I hate those Gyros bastards, they've killed good old Wroclaw's Knysza...

what is the KNYSZA?

Did I tell you that I spent some time in Canada and I have never encounter so much rudeness as I did over the years I spent there as I did on one train ride on Polish PKP.

This is mond-blowing to me! In my day (the dark PRL days) civility, decorum and politeness were the orders of the day! Poles had comparitively little then but they did have their PRIDE. I'm returning after a 25-yr absence. I hope I won't be too disappointed.

I guess this the first time I have to agree with southern.Ukrainian broad spent couple of years in Canada and now she is "western".Pathetic broad.

Me too, it's unbelievable how can one be more Canadian then Polish after just 7yrs away from Poland?

Everytime she (aphrodisiac) writes something about Poland her way of writing says she doesn't belong to Poland and she's not even Polish.
Some facts here don't add up. If she was abroad 7yrs then it was the year 2003 whe she left Poland. Still she doesn't remember 90s in Poland? hmmm

Maybe she left as a child and now she's in her teens that'll explain but....she came to Poland and is a teacher now?? Doesn't add up at all. Never mind.

Who are you aphrodisiac? Why you write about Polish people as if you were not one of them? That's wierd. Why you see Polish people only in a bad way?

I live abroad 20yrs and would know what to expect in Poland. It wouldn't be surprise to see dirty train ( maybe some of them but personally I didn't see). It wouldn't be surprise that people are cheating (some of them!) as it happene everywhere, (Canada including) not just in Poland.

It wouldn't surprise me that people are rude (not everyone and not just Poles!) as it happens everywhere.

Like you are not going to play American when you go back to Poland!

Why would I?To impress some dumb broads?I can do it as a Pole as well.See,I don't have any complexes regarding my nationality and I don't feel like I am worse than some American just because he is an American.(In fact I know for sure that I am way better and smarter than a whole bunch of Americans). So answering you,no I am not going to.

Aphro generally displays much different reactions to Poland than a hardcore western aka Aussiestella and if you notice foreigners in Poland do not change at all.

get you health insurance if you are an ex-pat living in Poland

I spend half of my Saturday helping one to get medical attention. He is all set now, but if he was wise enough to get an insurance, he wouldn't need me to translate the doctor's orders.

Where does one get medical attention on Saturday? In the hospital. We were lucky and after driving around the city for a bit, we found an appropriate hospital. It was not well equipped, it was a bit neglected, but the surgeon was quick, professional, knew what he was doing and the poor bugger- a friend of mine left with the cast on his leg.

It all took about 1.5 hour, including the registration, an X-ray, a little procedure, putting on the cast. The surgeon spoke some English and had a great sense of humour. He also managed to serve a couple of other people when we were there. A great Polish doctor, who upon our departure said: Trzymajcie sie.

I had to admit that I was very impressed with the whole "adventure".

Some advice to those who are planning to get sick in Poland:
- have a medical insurance and always carry some cash with you if you don't.
- be patient, you might be surprised that even though some hospitals seem to be disorganized, some people who work there are gems and very professional.

- smile a LOT - it always helps (even if you're in pain)
- don't take anything personally
- if you are friendly, Polish people will go out of their way to help you

Coming up:

I have some minor things to fix in my place and a friend of mine recommended Pan Kaziu. He knows how to fix things around the house, so I will be talking to him today. I have a feeling that Pan Kaziu is a character:).

PS. I understand that some people might get annoyed by my posts, but so what? I am having a lot of fun in Poland and life is good:), but I like to watch people and report back to you:)

annoyed by my posts

Its an open forums, maybe thats why you get positive as well as negative reactions. It is good if you take both sportingly. In life beyond here, you would find no one caring for much.

Canada and Poland are two different countries, and cannot really be compared in every dimensions. Neither would they or we like to change our flags to each others colors either.

Remember that there is nothing general about an aggregate community. You and your neighbors might not only carry different personalities, but live in different sub cultures aswell, which might either take 20% from the country's culture (like food, dress, religion or mood), or 50%, or even 10% ... while the remaining portion for their own subculture (family, community) and perhaps a bigger/larger share to be their own specific individual culture (values).

In such a scenario, to comment on individuals look more appropriate, but to try and figure an entire nation with such sample subjects might never really show the real picture.

Just my opinion.

for now teaching English - what else can I do here. I also was working in that field before I left, so it is quite easy and I like that job most of the time.

I can't believe you were already teacher before you left Poland. Now, after 7 years - what a change, that's disgusting not annoying.
Not to mention your predending not to know a thing about the real life in Poland or about Polish men and the Polish custom of married people. To add, pretending not to know a thing about life in Poland in the 90s. ?

It's not hard to guess what kind of "teacher" you are- that's for sure.

Can you feck off little Miss perfect...

What great contributions to civilization are you making pray tell...? And to Poland for that matter?

In such a scenario, to comment on individuals look more appropriate, but to try and figure an entire nation with such sample subjects might never really show the real picture.

And it seems this idiot Asik has very firm ideas about what everyone should be... which is ironic considering she is a Pole (who still considers herself a Pole) living Downunder.

I think she's a waste of space and should be ignored (though I am having trouble taking my own advice there it seems...)

Aphro, what you contribute to this forum is actually life experience, and a refreshing breaking of the mould of what Poles should or shouldn't be...

Cause it's not actually *Polishness* that drives the Polish mentality... but often, not knowing any different... ignorance. ;)

Goodness knows, attitudes don't change unless the next generation rocks the boat a little. Poles have to accept that they don't always have the *best* ways of approaching things... and actually a combination of methods usually works best.

I think it's generous of you to share these insights...
Don't let the negativity of your compatriots bring you down... then they have won. :)

an Update on Pan "Kaziu"

We just met and he is already drilling some holes in my kitchen. He is a nice man, pleasant, a bit too chatty, which he keeps mentioning. I left him to do his work, so I can report back to you. We set the price, he gave me some some tips as to what would work best. He is one of those good Polish men, who gets his work done and leaves a good impression.

OOPS, he just installed the wine rack upside down;). I better keep an eye on him!!!!!!!!

PS> Lodze the Boat or Boat the Lodz- stop spamming with your patronizing " I am better then you and I will give you an advice, because I am a little patronizing prick, who thinks that his truth will set everybody free"- it is borrrrriiing....Weren't you suspended for spamming?

PSS> Fuzzy- the weather in Szczecin is still lovely. The snow is gone and it has been this way for the last two weeks. It is almost spring, but they say that there is more snow on the way.

PSS> Asik- I agree with Ashely. I just want to add that you should get laid more often - you would be nicer, if that doesn't work, well, I am at loss.

PSSS> Grubas? Who the hell are you?

That made me laugh!

I think it's just a macho cowboyish type thing. I see it in Ireland too in more rural areas. Kind of "man to man" type stance

Weren't you suspended for spamming?

No ... infact it was something I didn't understand till now. Someone was abusing my set of beliefs, without me ever bringing it into the discussion. Yet when I would reply, it was declared off topic. Yet, I did not give up my call from the heart, hence I was suspended for a couple of days. My priority is clear, so I don't think it harmed me or meant anything.

By the way, how many times did I post on your thread? Would you call them spamming? If you wish you may. I said what I felt like, as it is an open forum and "not a blog". But if you are not prepared to take comments which reflect other perspectives (which may not be positive in your favor, and hence might displease you), then I guess you must write in a blog. However, as you wish ... I will not write my stuff.

I don't think I am better than anyone though ... life is a journey towards a higher condition of inner and outer self. Had I been better than everyone in every way, my journey would stop ... and perfection can only be God - nothing else.

In any case ... enjoy your world.

Thanks.

Oh come on....when have you discussed any subject without bringing your religeon into it in some way....??

you have preached and played god on every subject ever discussed on the forum....

maybe i should try mentioning the great lord Satan now and then....

You say someone was abusing your beliefs.... maybe if you kept them to yourself this would not happen , and many more of us could enjoy the threads without your sermons...
Lodz_The_Boat 32 | 1,535
11 Feb 2011 #478
Well, I give my views and those are not sermons. Why do we have to drag this here I don't know ... because I replied to someone else and tried to end it here.

My beliefs meant my RELIGION ... and I didn't bring it up. Yes, I do share my perception on things ... but thats the freedom I practice which makes you say your stuff ... but if that bugs you, you can always use the block button :) ... I won't mind. However, don't expect things to change when its regarding perspectives or beliefs that are not met with logical and meaningful flaws - other than desperate and despicable views on things. I don't remember forcing you to read what I wrote, have I? I just write, if you wish to read you may, or you may just move away and see something else that pleases you. It is better when all kinds of information is available, and all of them need not be of your liking.

Religeon should be a personal thing , just like sexuality..I don,t mind if somebody is gay , but i don,t really want them trying to persuade me into folowing the lifestyle....

If you believe the ways of your cult are the right way , thats fine , but don,t expect the whole world to want to go fondling little boys and nailing virgins to coffee tables , and worshiping potatoes....

Satan is far superior to any potatoe god anyway....

Ah yes the block button...never used it before , but since you mention it..your sh1te will be the first deleted from my life....

Polish Dogs almost everyone. That dog usually makes my day.

I keep reading this over and over about the dogs! What a change from the PRL days. During the time I was in school, 1978-1985, very, very few pets. I always thought Poles were pet-haters. Why do you think this change? Is it a simple case of supply and demand?
