Life / HEAT IN POLAND (with no air-condition) [26]

Its really hot compared to the uk climate, Sleeping is nearly impossible will invest in a decent a/c system when I move. To make matters worse I spend most of the day in the car and the A/C compressor packed up the other week, A/c FTW

Work / Moving to Poland in 3 weeks to study! [30]

You should be fine on that, Girls are ok, Slightly orange with a bit of attitude, City centre looks an awful place to live, Avoid Wilda (where i live) Debiec, And Lazarz, Try and find something at Rataje or piont kowo if possible its cheaper, safe and you get more for your cash, I'll ask around about a room to rent and see whats available you should get something for around 400pln, drop me a pm if you need any help when you get here, Oh and 300 pln gets you a fairly good night out, Its awesomely cheap.

Travel / GBP Exchange rate at Polish cash machines? [15]

HSBC take around 2% commission so you will get 2% less than the xe.com rate, Make sure they give you free withdrawals abroad though, I know with HSBC it costs £5 to upgrade for a month to some sort of premier account so is worth it in the long term otherwise its £1.75 per transaction. They will consistantly stop your card though as they suspect fraud, Thats why I had to change.

Travel / Ryanair cancelling flights to Poland at short notice [55]

I paid 293 gbp to fly back last week from Poznań to Stansted, The service is appalling, and These aforementioned priority boarding passes just make thhing entertaining, Why would you pay extra money to get on board a filthy, Poorly airconditioned plane 5 minutes before everyone else? I usually drive back now as its much more comfortable and not any more expensive than booking flights and renting a car at the other end.

I can't see Ryanair lasting that much longer with the current oil prices and the number of pi$$ed off customers.

UK, Ireland / Foreign drivers in the UK escape speeding fines [39]

UK drivers in europe escape speeding fines Ive been flashed several times and heard nothing else about it. It works both ways except cameras in the UK are there to make money rather than save lives.

Life / The Polish Flag Is White, with red tape! [32]

I had a police officer come round to my house after registering with voia voda (spelt wrong I know), I had a nasty hangover from the following day but everything seemed to be ok, Took ages though and lots of waiting.

Are you on UK reg plates WR? If so how do you go about getting an MOT in Poland?

Love / About Personal Problems (English / Polish relationships) [32]

Its probably down to culture differences, Whats acceptable behavior in one country might not be seen as acceptable in another, Most of the problems seem to occur in English-English relationships but nobody really talks about it and maybe by posting on a forum people like to try and find another reason for a relationship failing rather than just incompatibility?

Travel / road trip from Greece to Poland [5]

I've been stopped by police several times in poland and usually a few Marlboro's see's them on their way, Stories of corruption I have found to be unprecedented and the Police are generally very friendly. Car theft isn't a problem although when i left the BMW outside my house I came out one morning to find a door handle missing along with a fog light:) which just amused me slightly. 100 pln to replace. Polish roads are terrible but not really all that bad in all honesty, If you have alloy wheels try to change them for steelies as I keep bending my wheels and often scrape the underside on normal roads. Make sure you have comprehensive insurance to be on the safe side. Roads connecting big cities in my opinion aren't too bad at all but you need to be on the ball at all times as driving standards aren't all that high.

Keep some Octane boost in the car as the fuel here appears low quality too if you run a petrol, 98 octane in reality seems to be around 95 and my car hardly runs on it.

Enjoy the drive.

Travel / Is it safe to take a train in Poland? [35]

Drive! at least you will have air conditioning and decent seats! In my experience Polish trains are dreadful, slow, dirty and generally in poor condition and you really feel like you should have a shower the second you get off! Cheap though and reletively safe but I would still rather drive. First class makes no difference from what I can tell but not sure. Just to add I have never been on a train in any other country so I don't know how they compare.

Life / Good Gym's in Poznań? [23]

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, Can anyone reccomend a good gym in Poznań that isn't full of BMW 316 driving shaven headed weirdo's? I've been to a few and felt quite unsafe, Any in hotels which offer outsiders membership etc?

UK, Ireland / Polish workers found hung in Herefordshire [51]

To be honest I would get pretty depressed working on a strawberry picking farm! It all seems a bit suspect to me 3 people killing themselves in such a short space of time. Was talking only the other week to a guy from Wrolclaw who collects bodies for a living from the UK and brings them to Poland to be buried, He explained that suicides are quite common which is a shame. They could always get home so I can't see that as an excuse, You can get a Ryanair flight for next to nothing, Must be someone trying to keep the there...

RIP

Law / SCAMMED BY Grubarek [8]

This post may as well be written in Mongolian, Characters for sale, Important things in the game? I'm confused does that mean people actually pay money for non physical items which can't be used outside a computer?

This will never happen to me as I have never played a computer game,

Love / What do the Polish guys think about the British girls?? [37]

Theres nothing at all wrong with English Girls, Fair play there are some real monsters but then theres the same situation in Poland albeit not as common but as far as any girls go I find English girls very nice.
