Life / Polish Integration with other Nationalities [150]

And there goes fascism. To complain is a right, and fun one too!

So you are complaining and therefore you are a fascists?

That's usually how society progresses, one group complains until their condition is improved, your thinking just totally derailed on that one!

So far you have been complaining about booze stores being open too long for your tatste. You have been also complaining that Poland is not multicultural enough, which is funny, considering the fact that the in many aspects of its societal composition US became multicultural because people were kidnapped in far away countries and brought to the US as slaves. Poland had no colonies so Poles did not bring slaves to the country.

And while interracial communities are not paradises, (New York is no paradise,) neither are homogenous communities, where outsiders trying to experience or learn something new are persecuted, sometimes physically attacked.

You have the right to learn, but you are a visitor so behave as such. If you come to a home you should be treated with utmost respect. But when you start moving the furniture around and start inviting others without your host's permission then you are an intruder, and you deserve a kick in the as.s as you are forced out through the door (a window is fine too).

n Jews in New York complain that some punks sprayed swastikas on their homes, or when black teachers complain because some more punks hang nooses on their door-knobs, Z_Darius would say "well if you don't like it you can get the fvck out!"

Nope. I would say: keep that mess at home and don't try to bless Poles with the "benefits" of your multicultural city. Poles don't need interracial riots like those in Brooklyn or Queens. They can riot perfectly well. Just go to almost any soccer game.

As I wrote before, change is the only inevitable thing, and so Poland will likely change in years/decates to come. For now it is what it is and I'm glad.

And again, if you don't like the way Poland is then the solution is simple. Just start walking in any direction. Eventually you will cross the border and relieve yourself of the duty nobody in Poland asked you to burden yourself with. That may also bring you closer to home where you have the full right to work towards the changes it needs.

USA, Canada / Come to Polish Carousel in Windsor! [6]

That's Windsor, near Slough.

Looks like she means Windsor, Ontario. Nothing exciting there on a daily basis, and if that's not bad enough then downtown Detroit is on the other side.

Life / Polish Integration with other Nationalities [150]

I think, why should it be, just because every other country has the united nations at its bus stops, i dont see the reason why Poland should have to join the party if they dont want to! It isnt a very good party!

That was my point too and my comment wasn't directed specifically to you.

The "multiracial is good" crowd tends to forget how some of those paradises for all ethnic groups became so racially "tolerant". Colonies and slave trade anybody?

But there are countries where non-native races abound, even though those countries had no colonies. A lot of people in those countries are taking a second look. Look at Sweden. It's a disaster. A few years ago Swedish police were looking for a murder suspect. They gave a detailed description of the suspect but failed to mention one small detail - the suspect was black. They couldn't because it would be deemed racially prejudicial.

Poland is fine the way it is and I have nothing to add here, other than reaffirm this suggestion - if you don't like it then get the fvck out of there. I say the same to Poles (and others) who complain about Canadian ways.

Love / Polish man- why they do not make a move?? [25]

I have a colleague from work I like but I have no idea if he is just beeing nice or if he is interested !

Could it be that in this day and age it just scares the living crap out of many decent men to make the first move. Some have honest romantic intention and the next thing they know they are accused os sexual harassment.

Wherever I worked in the last 10 years (mostly large corporations) they had an employee manual - general rules, dress code and $hit were important, but one chapter had to be actually read aloud during the first day of employment. Then a bunch of forms had to be signed that the employee fully understood what sexual harassment was, even what they called, "in very subtle forms".

Guess how many felt like picking up a date with someone at work? :)

Life / Polish Youth - are they violent? [71]

although i hear that there are a lot of Hooligans in most of the big cities, and that they are pretty racist.

Put it in perspective. Poland IS a white country and it's a fact. Whether you consider it good or not is your private issue. What Poles think about it is their issue too.

There are probably more racially diversified people in Poland now, but just to give you an idea about what you are into - until I left Poland in 1987 I saw 3 (that's three) black people in Poland. One was at the airport, the other two were students in the University I went to.

What you see in Poland now is not necessarily worse than say, Astoria (Greek and Italian parts) or Whitestone in late 80's/early 90's. A black fella was not able to buy a house in Whitestone. The neighbors would rather set the house on fire (and they did). Where I lived in Astoria you would not see a black person, except for a delivery truck driver, certainly not after dusk. Heck, as Pole I needed a recommendation from a Greek guy to be able to rent an apartment there.

Change takes time, and I see that's what was needed in some of the parts of NYC that I knew to be very racially tense and uncompromising.

Life / Polish Integration with other Nationalities [150]

I just wonder when religion started being a race...

Long time ago. Take a closer look at the Old Testament, and some more recent approaches for that matter.

My question though is: why ask about Polish Integration with other Nationalities? How about other nationalities integrating with Poles?

Love / POLISH MAN-WOMAN JOKES [3]

this is the one that might be hard to translate for full effect:

Son working on a crossword puzzle.
- Dad, a slit in a woman, starts with P....?
- Down or across?
- Across...
- That'll be "phiz".

A romantic evening.
The boy whispers those words to the girl's ear:
- Please, say those words that will unite us forever.
- I'm pregnant.

Why do women simulate orgasms?
Because they think men care.

Women can be divided into 3 categories:
- beautiful
- faithful
- beautiful, faithful and inflatable.

Why so few women play soccer?
Because it's not easy to make so many of them to agree to wearing identical clothes.

Mommy, what is impotence?
It's like playing pickup sticks with boiled noodles.

Where have you been, dear?
At the beauty salon.
Were they closed?

History / Are Germans going to pay for WW2? [180]

60 mln euro / 218 (Greeks) * 5 mln (Polish citizens killed)

1 376 146 788 990 Euro

roughly half of them Jews, and Germans already paid for those. Kinda.

Besides, sure Germany will pay out E 1 376 146 788 990 because it's just the "right" thing to do.

Then Ukrainians will sue Poles, Poles Ukrainians, Indians may sue Poles too because Pulaski and Kosciuszko contributed to the demise of the American natives. Of course we could also sue Swedes, Finns could sue Russians, Russians can sue Mongolia (although it would be cheaper to just invade it) and Czechs can sue Poland for Prague. We should definitely sue the Vatican, and the Vatican can sue Germans and Poland.

Wouldn't it be easier to actually detonated all those nukes around the world at the same time?

News / France to lift job restrictions on Poles [84]

Not such fools as zdarius the cat seems to fancy. The real reason why the Poles did not benefit from the Marshall Plan appears to be the Soviet despot Stalin.

Strangely, both of us are correct, give or take a technicality or two. Cyrankiewicz was responsible for the refusal. Of course, he did what he did after he saw that Czechoslovakia got in trouble with Stalin for accepting the plan.

History / WAS WAŁĘSA A SECRET POLICE COLLABORATOR? [26]

Big deal. In 1970's he was even younger and dumber than in 1981. And btw. he is the one who had the guts to start and organize the strikes in Gdansk.

I betcha many of those researches kissed commie behinds in the 70's and now they are "holier than though". There were over 3 million part member in Poland. Who knows how many of them are now at IPN.

A large number of company owners in Poland today were none other by little commie fvcks - now big capitalist fishes. And no, they did not deserve to become the owners. They robbed others. Simple as that. I think this is far more important issue to address than one young fella's alleged mistakes.

So it's not strange that Poland hadn't received any.

The reason there was none other but the the communist fools under the soviet boot.
Poland was offered the aid.

Travel / No Polish villages on google earth [13]

You won't find all the villages and towns regardless of the country. I don't have satellite shots of many places I need for work (Niagara Region, Canada) so I use aerial photos. Sometimes though, you will notice that tiniest and least expected villages are available on google maps. For those small places it's a toss.

Love / Why do Polish Women Think They Know Better? [134]

Has anyone else experienced this?

That happens but luckily it's not my daily experience.

ROLF! (it just reminds me of a comment a two guys made (both Polish BTW) abput how Polish women dont age too well)

Again, not my experience. Some advise to look at your potential mother-in-law. You'll have a half decent idea what the future holds ;)

Life / "Why bother!" - Experiences of life in Poland... [47]

They say it's all 'cause there will be more geezers in the years to come, and less younger folks to pay for them. The young ones are not making enough kids to pay for the geezers of the future. An alternative is increased immigration, which might (just might) bite people back in the butt too.

Travel / No Polish villages on google earth [13]

Google buys their images from digitalglobe.com.
IBM has a similar product that is at times more detailed but I forgot the name.
Other than that it's areal photography which sometimes can be obtained from a local municipal GIS department.

Life / "Why bother!" - Experiences of life in Poland... [47]

You guys have been lucky living in UK.

I have been trying to register my car and have just had to pay akcyza of 274zl which is 3.1% based on the original purchase value of the car 4 years ago.

How about 13% of the current market value of the car? The government decides what that is.

If the politicians think that their greatest export (young people) are going to return to Poland with the monies they have earned abroad they should think again.

They may be realizing that, so they charge the taxes. It's not like someone will invest in Poland because vehicle registration might be free.

The anal procedure that got me was that for tax rebates. In Scotland, I got money back without question, no formalities, just a straight return.

The procedure in Canada is straight too. Either pay $50 (or much more) to have a tax return filed, or do it yourself. Tax law is more complicated in Canada than quantum physics.

They have so many hidden charges in banks. My bank charges me 5zł to withdraw my own money. That's about 2 pounds in real terms. WTF?

These aren't hidden charges. And, didn't you ask about terms of service before opening an account?

These compulsory ZUS payments are also stupid. Well, I have no objection to paying the społeczne part as it is social security. I have a healthcare document but I still have to pay 200zł a month, for nothing.

Not sure how it works now in Poland. Is that healthcare document for free? I have one in Ontario too. Depending on the income level you have to pay anywhere from $0 a couple thousand$ a year in addition to your income regular taxes.

What's even worse is, when I finish my 5th year of working in Poland, 5 years of working gives me 6 months towards my pension/retirement. What's the point?

Lucky you. In Canada and the US few hope to get any retirement money at all. And yes, they do deduct social security money nevertheless.

Ah well, there's always the 30% tax rate to look forward to ;)

I wish my taxes went down to 30%.

Life / Anti-spanking law in Poland? [76]

That's pretty barbaric. That kind of think was illegal in Poland more than 30 years ago.

Spanking by parents might be another matter though.

News / "We buy out Poland, Hungary, and Romania!" - the President of Israel [74]

Better that 100,000 Polish families have no house than a foreign company builds the houses?

Those who don't have a house either can't afford it, or can't afford it yet. I doubt that Poland needs any particular foreign company to fix that. There will be always the haves and have nots.

There is a sentiment that tells people those new investments are not for Poles to benefit from (although some undoubtedly will). The thing is that Israel simply cannot survive and I have a feeling countries such as Poland or Romania are among the few feasible options for Israelis to settle.

News / Polish teachers on Strike. [62]

Sadek:
1400 pounds

For that amount of money I will pack my bags straight away and Poland-here I come!

$2700 (1400 pounds, or just over $32,000 per year) is kinda OK, but not really a whole lot. Not enough to emigrate to a different country anyway.
