UK, Ireland / The "Great British Dream" [10]

No YOU miss the point.. I am well aware that you were comparing it to the American dream.. I was merely trying to be humorous... OK, lets all shut the **** up.

UK, Ireland / Getting married to a Polish Citizen in the UK [371]

Hi, I am a polish girl and I want to marry a Pakistani guy. We are both working and staying in UK. He has a valid visa for work (in uk) which finishes early 2009. We r planning to marry in November 2008. I just wanted to ask will he be allowed to stay in Britain as my husband after his visa expires and would he be allowed to work for NHS?
I really dont know whom should I ask this, please please help

Might I suggest you ask the Home Office. To the best of my knowledge he wont neccessarily have the right to remain in the UK just because you got married.. and this would even apply if you were British. Also the fact that you are planning to get married just a few months before his visa expires will look very dodgy. I am no expert though, so I would advise you to contact Immigration for the exact laws on this.. otherwise you could be in for a nasty shock.... the best option would be for him to try and renew his work visa for a few more years.

Life / Do not experiment with Polish medicine if you don't know what it is. [16]

my bathroom cabinet is full of Polish medicine and I dont have a clue what most of it is for, unless there is a picture on the front so I can work it out.. My partner doesnt seem to trust British medication so he comes back from Poland every time stacked with pharmaceuticals. I do think its a bit weird, but hey.. it makes having a headache more interesting. :)

Love / I reckon I've met a right plonker here - your thoughts please [44]

i'm not sure about the woman in germany, but I think actually it was quite brave of him to confess to previous cocaine use.. however, I do wonder whether he is still using it and said that to see what your reaction to drugs is.. could explain why he is acting a bit strange. Anyway, you can do better.. but I would say you could be suffering from low self esteem...which is why you are attracting guys that arent good enough for you.

News / British moved to POLAND on BBC tonight [74]

i liked the fact that they didnt show much of Krakow, because as a main tourist destination there has been lots of media coverage on holiday shows etc.. Of course he had to cover some of the obvious tourist attractions such as the salt mines.. but it was interesting to see other places..overall I think it was a pretty good job and I liked seeing him in the theatre troupe and on Polish TV..yes, its a travel programme, but a lot of people also watch it for the humour.

Love / i love you -why say it if you dont mean it [56]

Tornado. I think you are a tad cynical and if you have never really felt true love then maybe thats why you dont feel the words are of much importance. Remember it is not only the words, but also how you say them..and of course whether your actions back it up. The combination of these 3 things together is powerful

Life / Sending teabags to Poland as a gift [20]

you can get the best of both worlds in most reputable supermarkets these days. They bake it fresh every day and you can put it in that nifty slicing machine

i think this thread needs to die.. and quick.. It was rubbish to start with and reviving it has certainly done nothing to improve the conversation.

UK, Ireland / Meeting Polish girls - where do they hide in London? [60]

why you dont really see polish girls and lads out on the bevy is

actually yes you do in some places, its just that the culture is different to that of the British who often spend a lot of time in pubs. On the whole Polish guys in the UK tend to go to the off-licence and drink in the park cos its cheaper than going to the pub and polish girls go to discos looking for men to buy them drinks... Im not generalising am I? :)

UK, Ireland / Polish Thoughts on Britain and the British [273]

I have arranged for several Polish people to attend them and they were very happy with the course.

sounds like a good initiative.. if anyone knows of free English classes in London that are available in the evenings or weekends I would be happy to hear about it.

Love / i love you -why say it if you dont mean it [56]

In my experience Polish men are very romantic.. my boyfriend was telling me he loved me after a relatively short space of time (in my opinion) and still tells me several times a day.. guys of other nationalities Ive been out with before him have been nowhere near as expressive as this.. so I was of the opinion that it was easier for Polish men to express themselves in this way and wondered, especially in the beginning of a relationship whether they said this to all girls. After reading this, I'm not sure. But anyway, as someone said earlier.. doesnt matter the nationality, guys can lie as well as women can.. and sadly sometimes people do say things they dont mean. Best to look for body language too, but personally I think actions speak a whole lot louder than words anyway.

UK, Ireland / The Little Polish Deli in UK. Running a Polish shop in the UK. [10]

Merged: Does anyone have experience of opening/running a Polish food shop in UK?

I have identified a need for a Polish shop in my local area and was wondering if anyone knows about the logistics of things like transporting foodstuffs from Poland to England etc..

Life / Watches - a no-no in Poland? [34]

i asked my boyfriend about the watch thing, but he said he's never heard of it. So i guess he is either not superstitious or just wants me to buy him a watch :)

USA, Canada / Trying to get my Polish nanny married off -- best clubs in Chicago? [69]

Anyhow, my nanny is still single, but I am asked out to dinner next week :) Only thing is, my amor doesn't speak a word of English, so my nanny has to come along as translator, as well as my five-year-old daughter. LOL! How romantic is that going to be? :)

hey.. good for you. Good luck with the date. I got together with a Polish guy who didnt speak English.. and we are still together after 2 and a half years.. and without the help of a translator either.. so you never know ;)

Life / Wroclaw KFC their shafting us [27]

so I am an expert in their high standards !)

that made me laugh. I did some mystery shopping recently at both KFC and McDonalds.. I quite like KFC but McDonalds make me wanna heave, so it wasnt a pleasant experience.. I even had to inspect the toilets! I like it when countries come up with their own versions of the international chains... ones that I have seen include: Burger Queen, McDavids, McRonalds... and the list goes on... the best name for a fast food outlet that Ive seen is Crap Burger.. and yes, they were.

UK, Ireland / Polish Thoughts on Britain and the British [273]

Migrants are entitled to free language tuition in the U.K so there is no excuse not to learn.

could you be more specific about this? I have heard of a few courses, but running at specific times (usually when people are working) and certainly not in all areas.. so I think this is a bit of a sweeping statement.

Life / I want polish passport [86]

you seem to hate Britain so much that it makes one wonder why you would want to come back here, centrainly not for anything but your own gain. I for one, hope they dont let you back in, I have nothing against decent Pakistani people, but from your own admission you have been actively flouting the law by using false documentation, you have admitted to wanting to buy a fake passport and have made jokes about terrorism, which are in pretty poor taste.

Work / Im thinking about moving to Poland and need advice on teaching english [18]

thanks wroclaw..the main problem is that I work in the charity sector and prior to that all my experience has been public sector, so dont really want to go too corporate.. but may be inevitable I fear. I have some experience of teaching english in multi-nationals, but a while ago, its not exactly my dream job , merely something to do whilst looking for a proper job. I currently work in international development as a Programme Director, so I do have some skills, but obviously cant get work in this field in Poland.. so have to think about how I can best transfer my knowledge to adapt it to another field.. probably something like Management consultancy, change management or project management would be about as close as it gets to what I currently do. My partner has no contacts in Poland, he needs to find a job himself and doesnt know anything about international type jobs.

I will take the above advice and check out some multi-nationals.. not sure if Im going to move or not yet, just trying to work out if I could be better off than living in London, which bleeds you dry.
