WARSAW, Sept 1 (Reuters) - Poland estimates its World War Two losses caused by Germany at 6.2 trillion zlotys ($1.32 trillion), the leader of the country's ruling nationalists said on Thursday, and he said Warsaw would officially demand reparations.

Yes, Germany flooding PiS with trillions - I can totally see it happening. *rolls eyes*

And now we know the strategy for elections, and for obtaining the recovery money. Every EU item will now be vetoed.

At least there is a number. Let see if there is anything else behind it.
I mean I don't doubt that number I would say that it is even cheap. I doubt that PiS has made all those claims professionally prepared.

PiS must be a long-running KGB/FSB operation. There's no other explanation that would make quite as much sense. Really, these guys are an amazing gift to Russian foreign policy.

After the start of the war, when Poland and Hungary began to diverge over the question of sanctions and refugees, I started getting worried. I thought, "sh!t... Poland may be adopting a more mainstream position, which may potentially leave the Hungarians as the only wrecking ball inside the EU, that we can rely on for our games of divide and conquer." Thankfully, my fears were misplaced. Poland was simply taking a time out, and is now back to reclaim its leading role as a time bomb under the EU.

Bravo!

In order to get any reparations, Poland will have to give up the recovered lands. Was that what PiS wants to achive.

I would say that it is even cheap.

$1.3 trillion does seem a low number. That's about $200,000 for a killed citizen, isn't it? What about Warsaw - the whole city razed? Army torn to pieces. Other cities, towns and villages burnt to the ground, infrastructure destroyed, population used as slave labour for farming in Germany etc. etc.

I am not saying they are going to get even a dime, but $1 trillion sounds more like reparations for the razing of Warsaw, not for the entire WW2 losses.

these guys are an amazing gift to Russian foreign policy.

That's what I have been saying - with all their operetta-style Russophobia, they are actually playing into Putin's hands.

lol! Your interest and German interest in regard to Poland are pretty close. German policy toward Poland is a great gift for Russia.
Wow, that was well done - sowing discord and disinformation in a casual way.
Don't you think its rather obvious?

Maybe not after all we have slow posters here.

At least its one that's so ridiculous every satirist and comedian in the country will go to town on it.

How much is Russia going to pay in the future for the damages inflicted on Ukraine?

Nothing. There is an embargo on money transfers from Russia to Ukraine.

Be happy Germany acts as a magnet. Without that magnet, the scum just might choose Poland.

Ohhhh... Germany will simply love this line of conversation!

Probably about as much as white people in the United States are pleased, when African Americans begin to talk about reparations for slavery.

Germany has the money they are spending it on third world scum, there's no need to pay all at once, can make a payment plan, say 100 billion a year

What strikes me about this.. is the sheer political incompetence.

PiS is screwing up and people want leadership on important issues (Odra, energy, inflation...) and all PiS can think of is to try to strong arm another country so they can be in charge of handouts....

It stinks of desperation and intellectual and political bankruptcy....

Is it my imagination or is the electorate getting as sick of PiS as they were of PO in 2015? Cause if they're not, they should be...

Well surely Russia (as legal successor to the USSR) should also pay us reparations

Come on Nazi murderers - get your hands on your pockets and give us some of your worthless rubles

Ho-ho-ho-ho! I see now where Ukrainians got their habit of "demanding" money. It's that Polish influence showing itself again. You really have everything figured out... A trillion from Germany, a trillion from Russia - and suddenly Poland is the richest country in Europe.

We paid you reparations when we cut off a large percentage of Germany and gifted it to you. Incidentally, this is the economic engine of your country - a gift that just keeps on giving! If you have complaints about the Kresy, please feel free to address these concerns with Zelensky and Lukashenko.

@Bobko, not really, because you also took lands that belonged to Poland and our factories (literally, physically - you dismantled them and transported them in parts to the Soviet Union) and people for forced labour.

If you have complaints about the Kresy, please feel free to address these concerns with Zelensky and Lukashenko.

It wasn't Zelensky and Lukashenko that took those lands from Poland, but Stalin/the Soviet Union.

and all PiS can think of is to try to strong arm another country so they can be in charge of handouts...

What can I say... PiS are incompetent morons.

lol! Everyone wants to take a credit for it. Join a line and fill a form.

and suddenly Poland is the richest country in Europe.

As it should be, that is a natural order of things but same upstards that do not know any better started acting out and messed it up for everyone. Stupid a-holes - Moscow and Prussia.

Pay up means compensation money and you should be grateful we don't ask for more.

If Zelensky and Lukashenko are the ones that benefit from it, why the hell is it Russia that is supposed to pay for their pleasure? I understand Russia always has to pay, for everything and to everyone - but this defies the laws of reason.

Everyone wants to take a credit for it. Join a line and fill a form.

With all due respect to our German partners, this was a "forced" gift on their part. Russia was the country that did the "forcing". Nevertheless, the Germans later did their part too, by withdrawing their claims on these lands in exchange for a general settlement. So... we both gifted it to you. Enjoy!

That's asinine....that will go nowhere and everybody and their grandmom knows that....can we please end it here?

...Germany, on the other hand, sees no basis for Polish claims for reparations. "The position of the federal government is unchanged. The question of reparations is closed," said a spokesman for the Foreign Office on Thursday in Berlin. Poland had already waived further reparations in 1953 and confirmed this waiver several times. »This is an essential basis for the current order in Europe. Politically and morally, Germany stands by its responsibility for the Second World War," the spokesman continued.

This waiving is one of the foundations of the European Union....or otherwise that just wouldn't work. Every country could start going for old grudges and borders...

sheer political incompetence.

It stinks of desperation and intellectual and political bankruptcy....

When PiS pull stupid stunts like this one (and it's not the first time they've done it), it begs the question: "what don't they want people to talk about right now instead of talking and/or laughing about this?"

In PR terminology, it's called "throwing a dead cat".

Is it my imagination or is the electorate getting as sick of PiS

To say the least.

but we must let this drama play itself out

....again! *sighs* (That isn't the first time)

One could expect a Union to stand together in times of crisis....or not!

....but maybe that is the payback for Germany's now quite stupid hanging on that "Wandel durch Handel" idea?
Novichok  5 | 7616

...when the WW2 participants and their kids die off.
I hope that Germany is no longer playing the reparations games. If you decide to be stupid, deduct what you gave to and invested in Poland - to start with.

As a side point, never apologize for Germany First as a policy about gas, oil, or anything that burns from Russia.
Bratwurst Boy  8 | 11756

If you decide to be stupid,...

....no, this whole question has been closed for good!

If Germany would give in that would open a whole can of international worms which would destroy the EU and in the end the peace.
mafketis  38 | 10937

In PR terminology, it's called "throwing a dead cat".

Or "smokescreen".... PiS hasn't exactly been covering itself in glory lately so time to distract the base with an oldie but a goodie...

my prediction: this will go nowhere (but only after lowering Poland's international prestige...)

...again! *sighs* (That isn't the first time)

God has blessed us with such neighbors... What can you do? Together we tried to partition them a few times, as a potential solution, but they have an uncanny ability of reconstituting themselves. Each time they come back as an even more annoying version of their former selves. So, best to just leave them to their dramas.
