Has anyone already bought an ugly sweater for Christmas?

No. I bought myself a beautiful sweater with an ugly monkey image.

This can be worn all year round.

Galeria Karstadt is insolvent again, for the third time. It's a pity because the assortment of goods has recently improved, including shoes.

Do you sell shoes?

Why do you love shoes so much?
OP Alien 20 | 5,089

Do you

No, I neither love shoes nor sell them, but this is a thread about shoes. You know, good Goodyear welted shoes are like good old French champagne. In fact, no one needs both, but everyone would like to have them.

I don't think very much about shoes, except like Forrest Gump - about the places they must have taken their owners.

about the places they must have taken their owners.

Regardless of where we go, we put about PLN 3.5 million steps per year in our shoes, that's quite a lot.

steps per year in our shoes

I saw a guy wearing built up shoes yesterday. The kind that Putler and trumpet wear in order to look taller. Normally, I'd not notice what shoes someone was wearing however this guy's whole outfit was very smart and obviously new. I'd say that the shoes gave him an extra two or three inches.

I know a French company that makes such shoes, it's called Mephisto.

PLN 3.5 million steps

Of course, 3.5 million steps, not PLN.

I still can't get used to the fact that you can wear sneakers with a suit. That's why I wear leather shoes, preferably black.

Only if you're French, Italian or at a pinch, Spanish.

That's why I wear leather shoes, preferably black.

Same here. Always matt leather for me rather than shiny; it's a sort of style trademark.

absolutely, shiny leather shoes only for a tuxedo, but a tuxedo is worn several times in a lifetime.

Who wears tuxedo's these days?

tuxedo

Dinner jackets? Still worn for quite a few things in the U.K.. As I remember, you're a Londoner which is probably different however in the 'gin and jaguar' belts of northern cities (even more in smaller affluent towns) they're still part of an affluent man's wardrobe.

Just buy a copy of Yorkshire Life, Cheshire Life, L*nca*shire Life, Lincolnshire Life, whatever, and the society' pages will be full of photos of local worthies wearing them.

gin and jaguar' belts

Interesting term, are there also 'cognac and Bentley' or 'champagne and Rolls' belts? Or 'beer and a Dacia' belts?

cognac and Bentley

Not really though you could talk about Prosecco and Ford housing estates.

The gin and jaguar belt in a large town is the suburb near the best golf course where most houses have electric gates. People there don't clean their own houses. Lawyers and dentists live there. The women all have similar hairdos and the men are a level too classy to talk about material things. It's a slightly old-fashioned term and the people there are less likely to drive a jag or drink gin (marketing and 'craft' gin have sent it downmarket) than they were in 1985.

whiskey and range rover?

That's basically northern Scotland or North Yorkshire or Northumberland however they'd spell it in both places without the E.

beer and a Dacia

White Lightening 'cider', weed and the bus.

White Lightening 'cider

What about beer? I thought it was the UK's most favorite alcoholic drink.

What about beer

We do make excellent beer (and the world's best cider too) however white lightening (or diamond white or various similar names) is a product sold by corner shops in plastic bottles for alkies.

White Lightening 'cider',

1. It's ain't "white". It's clear. Milk is white.
2. Judging by Brits' teeth, it's not working. Switch to water.

Whinge to the manufacturer about the name they chose, instead of making a fool of yourself here.

Whinge to the manufacturer about the name they chose,

They should be charged with false advertising. Just like the guys who claim to be "women" to commit fraud on the real women.

false advertising

So should you. You may well be poison however you aren't a Soviet nerve agent.

And anyway, they don't advertise.

This is not true, it was Nike that just became the sponsor of German football, not Adidas as before. Interesting and also applies to shoes.

found it very interesting

It is also interesting because Afidas is a German company and Nike is an American company. Needless to say, football is the national sport in Germany.
