Polish winter sucks by any means.

If there is snow- it sucks, if there is no snow is sucks too. It is dark when I leave for work and dark when I come home.

Polish tour guide.
When will I ever learn that it is better to travel on my own? I learnt it again that a day trip to Berlin or anywhere for that matter is way less stressful without some undersexed, frustrated, homophobic, anti German tour guide.

All happy and hopeful when boarding a tour bus a scanned the face of the tour guide. He looked to say the least unhappy. I didn't have to wait long for his happiness to ruin my day trip to Berlin. At 7 am ( when I was still half asleep) he started to bombard the group with the anti German propaganda. My travel company has never heard me swear so much. By the time we reached Berlin we already moved to the back of the bus due to the group attempt to hush up up. The tour guide was similar to Polonius 3 with his views, although I can always stop reading PF if I don't like it. I could not leave the bus in Berlin. Other passengers tried to cope by drinking (on a day trip) or making out at the back of the bus. To make the story short- we left the bus in a hurry and went to the Museum in order to recover hope in human civilization - it was successful, well, until we went back to the bus, where the tour guide continued his lecture about how bad Germans really are.

Well, we are getting our money back for this trip.

x-mas was a typical Polish x-mas : too much food, too much rest and bad TV programs. The highlight was the action of unplugging my father's state of the art vacuum cleaner, during which I found some needles from the x-mas tree from last year.

until later:)

Please elaborate on this tour guide (providing you have the time). Sounds like you could have a field day describing him.....btw, what did you see while in Berlin?

In Poland, where I live and you don't, it is not as easy as living in Canada. It is the little things of which you don't know because you don't live here.

Join the club. I spent four years trying to avoid questions about America while I was living in Poland for this very reason. It pisses people off. What else can you do? Just lie about it?

Polish winter sucks by any means.

Indeed. And it's 6 months long. Half your life in Poland, you walk outside and go, "this sucks".

x-mas was a typical Polish x-mas : too much food, too much rest and bad TV programs.

HAHAHAHA, yes! Couldn't have said it better myself.

So Aphro, when are you moving back to Canada?

And it's 6 months long.

Can you count properly? Look at the weather now, It's 2nd January and it's not winter still. It is unusual, but anyway real winter comes usually sometime in December and lasts till end of March. This is about 3 and a half months...

If there is snow- it sucks, if there is no snow is sucks too. It is dark when I leave for work and dark when I come home.

It seems you are hard to satisfy. And in Summer you complain that it is too sunny and hot, right?
Try Nordics or other European countries and then complain. Do you come from Jamaica? What did you expect in winter? Sun and some +20 C degree?
a.k.

I'm curious what are the "little things", which questioning about you avoided so much.

By mid september you can forget about t-shirts and by october, winter jackets. you will not get relief from this till May and I've seen some cold, crummy May's.

October, November, December, January, February, March, April, May. that's 8. if we cut off half of October and half of May, we've still got 7 and you surely will not be able to cut below 6.

Half a year of shite weather in Poland. Prosze bardzo.

I'm curious what are the "little things", which questioning about you avoided so much.

The best way to satisfy your curiosity would be to come live and work in the USA, Toronto, Vancouver....and then move back to Poland. After a few months of being asked questions about the USA/Canada, you'd understand.

Until then, why would I subject myself again to something I just said I always tried to avoid?

I've worn light jackets until early November and tee-shirts from early April. Not every year, but most. This year seems quite mild.

Maybe you do, but other people enjoy the sunny, wintery days. I like the fact that Poland has proper seasons, that you can go skiing every year without fail in Poland, that you can sunbathe every year without fail - all in all, the weather is pretty decent.

Can you count properly? Look at the weather now, It's 2nd January and it's not winter still. It is unusual, but anyway real winter comes usually sometime in December and lasts till end of March. This is about 3 and a half months...

It's really warm today - up to 8c at one point.

Winter jackets in October?! No way. Perhaps you're just too sensitive to the cold, but my winter jacket didn't get broken out until mid-November this year.

April and May are normally quite warm in Poland. Heck, we were having picnics last year in late April in the sunshine.

Likewise.

I wonder what country he was living in, I really do.

Winter in Poznan always drove me nuts as the temperature seemed to hover around 0C, so when it would snow the snow would melt and make this soupy dirty mess.

Delph, to me the weather was just about the worst aspect of Poland. Besides the fact that I hate cold, there were years when the for the remaining 3 months of summer, it RAINED!

Here is something more my speed, taken couple of days ago, (just to mess with you ;)) :

Same here. The one reason I'm still in the US is the weather. When I was living in Poland I was sick or semi sick from late October to early April.

Winter jackets in October?! No way.

if you're referring to the hours between 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.......it doesn't count.

I wonder what country he was living in, I really do.

Then you must be also wondering what country these people live/lived in as well:

Ah, but the weather in the U.S. can be unpredictable and violent.

I'm fine with unpredictable and violent. It's the low temperatures for an extended amount of time I can't deal with. For example it's very cold here today and tomorrow, but the forecast says 12 C for Saturday. I hate winter in NJ as well, but it's easier to get through.
FUZZYWICKETS 8 | 1,879
4 Jan 2012 #739
yep.

even when winters in NJ are just as cold with just as much snow and just as much ice, it's still simply easier to get through than in Poland.

Even in Canada where the wind chill can reach -45 C it is easier to deal with because the daylight hours are longer there in the winter than in Poland. The sun will still be shining at -20 C. In Poland at around November it gets really grey and dark and dreary and the sun doesn't shine til March.

i have noticed the days are getting longer. just a few weeks ago it was dark when i closed my shop at 4 pm, now it is still light out. i really enjoy the long daylight hours in the summer- particularly on the baltic.
