Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy.

Harry
18 Dec 2015 #241
Yes, of course I can!

Please do so; I'd like to join protests supporting a law requiring Polish citizens to be only Polish citizens. Hopefully those demonstrations won't be at the same times as the demonstrations in defence of democracy here that I'm also committed to going to.

maybe start your own group back in South Africa.

Sorry, son, but my African citizenship isn't South African and I can't go back to that country.

However, what I can and will do is carry on working to make sure that Poland is the best country it can be. You're more than welcome to join us in our efforts.

anti-government

If it's a choice between supporting a Polish government that is acting illegally or defending the rule of law and the constitution in Poland, I know which side I'm on.
OP delphiandomine 88 | 18,131
18 Dec 2015 #245
Likewise. Supporting a government that openly refuses to comply with the law is unthinkable.

It's worth pointing out that both decisions of the Constitutional Tribunal have been published now, yet Duda continues to break the law. That's exactly why we will be out on the streets tomorrow.

Katowice : Urząd Wojewódzki in Katowice.

Expecting a big crowd in Katowice tomorrow. Pretty much all of my Polish friends are going, ages ranging from 22-65. There's about 20 of us meeting there. Looking forward to it. Met some of them today for lunch and they were almost frothing at the mouth of what that dingbat Macierewicz did last night. I'm looking forward to seeing the NATO and Slovak response in the coming days.

Any normal country and he'd be fired by his PM straight away. But....well.....y'know XD

You don't have to wait anymore. The response was already released.

The response was already released.

Thanks for being so helpful and post it :)

Slovaks

"The Slovak side is following the situation in Poland very closely."

In other words.....we're waiting, but by Jebus, we're Pi$sed off.

There hasn't really been anything from NATO. So we'll wait and see. Maybe they'll pull out of the event Warsaw was due to hold during the summer.

General opinion seems to be that NATO will simply go very cool on Poland.

Yet more reason why we need to be out there tomorrow.

there are over 20 separate demonstrations

We can see you're revving up for a nice punch-up. Dont' forget the Molotovs!
Maybe you'll finally get to see the blood in the streets you're so looking forward to. If so, your firebrand rhetoric will have contributed to that state of affairs, Adrenalin forever! And say "hi" to Petru when you climb up to the roof of the bus.

People who acquire dual citizenship at birth are unique in that each government treats them as exclusively their own citizens. It is a bit different when one chooses to become naturalized and accepts a new citizenship. Since it is not always possible to serve two sovereigns, the new sovereign typically demands a renunciation of sovereignty to the first. Since it was a choice, not a birthright, there is nothing "democratic" about a right to collect as many citizenships, passports, and election ballots as possible. In fact in the modern E.U. it is actually very undemocratic to allow some people to vote in multiple national elections. Stalin would appreciated that very well, since he remarked that a person who votes decides nothing, but those who count the votes decide everything. As long as the E.U. persists in creating an elitist transnational group of citizens with superior "human rights" to the ordinary national citizen, there is nothing egalitarian about it, let alone "democratic".

If you foreigners are really so dissatisfied with democracy in action in Poland, please go to these demonstrations abroad, don't return and don't the door hit you in the dupa on the way out.

Pa pa!

I'd like to join protests supporting a law requiring Polish citizens to be only Polish citizens.

Who said anything aborat protests? That is for your foreigners in Poland.

Sorry, son, but my African citizenship isn't South African and I can't go back to that country.

Do you have a warrant out for your arrest there, or do the locals no longer approve of their former colonial masters?

All sounds a bit undemocratic to start stripping peoples country, history /nationality from them, oh hang on that's what Stalin did to my parents.

Considering what Stalin did to both citizens of the Second Polish Republic, and ethnic Poles and Catholics across the border, Poland's obligation is to repatriate them, not grant citizenship to a bunch of Brits here for the cheap beer, and certainly not potential terrorists. There is nothing "right wing" or authoritarian about Poland taking care of its national interests and favoring ethnic Poles over foreigners who don't want to assimilate with Polish culture, insult its history, etc.

Demonstrations

Saturday's protest rally in Warsaw looked quite pathetic. Holland complained about living in poltical smog due to the curtailment of democracy. That was ridiculous because the demo went ahead undistrubed.

Kijowski a relative nobody got his big chance to become an overnight celebrity and is now calling for anti-govt committees to rise up all over. PiS-bashers of the country unite!

Following in the footsteps of his Cominterm* daddy, Michnik is also engaging in his own form of subversive activity by whipping up unimaginably vicious hatred towards the democratically elected government.

Across his front page he splashed the bombastic headline: MACIEREWICZ ATTACKS NATO. Seeing imminetn defeat PO not only hastily appointed judges to the TK to retain their monopoly but also stuffed a newly created NATO research unit with their own cronies. The new defence ministry simply wanted to replace the PO-oldboy staff. And NATO officially stated that was an internal Polish matter. But to Michnikite propagandists, if the truth is lacking, so much the worse for the truth.

*Stalin's international organisation which operated subversive cells in countries round the globe.
jon357 74 | 22,060
19 Dec 2015 #269
The only thing that's pathetic here is your blustering attempt to defend the indefensible.

Meanwhile the pro-democracy rallies continue. What surprised me is the number of people here today who would never normally come out on the streets to protest against anything. Doctors, lawyers, teachers, scientists, retired people - all normally conservative in outlook and all united in a common cause

And all you can do is rant about Stalin. To use your own term, "pathetic"

KOD demonstrations

Why don't the KODites finally fess up and tell it like it is. PiS are not threatening democracy but working to ensure that the benefits of economic progress are shared more evenly. That is preceisly what the pro-bankters lobbyists wish to prevent. Their stranglehold over the Polish economy is sacred and cannot be questioned.

The government are not eurosceptical but eurorealistic. Like Britain, Poland support the EU as a confederation of sovereign states, not organisational units of the eurocratic Brussels Behemoth.
