Next to Budapest, Prague aka Praha, is the third most strikingly beautiful city on the Continent, perhaps only behind Paris or Barcelona.
The city square is breathtaking, as was my view of the Charles Bridge from our hotel. That was in the late '90's, and so I'd imagine more ordinary folks know English. When we were there, my Viennese girl friend at the time and I found nobody except for much, much older people, who even admitted to knowing either German or English. Knowing Polish was a partial help, but my Czech was practically non-existentLOL

True but living in Prague sucked after a while - too crowded and packed with tourists. Great to visit not so great to live with so much pollution, urban heat island effect in summer, and too many crowds.

It's much easier to become known in a smaller city or town. And people there are usually friendlier. Most expats go to the larger cities though... and do jobs as English teachers or call center employees that are underpaid considering the huge rents.

No offence but being THE English teacher in a tiny town >> being the nth English teacher in Prague or Warsaw. Let's get real - most ppl don't strike it big/rich in big cities. With the pollution and crowds it's not worth it in the end when your teaching salary would help you afford mlre things in a smaller city ot town. I enjoyed smaller (but uglier than Prague) Bratislava more as it was less rushed and crowded and I ran into friends more there. I also saved more money there on the same salary (both multinationals) despite eating out much more, paid trips/excursions etc. In Prague I only ate at home and still saved less.

I'd rather chose Plzeň (Pilsen), Stříbro, Domažlice or Klatovy - all much closer to Bavaria.

Klatovy must be the most beautiful town in the world of its size (population of around 23 000).

Prague's only the crown jewel but Czech have many small gems. It's alao overran with American expats and tourists so as a local it gets annoying too fast. Pragues lile Rome or Athens - great to visit, bad to live.
