9mm are now 30 cents. How much are reloads?
To reload you have to first punch out the old primes, then resize the brass, then buy sand to put in a tumbler to clean and polish the old brass, then you have to seat in the new primer with a die.
I buy by primers by the thousands, then buy a good non- corrosive powder and fill the brass with the correct amount and then using a seating and crimping die you seat the bullet to an exact depth into the brass case.
If it is not seated deep enough (by a .01) the cartridge will not chamber and may cause your gun to jam.
By the time you figure your expenses, not including your time)......plus the costs for a tumbler and dies and material........it will be around .24 cents a round for 9mm.
The only advantage is after you reload a couple thousand rounds.....you will be able to produce better ammo that is more accurate than what you can buy over the counter commercially.
When I go to the range everyone looks at me because when they shoot their 9's it is, bang, bang, bang and when I shoot mine it is TWICE a loud because I hop mine up a tad.
The one I have a hard time finding stuff for to reload is for my 41 Remington Magnum handgun which is over $2 a round commercially.
I think it would be an excellent hobby for you, Rich, as it is very time consuming and detailed.
