Are Poles bigots and xenophobes?

Not any more or less than other countries.

That was easy :)

I would just like to point out that I enjoy your posts and think you are a good member and really bring something to these forums, thanks.

Thanks but you are Polish and have really brought something to all us foreigners giving an "outsider's" point of view.
And your fun and clever, this isn't a chat up line now, so come on :)

Teffle, please, you're making me blush.
You have also brought a lot to these forums and Trevek.
I always enjoy reading your posts!
I just think sometimes good people on here, especially relatively new members, don't get the appreciation they deserve.

*waits*

relatively new members

You waited too long :p

The longer time members know that they are liked or not, don't they? but skysoulmate and the other newer members might not know that they are of value to these forums.

Delphian how do you feel about turning into a "polish bigot"? It must be an extraordinary feeling for you ;DDD

I can't win, can I? :D

I can't stand such lazy, ignorant criticism of Poland by someone who clearly has never been here. All this talk about "hate" - where is it? It's not the Poland I live n!

The American view of Poland is so distorted that it's not even funny. I thought Brits were bad for accusing Poles of eating swans and so on, but...jeez.

as long as we all remember that the (insert country) view of America is just as distorted.

Without a doubt. :)

Fuzzy, what's the worst stereotype you've heard in Poland about America?

(hey, speaking of this - apparently an American diner is opening here - and it's allegedly authentic. I have my doubts....)

That their education system sucks and they are really terribly lacking of knowledge in some areas. But it is untrue... I mean every country has its ignorants and erudits and great problems in education system right now. I suppose that many Poles (especially young) can shock with their lack of basic knowledge either.

That their education system sucks

Jeez, this is something that I cannot understand. I'd kill to have the American university system in Europe - it's so well set up for all aspects of society and yet produces incredibly top notch graduates. The really nice thing about the American system is the way that it allows people to choose exactly what they want and where - really, their university system is miles ahead of the EU.

I bet Fuzzy will be along in a second to tell me about what interesting classes he took in university, just to make me jealous :(

University, granted - I think all except total idiots realise that the US has top colleges but I think the cliché of bad education in the US relates more to secondary school.

what exactly do you know about Texas that makes you so condescending? i think my point is proven, that Poles think they're better than everyone else, for no good reason.

Delphi hates Americans and anything American. He even hates Polish-Americans.

Particularly people who seem to follow very rigid criteria on who is and who isn't Polish.

Oh hello, it seems like you've discovered the British;)

delphiandomine

this statement about terrible education system goes only for pre-university education (elementary school, junior and senior high school) and additionally only for non-private schools. The Poles are mostly aware of great prestige of American universities and are aware of outdated Polish unis' way of teaching (which really sucks).

There seems to be the same problem in the USA as in the UK - good schools are good, bad schools are truly awful, and then there's everything else in the middle where it all depends on the student. Given some of the ignorant comments I've heard from Brits about Poland, really, Americans are no worse.

and are aware of outdated Polish unis' way of teaching (which really sucks

Polish education needs such wholescale reform. I'm still shocked that school directors aren't "professional", but rather elected.

The worst thing is that most ordinary teachers are of a very decent standard, but the management is just unbelievably sucky in general.

Yes and that's my point - every country has such problem including Poland. There are some schools which are real buttheads incubators...

in Poland we look on this completely contrary - it is better if a principle is a former teacher as he knows the best the problems of a school. "Professionals" are those in Ministry of Education who creates the irrational school programs.

The main problem of polish schools is that in the elementary and secondary education there is no way of descipling pupils. You can't expell from gimnazjum for misbehave. You can't even suspend such person!

where do i begin. well, here's a funny one: just last week, i was talking to a pole, 50 years old, and she was surprised to hear that you can buy hamburgers in america from places other than McDonald's. i $hit you not.

Zetigrek wrote:

"Americans don't know their geography" is most certainly my favorite one. not because it's untrue, but because if I were to show the avg pole a map of the states, AT BEST they could point out California, NYC, Florida and Texas.

Delph wrote:

here's the beauty of the american system....you get what you pay for. if you want a college degree, pay for it. this way, when you're in class or studying for an exam, you remember that if you waste your time in college, you're wasting your own money. money = motivation. also, when you graduate in america with a college degree, you have plenty of options for work and if you work hard, you'll be successful. i don't have a single close friend or family member with anything above a bachelor's degree and they are all very successful in business, living comfortable lives. go to school, pay your way, and then go make money.

also, and now i'm resurrecting an old argument of mine, it makes a huge difference when you start working when you're a teenager, which nearly every american does. when a 22-23 year old american finishes college and applies for a job, that person has already been working for several years (and in many cases, had to work to put themselves through college) so when they start their first job fresh out of college, they hit the ground running. this aspect of america is not directly part of the educational system per say (you won't find it in a college syllabus) but it most certainly is an integral part of the work education experience. you learn how to work by working.

as for the poles, most of them don't even know what it is to hold a steady job or have to answer to a boss till they are already in their mid 20's. imagine, 25 years old and still hasn't had to work for anything he or she has gotten.

america may produce some nitwits but most of us sure know how to put our heads down and make money to support ourselves. it's part of our culture and a big reason for our success.

American media itself is largely to blame I think, particularly TV.

More so than most nations, it seems to pander to the lowest common denominator re programming/chat shows etc and to Europeans, appears to be infested with frequent zombie consumerism, none too subtle adverts.

It gives quite a bad and mostly unfair impression - until we see the general quality that HBO has to offer and then all is forgiven : )

so when they start their first job fresh out of college, they hit the ground running.

I think no one dare to argue with that. Many Poles also work during their college but mostly as a waitress, hostess, shop assistants... nothing connected with their faculty or seriouse job which gives needed experience.

'Many' you ask? I mean you noticed some chinese etc. About average for a modern city.

It's a good thing to have other cultures and races. You guys signed up to the EU so when your economy improves you can't keep foreigners out who will come looking for work. Poland is in a worse off position than Ireland in that immigrants can simply drive to poland but with Ireland they must at least get a boat or plane.

It's only a matter of time.. Poland has constantly been mixing with other races through history so there is no definite 'Polish ' race. They are quite similar to other Russian.. no I mean eastern european peoples

really? Poland is over 98% polish, and 99.99% white. are those numbers comparable to Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, Munich, Barcelona, London, NYC, San Fransisco...........?

saying that the ethnic diversity in Poland is avg. in comparison to modern cities is laughable, man.

Typical eastern european. You infest other countries yet cannot deal with enevitable immiigration into your own country. Is it because Poland and other soviet backwaters have nothing to be proud of apart from the fact that they are mostly white?

Throughout history you were easily invaded numerous times. In WWII your army used horses against the german tanks.... how humiliating! lol!
Just don't come to my country acting like your better than anyone when you have no right. I'm sick of polacks and lithuanains coming here. At start it was ok but my town is full of them. We just call you all the 'Russians' becuase you sound and look russian.

it's a nazi propaganda:

Is it because Poland and other soviet backwaters have nothing to be proud of apart from the fact that they are mostly white?

Why do you think so?

Throughout history you were easily invaded numerous times.

bollox. Better watch your words.

Just don't come to my country acting like your better than anyone when you have no right.

You seemed to be a nice person at first. What has happened?

I'm sick of polacks and lithuanains coming here.

You've just written that Poles are rather ok (contrary to Lithuanians) in your previouse post.

We just call you all the 'Russians' becuase you sound and look russian.

So?

some poles are ok. But if you lived in Ireland it would break your heart. The local papers are full of foreigners breaking the law and overloading our health, welfare, housing and education systems

Just curious... how can you people afford BMW cars and fancy clothes yet you 'need' to come to Ireland and have 6 children. If Poland was being overrun by immigrans you'd be the same.

Sort out your own country... we have n't even got Ireland back for ourselves completely (the north) so we don't want to give it away to foreigners. It's about moderation. I like beer... I don't drink it everyday or I'd get sick. I like Polish in moderation.. but when they overrun your country it makes your country sick.

40 million people in poland
<6 million in Ireland
Yet half of poland comes to Ireland.? and poland is so proud? I think not
Good bye...
I just registered to give you all a piece of my mind.

Wasn't the British accusing Irish of the same things when they were massively imigrating looking for job in other countries?

6 children.

6 children??? wow. I doubt that many Polish can have 6 children. We polish women don't like to look after too many kids.

how can you people afford BMW cars

BMW??? hahah. You must be kidding!

fancy clothes

what do you consider as fancy clothes?

I like Polish in moderation.. but when they overrun your country it makes your country sick.

That's ok but crying about it on some forum won't change it. Note also that slamming innocent people won't make you any friends...

It's not a forum for polish people. It's a forum for expats living in Poland or people which are bonded with Poles in some other way. Here is just few polish people. So why you are making here a bad face for Irish people? It won't change the world, the only thing you'll achieve here will be a bad impression of your fellow countrymen.

some poles are ok.

Why do you allow unchecked immigration into your country?

If Poland was being overrun by immigrans you'd be the same.

They would probably curb immigration. EU law doesn't allow for people the freedom the live in a country without being able to support themselves. Ireland was one of the loudest noisemakers when France deported their gypsies for the exact same reason you mentioned.

Anyway, what your describing sounds a lot like the complaints about immigrants in my country. Violent, leeching off the system, alcoholics, stealing jobs, escaping poverty, no culture to speak off, economically deprived, third worlders, without a remarkable history... Granted "my" country is the US and the immigrants were the Irish, but I'm sure that's a moot point. It happens anytime you have immigration in large numbers.

You probably won't need to wait long for Poles to go home, as the Irish economy continues its free-fall, Poles will move back home. There are more and more jobs being created in Poland every month. Did you hear that Dell built a huge new manufacturing plant in Lodz? It's funny how EU money was first used to bring Dell to Ireland, and now it's used to bring them to Lodz.

Like I said, it's just a matter of time, most will go home. Some will become Irish. Way of the world.

I've written letters to politicians . This was n't my first port of call
No politician will tackle the issue as all Irish politicians are like little girls and are afraid of being labelled 'xenophobic' by the ultra left wing media. The result is we have total unchecked immigration.

Come to Ireland and see... it's a joke. Love my country just like you love yours but it's gone to the dogs with uncontrolled immigration. Not anti -immigration. Just very anti mass-immigration.

Does n't solve anything. There will still be economic problems in poland or wherever and it spoils Ireland. In my hometown you see less Irish than immigrants.

I will not apologise for my beliefs. I 'm not racist or anti immigrant. I just feel the situation has got out of control and it angers me that you people then turn around and complain about immigration into your own country.
