Australia / Looking for some direction regarding Polish men in Australia [7]

Given that they are shy, I can only gather that they are not sexually aggressive creatures, so in terms of their habits/conduct sexually in Poland, are men accustomed to having a number of partners before marriage (as in Australia) or are they fairly traditional about 'sex'?

Polish women like their men to have experience in this field. Polish men like to impress their women with experience in this field. In Poland sex with a male virgin isn’t a turn on for women, nor it isn’t something that you could be particular proud of and show off with among your friends and colleagues. I hope that this answer will satisfy you. :)

Ok, so aving read some of the other posts that have been written it is fairly clear to me that Polish men are shy....

I would be more careful with making this kind of deductions. You see women that don't have any problems with their polish boyfriends simply don't spend their time searching for help and advice on the internet, but spend it on having some quality time with them. Thus women with some partner problems are more visible than those without them.(without those problems, not polish boyfriends :) )

Pozdrawiam. :)

Life / The Christmas Tree in Poland [25]

I would say that we don't leave anything for Santa on Santa Claus Day.
Usually gifts are just handed over on Dec 6th.

On December 6th here in Wielkopolska Santa brings gifts for the children that have clean shoes. The gifts are usually sweets, and they are being left in the shoes by him at night. If you don't listen to your parents, and don't clean them there's no sweets for you. :)

Study / Entering college in Poland. [23]

I'm thinking of starting some threads about that when I'm going to have some extra free time, but I wasn't sure if people that visit this site are interested in this subject. Now after seeing that there is a person who actually cares I certainly will do it. I think that I will start with vampires.

Pozdrawiam.

Life / Music tastes in Poland [23]

A lot of my polish friends are really into the hip hop scene and trance music etc.....is there a big movement for this in Poland??

Yeah, Hip Hop was very popular few years ago. It still has a strong position on the market, but I guess that it's weakening a little bit, and it isn't that innovative as it used to be. As for trance music, it seems that it was always very popular. :)

There's also a lot of Rock fans here, as myself for example, but the mainstream seems to ignore us. :(

Life / What is your favourite comedy (also Polish)? [63]

You’re welcome. Unfortunately I don't watch films as regularly as I would like to, but I will be always glad to name some interesting new productions for you. Actually I have one already, Wojciech Smarzowski's "Wesele". Again, it's not a typical comedy, but I think that you will really enjoy it. :)

I don't like Lubaszenko at all. But is it his work?

No, of course not. I just hate his films, and by comparing "Pieniądze to nie wszystko" and "Zróbmy sobie wnuka" to his work I was just trying to state that they really are awful. I guess that I will have to work on my English, as it really is confusing sometimes. :)

Life / Celebrities in Poland [27]

I am curious.....can anyone give me an insight into what celebrities are hot right now in Poland???Are Poles into international celebrities as well as homegrown talent??

Basically Poles aren't into the celebrities.

Do polish people respect Roman Polanski-i am a huge polanski fan but a polish friend of mine hates him-has he lost a lot of respect in Poland because of that rape case in the states?

People who really love cinema have a big respect for him. "American Pie" fans are more likely to be critical about his work. :)

PS: Have you seen "Rozbijemy tę impreze!" (eng. "We will crash this party")? If I'm correct this was his first small movie directed at times when he was studying at Wyższa Szkoła Filmowa in £ódz. All students had to do it in order to pass the semester. Polański came up with a brilliant idea to make it about a party, so he invited his colleagues form the studies, bought some alcohol, etc... But what he forgot to mention to them is that he also hired some thugs to come into the party and beat the hell out of it's participants. :) The final of this story is that he was suspended from the school for some time, and that he lost his mates trust never to regain it again. The movie came up pretty good though. :)

Life / Found some Polish Rock bands! [25]

Michał Wiśniewski is the front man of the group "Ich Troje". It's true that you can hear some guitars in their songs, but by calling them rock'n'roll band you may offend some polish rock'n'roll fans. I would rather call them a pop band. They were really huge few years ago here in Poland, probably because they filled the gap left after the popularity decrease of Disco Polo. Generally they are considered as very kitschy. Of course kitschy in a bad way.

There are some of their videos available to download form their official site

ichtroje.pl/index_pl.php?id=download_teledyski&id2=download_menu

And there' some mp3's here, but their "best songs" seem to be missing:

Life / Polish Parents are controlling [58]

My mother isn't like that. People please, don't create new stereotypes.

What will be next? Maybe somebody’s polish boyfriend doesn't take his sox off before sex? I know, let's make it a polish characteristic! Hurray! :)

Life / What is your favourite comedy (also Polish)? [63]

"Vinci" is not bad, but it also isn't a typical comedy. As for "Pieniadze to nie wszystko", and "Zróbmy sobie wnuka" I despise those films equally to, lets say, all Olaf Lubaszenko's works. :)

I recommend you to watch "Baśń o ludziach stąd"(people form cabaret "Potem" are playing in that film) and "Wszyscy Jesteśmy Chrystusami"(the latest Koterski's work). I think that you won't be disappointed. :)

Love / Rules for dating Polish girls [189]

Its nice to be taken out, but I suppose after a few years in a relationship its only fair that you split the cost (i just forgot to mention that to my ex after 6 years..lol)

I agree that partnership and the whole spliting the cost thing is very important when it comes to relationship and the every day life, but when it comes to dating, flirting, and the more intimate parts of the male/female relations it doesn't work for me.

News / Darwins theory of Evolution in Polish schools [59]

I think this theory doesn't contradict the existence of God at all. It should be taught in schools.

I agree with Markos. The funny part about this whole situation is that even Polish church is of the opinion that this theory doesn't contradict the existence of God.

UK, Ireland / I understand poles coming to uk [196]

Also Pierogies are Russian and are shite compared to the Italian and chinese Equivalents.

If you think that pierogi are Russian than you have to be German. :)

Every nation on earth seems to have Indian, chinese french and Italian restaurants. In the UK there are also Greek turkish and Thai places to eat. But no Polish food despite the legions of poles in the UK.Its becuase Polish food is no good.

So before the first Turkish restaurant was opened in the UK Turkish cousin was awful? Thank you for putting a smile on my face wine bar. :)

What about English restaurants? I never saw one in Poland, Germany, Czech Rep., etc...Does that mean that English food is awful? :)

PS: There are polish restaurants in England, Australia, USA, Germany, etc...Polish delicatessen are becoming more and more popular, not only among polish immigrants, but also among other nationalities. If you don't like it, well that's your opinion. I won't cry about it. :)

Travel / New year ideas in Poznan or Krakow [10]

I'm not sure, but I think that most of them will be closed parties, so you would have to contact the owners and pay in advance if you would like to participate in the party. Still, I bet that they will be a lot of people on the Rynek, and there will be fire works after the midnight, but it's to cold to stay several hours outside, so bringing the party home is a good idea. :)

I think that every restaurant and pub on the Stary Rynek are having a New Years Eve party, and I heard that it's quite cheap.

I would even argue to call "sauerkraut" a dish. You don't eat it only by itself. BTW, I prefer the name kapusta kiszona (kapoosta kishona) or sour cabbage, because just like FISZ said, it's not a German "invention".

What I wasn't aware is that it was originally Chinese. I only knew that it was brought to Poland and the rest of the Eastern Europe by some Asian tribes, probably Mongols, at the beginning of the Middle Ages, and it was used by polish cooks ever since. Interesting. Every day you get to know something new.

They keep trying to convince me that polish food can be good.

Well, you can't please them all. Personally I love Bigos and sour cabbage. Besides, it’s very healthy. :)

Compare it to Hispanic Thai Indian French Malaysian Italian English Chinese Japanease and almost any other country and can you really tell me that there is anything good about Polish food.

Well aside from "plinze" and "ogórkowa" soup I love it all.

PS: This conversation is rather pointless, as everybody has different taste, and one really can't say which one is better or more valuable.

Life / What is your favourite comedy (also Polish)? [63]

I have collection of quite a few polish comedies. When I feel down it is always good to watch one of them. I will have to look for more Koterski's films.Kondrat is quite good too.

Well he isn't a typical comedy director. Aside from "Dzień Świra", "Nic Śmiesznego" and "Porno" he didn't direct more comedies, but still I recommend all his works, as they are really worth watching.
