Hey, I am of Polish Decent but I was born in Canada, I plan on going to University in Poland after I graduate from Highschool here. I have some questions, first off, what is a good University to study medicine there? I want to go to Krakow but I heard there are good ones in Torun or Warsaw, am I correct? Second, I speak polish and ofcourse read/write somewhat, however do they have courses in Poland where they teach in English? Thanks.

You can study medicine at many Polish Universities, for example Warsaw, Krakow, Poznan, Gdansk, Wroclaw, Bialystok, Lublin etc.

And yes, some of them also have English programs.

You can use Google to get to the websites of the Universities.

If you want to study medicine I recommend Poznan. Here's a link to their webpage: mdprogram.com/

Also, if you have ever played ice hockey you could join our team :)

They say this is the best medical university in Poland

medschool.cm-uj.krakow.pl

I am not objective because I live in Krakow (city where the school is located) and I taught
Polish to a few foreigners who studied there. For sure university in Krakow is one of the oldest in Europe. But there are othe medical school for foreigners.

Here you can find the list: poland.pl/directory/index,Medical_schools,cid,682.htm

If Polisch people are nice? It depends o a person. I am Polish. Sometimes I am nice sometime rude (-:

If we are racists? It depends. But Krakow is quite international, many people from India work here in IT.
You have to ask other foreigners who live in Poland, perhaps they will help you better.

are there racist ppl in poland also?

There is some racism in Poland. Mostly because people are not used to other nationalities, especially non-European people. Generally people experience more racism in small cities than big cities. But we should remember that there are racists in all countries of the world.

Everyone has different opinions about which universities are the best. But I think the differences in quality are not so big.
Universities in cities with a more international atmosphere are Warsaw, Wroclaw, Poznan and Krakow.

If you don't speak Polish to a near-native level, it is incredibly unlikely that you will fufil the Polish language requirements for medicine.

Do you have to take Latin?
Years ago it was compulsory for Poles, unless, in some cases, they took Latin in a secondary level school.

There's a School of Medicine in Olsztyn, Poland. I bet studying there's an attractive choice, due to modern equipent available for students, cooperation with the university hospital, possibilities to take part in experiments (e.g. there's a newly built stem cell laboratory), professional tutors. Finally the beautiful University campus offers a good environment for studying and also a leisure.

is polish degree accepted worldwide?

You will need to check to see which country you want to work in once qualified. many non Poles study medicine in English in Polish medical universities, the going rate is about 9000 euros per year in course fees.

there is a certain amount of jealousy from Polish students studying medicine but this usually revolves around foreign students being given the freshest corpses during pathology

because you are Indian, you may still have to take PLAB before practicing medicine in the UK. again, you are better off checking this before starting the course

good luck

Studying Medicine in Poland

I am applying to four schools in Poland to study medicine, they are in Olsztyn, Bialystok, Szczecin and Warsaw. I was wondering if anyone has any information about the quality of these Universities, and if you or someone you know has attended the school and in that case what did they/you think of it.

Also, as I am of mixed race (half african half european) will i be met by any racism at any of these locations, or is it mostly just benevolent curiosity? Or are these cities maybe quite used to people that are not white, so to speak.

Thanks for all your help and I am really excited about coming to Poland, seems like a really nice place!

There's a School of Medicine in Olsztyn, Poland.

Olsztyn also has great experience of foreign students. The medical school is about to start teaching a large number of saudi Arabians and has an English language teaching section (to study medicine in English)

if you want to have a really good overview of all medical in schools (how they compare to each other on different characteristics that are relevant for you, how studying looks like there from students' perspective), check out this website: studymedpoland.se

the site can save you from making bad decisions by relying on dishonest information from representatives of Polish universities abroad which have a clear interesting in bringing you over to Poland. the site can help you decide whether studying in Poland is a good idea at all in your case?

good luck
