They're just people, like everyone else. Some are smart, some not so much, some are nice, some are arrogant. I'm just glad someone's doing this job, because I wouldn't want to. And I'm glad I have someone to call should I be in trouble.
ain't that the truth.
a career as a police officer strictly from a financial standpoint along with vacation time/comp time/overtime/pay increases/promotions is superior to most private sector jobs unless you're some big shot making 200K a year.
you work 40 hrs a week, are compensated for every minute over 8 hrs that you work, you can retire in 20 years with full benefits and a salary for the rest of your life (yes, that means you could officially retire in your early 40's), any sick days you don't use throughout your entire career are paid out to you in full when you retire including unused vacation time (it's not uncommon for police officers to retire and receive a check for $20,000-$30,000 for unused sickdays and vacation days) not to mention the perks of simply being an officer (free food and drinks nearly everywhere you go when you're on duty, lower car insurance, never having to worry about getting a traffic citation, etc).
so why doesn't everyone apply for this job? in most states, all you need to become a police officer is a high school diploma yet most people wouldn't even consider a career as a police officer due to the risk involved. keep that in mind the next time you watch a YT video of a police officer pulling someone over at 3:00 a.m. for swerving and driving erraticly as you wonder, "why is the police officer acting so paranoid"?
it's the job most people don't want to do because of the risk involved but they'd never dream of moving to a city that didn't have a law enforcement agency to protect them in a time of need.
