Notice that 62% of dems think government isn't doing a good job on Southern border.
I once read somewhere, that "America beckons, but Americans repel." In other words, Americans have always been somewhat ambivalent about one of the defining features of the country.
Your feeling that "it's never been this bad", is accurate within your lifetime, but not accurate in a wider historical context. I'm attaching a chart below, which shows both the number of immigrants, and what percentage of the overall population they constitute.
You can see, that the reason you, Novi, and most other voting-age people are upset is because the changes within your lifetime have been truly dramatic. You were essentially growing up during the lowest ebb in US immigration history. In the 70s the percentage was still around 5%, and now it's closer to 15% - a tripling.
The reason things took off like a rocket ship in the 1980s, were mainly the removal of restrictions on Asian immigration, and reforms to immigration law that made it easier for families to reunite. There was not a commensurate liberalization of work-based immigration, which has stayed tight over the last thirty years.
The last time there was this many immigrants, was in the early 1900s. Then, people would literally gather in downtown Manhattan to pelt immigrants with garbage, or greet them with a nice punch to the face. Italians, Poles, Jews, and Greeks were viewed as little better than dogs. Now the Italians, Jews, and Greeks run this town. Haha! So maybe those concerns were not exaggerated, hehehehe. I suppose for contemporary Americans, that means Indians and Chinese will run this country one day.
