gap. My parents grew up during the war and they experienced hardship, death, loss, starvation and many other things we don't experience at this age and time.

My friends' American parents are not like that at all. But the ones with Polish grandmothers are the same way.

Language / What to use: Marcin vs. Martin [6]

I know a guy who came from poland, his name is Błażej. They call him Blaze
I know Rafal, they call him Rafael
Wiesław - is called Wiselaw.
On the other hand.........
I know a Marek. He changed it to Mark.
I know a Ryszard, he changed it to Richard.
So, you can keep the Polish spelling and:
a.) have your name misspronounced
b). Teach others how to pronounce it correctly
c.) You can stand out with a foreign name
d). You can feel cool that your name is different

I would keep the Polish spellings if you have deep roots in Poland and are proud of your heritage. Who cares what others think. Nowadays there are so many made-up names in USA that one more different spelling won't make a difference.

I have a friend who's son's name is Skylor. I know a girl whose name is Skylor. A friends son's name is Dayton.I know an Aiden..

ooops, fell asleep in front of the computer. Lost my thought. Good-night!

Life / Polish Parents are controlling [58]

OMG. That is so sad.
You have to look ahead because we will all die and the pitiful things that we're going through on Earth mean nothing against the vast universe.

When I was in school in Poland we had these "pamiętniki" - "remembrence books" where we would write each other stuff. And there was one that I paticularly remembered:

"Kochaj serce matki, póki jest przy tobie,
bo za późno będzie wtedy, kiedy będzie w grobie".

Thanks Patrycja.

Life / Are Polish People Racist? [1037]

And there you go.
They have their reasons. They went through hell during the war, it was a big impact on them and they will never forget the horrors of war where all the family members were murdered, children, people tortured. My parents and aunts and uncles are the same way.My grandmother would hate the Russians because she grew up under Russian regime.

People in America didn't experience such horrors as concentration camps. But some still re-live the civil war and a few Southerners don't like when the Northerner's go south for winter. Or some black people still re-live the fact that they were slaves to white people at one time. It goes on from generation to generation.

Kids now play with black people, vietnamese, chinese and for them it's normal to see different types of people from an early age. But for people who haven't seen many people that are different, they will stare. The younger generation thinks differently than the older.

Life / Polish Parents are controlling [58]

You guys are absolutely awsome! I never knew where this topic would get me, but it makes me feel better knowing that you all have mothers!

Whenever we go to a restaurant my mom always complains that the food is bad, it's undercooked, it's overcooked, it's too hard, too soft, too salty, not enough salt, no matter how good it would she always has to find something wrong.

And whatever I do, her way is always better.
Thanks for the good advise Aniah about moving out because it is coming to that.

Thanks for the advise wolfie. Many old Polish women are like that. They think they know everything and want to tell you what to do.

But as corny as this sounds, it feels good to talk to someone.
Thanks for being such an understanding friend.

Life / Polish Parents are controlling [58]

My mother is driving me crazy.!!
I'm an adult woman yet she says I'm on the computer all day. I clean the stupid house, take care of my dumb animals, do laundry, take care of my children, cook and when I get tired I want to sit for a minute and right away I'm on the computer all f^^ing day!! Now with the bad weather there is not much to do outside so You need to do something. I don't like sitting in front of the TV. She does, she plays cards on her computer, never cleans the house, doesn't take care of kids, animals yet she says stuff like that. When I get a call she has to know who it's from. When I get mail she has to check who's sending it and bends the envelope to see what's inside. When I go somewhere she has to know where I'm going. That woman is driving me crazy!! She is a very controlling old Polish woman. She feels I have to do what she thinks is right. I am temporary out of a house and stay with her.

There. That makes me feel better. Sorry for this but that's how I feel. Wish I had a shoulder to cry on....

Travel / Stories about your travels [12]

On one of my trips from Poland to USA I took my dog, cat and canary. We took a freight ship. It was Febuary. Waters were icing up the boat and there was danger of it sinking, so we would travel around the frozen ice-bergs and instead of 11 days of travel, it took us 21 days. The last day on the ship, the ocean was so bad, we had to tie the canary cage and the dog and cat jumped into bed. We made friends with the crew, as there was room for only 12 passengers, we steared the ship with them while the captain was away. They blamed everything on my cat, because cats at sea bring bad luck.

Life / What is your favourite comedy (also Polish)? [63]

I know, he's so serious when he says it. Of course, he never can be seroius. I like when he went to Europe on vacation and got stuck in a "rondo" and kept going in circles trying to get out. He's funny.
