@maf, I also recognised her only from when she was older, but I can't really say what productions I remember her from...

Three of them are connected to that Polish writer.

Two of them are pretty easy to spot, I think, but the third one is more difficult.

The picture is obviously about Lem. Is there something in it about Planet 9?

The ocean from Solaris.

Yes, the writer is Stanisław Lem! So you've guessed the first part of the riddle :) 2021 was declared Stanisław Lem Year by the Polish Parliament, because it's been 100 years since his birth.

Is there something in it about Planet 9?

Nope, but being interested in astronomy should help in spotting the third reference that is the most difficult one :)

The ocean from Solaris.

The ocean is from "Solaris", yes, and the whole mural is inspired by this most famous Lem's novel :) But the references I wrote about aren't connected to his books, but to Lem himself. Each of them symbolise something about him (they aren't as big as the ocean though, so you have to look more closely :)).

The only one I discern is his Jewish origin represented by that Jeiwsh candle holder. The rest is too difficult or too obscure. There is a bottle in the right bottom corner but I am not sure what it means. In times of WW2, he worked as a mechanic which might be rendered by that machinery on the left.

I think two more things about Lem could be suggested by such a mural - that he studied medicine and was born in Lvov.

Yes, exactly! :) The element resembling menorah on that platform on which the smaller astronaut is standing.

There is a bottle in the right bottom corner but I am not sure what it means.

Nope, that's a real bottle ;) - part of the artist's stuff that he used for painting - I simply cropped the photo to get rid of the unnecessary stuff.

OK, so the second reference is the patch on the shoulder of the big astronaut - the Polish flag. It symbolises where Lem lived and created his works - in Poland.

was born in Lvov

Yes! That's the third reference - the most difficult one. Look at the sky...

No, really? buhahahaha It is the best joke played on me in this forum recently. hahahaha Good

the Polish flag

I forgot the mural was made by an Ukrainian guy.... :)

Look at the sky...

Oh, yes, indeed! The stars show the Leo constellation. Lvov is Lion. That was an intricate riddle.

No, really?

Yup ;D

I forgot the mural was made by an Ukrainian guy.... :)

Yup :) An Ukrainian guy painted this mural in Canada :)

Here's an article about it:

The stars show the Leo constellation. Lvov is Lion.

YUP! Awesome, well done! :))

YUP! Awesome,

Unfortunately, not. I wouldn`t have guessed it without your hint. So, it can`t count as awesome. :):)
Now my turn.

We all know what that guy is and where he comes from. But, who was he initially?

Very initially, since the publisher insisted that the backstory be changed before publication, to avoid alienating a particular market ;-)

to avoid alienating a particular market ;-)

Namely Russian coz Jules Verne thought of making a Polish insurgent Captain Nemo who would take revenge on Russians in the seas. Due to the pressure from his French publisher, Verne changed the character into an Indian prince who fights the British.

However, there were allusions to Poland in the book after all - Captain Nemo, when he plays his melancholy tunes on the piano, looks at Kosciuszko image on the wall.

One of Poland's more interesting cathedrals. What's special about it?

What's special about it?

It's not Roman Catholic? Is it in Płock?

I've been to Płock a few times and was fascinated by the Mariawici, once I was taken to the hardcore Mariawici that remained true to the original doctrines of the founder. My hosts (both RC) had nothing but positive things to say about both groups. The city version apparently provide free services for those RC who can't afford RC prices...

I got an idea for another series of riddles: events in history of Poland.
What and where?

Yes! They were looking for oil and found it at last but with such a dramatic effect which lasted for one month exactly.

If we talk about fire....

what and when

Yes! Germans sieged Warsaw for over two weeks and couldn`t conquer it, so they sent hundreds of bombers with incendiary bombs to crush the resistance.

What about this fire?
